  1. I've owned and worked running dogs for almost 45 years; I've ran dogs all over the world, on a bewildering array of quarry; but I've NEVER had anyone tell me a RUNNING DOG is "to fast" !!! O.K., a Greyhound or Non Ped Whippet will run itself into injuries, but that is because they are usualy track dogs, let loose once in a while to run live quarry. I'm a Saluki fan, but to see them on the fens, doing 2-3 minute courses, (which is actualy a long time for a course), is like watching paint dry ! If you are out day or night, to fill the freezer, you need a FAST dog, not a dog that sits behind wait
  2. If a dog hasn't got the speed to get on terms with it's quarry in small fields; it aint gonna catch it , simple as that. Cheers.
  3. a fast dog would not last a week in the places i work my dog ,mabe ok for you on them vast plains where they get time to pull up or turn wide ., We run ours in timber ground all the time so I aint buyin that either. dan you dont run dogs in small fields with hedges and walls like we do ,a fast dog does not cut it in these places ,that is all im saying ,other wise i would get a greyhound .or pure whipet . I would have thought the opposite were true; fast dogs for the small fields, plodders for the fens. Cheers.
  4. Just lately there has been a few posts where people, (usually newcomers), have been having a pop at some of the genuine dog lads ! Why ? I don't know, but it will be a sad day and a worse site if the genuine lads just say fcuk it, and stop posting. Cheers.
  5. There's no such thing as the "ultimate pot filler", or the "ultimate all rounder", (even though I still try to find one ! LOL !). There are dogs that are great at somethings, and there are dogs that are decent at most things, but I've never seen the dog that was great at ALL things ! I had LDR's Bruce in my kennel last year for a few months, he was as near as you'd get, very good at most things. My little bitch is good at most things, fur and feather, but has her shortcomings. So; the perfect Lurcher is, to me, a mythical beast; but that shouldn't stop us from trying to find it ! Cheers.
  6. No need to justify your dogs to anyone, Chipper....... If the guy has not seen them work; how can he comment on them ? Cheers.
  7. Are you sure it's 350 volts mate ? Is it single phase or three phase ? Current is amps, not voltage. You should get a sparky to look at it, to be on the safe side. Cheers.

The lad hasn't had any formal education and can't spell, he admits that, but it doesn't mean he is a bad lad..... Advising him to break into someones house and do criminal damage ain't gonna help him ! Cheers.
  9. I was getting the pics jumbled up and running into the next posts, but I just changed the option in the bottom left corner to HuntinglifeZ and it was cured !! Cheers.
  10. The guy who was killing the Greyhounds last year, in , I think, Sunderland, using a bolt gun, was not prosocuted and found guilty of killing dogs, he was done for disposing of the bodies without a lisence. The police and the RSPCA used to use him to kill dogs, but the press and antis made sure he was done for something ! Cheers.
  11. shame on you. shoooting hares if your dogs not able to catch them then leave them alone. or maybe you should write on the shooting pages on this site That bitch is more than capable, mate; but it's ILEAGAL to kill hares with a dog, but it is not ILEAGAL to retrieve shot hares with a dog !!!!! Cheers.
  12. I know it would be a long way in the future, but Don x Greyhound would produce some seriously good pups, in my mind ! Cheers.
  13. I've just come in from a couple of hours mooch about with my two youngest, ( 4 year old and 6 month old), brushed them down, fed them and put them in the kennel. The oldest, (12 + years old), is asleep on the couch. Her joints aren't what they were, so she just gets a short walk twice a day, and wanders about the yard. If her hips get to a point that it affects her quality of life to much, she will be P.T.S., if not she will live out her retirement in the house. I have no prblem with dogs going to pet homes or homes where they will be worked to their limited ability, but I think I owe it to th
  14. Tubba, if, indeed , it is the Malinois, (Belgian Shephard), you are on about; yes, a few people have bred Lurchers from them, and at least one bloke I know, works a pure Malinois to good effect. Cheers.
  15. Give your head a shake, mate !! Colour makes NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER to the hunting ability of a dog ! The quarry, whether night or day doesn't see a difference between a black or white dog !! The only difference MIGHT be if a keeper or farmer looking out from a mile or more away, might just see a BLACK or WHITE dog running a field, day time before he see's a brindle or fawn dog....... but it makes no difference to the quarry, or lamping !! Cheers.
  16. "Where The North Wind Blows", not the one about nuclear winter; this one is about Borzois hunting tigers in Russia. Also "The Doberman Gang", corny but watchable. Cheers.
  17. Saw one at Apleby Fair a couple of years ago; absolutely stunning looking; but the owner said it couldn't run to save it's life !! Cheers.
  18. They still do mate; Cheers. Edited to add; taken from another site; don't know how genuine this pic is.
  19. A freind of mine in Oz had a "domesticated" Dingo. It was very freindly and lived in the house and was well house trained. It got on well with the other dog, a Skye Terrier; but you could not let it of the lead, if you did it had to be cornered and got agressive when caught. It had the run of a big paddock but would dig under the fence and escape if not watched constantly! A few Ozzies have tried domesticating them and breeding them, but with little success. Cheers.
  20. If you know his address and feel so bad about it mate, go for it !! Take the goods back and get your dosh back ! All I'm trying to say is, trust no one who is selling things on the 'net, if you don't know them or they don't have a good reputation ! People have been scammed for a hell of a lot more than 30 quid ! Cheers.
  21. I don't send money to ANYONE I'm not sure of...... and if I did and got ripped off, I wouldn't come on here bleating about it. It's a chance you take; buying unseen goods off people you don't know. Cheers.
  22. CAVEAT EMPTOR !!! The way I see it, there are three ways of buying gear; face to face; off reputable guys; or take a chance, (as you did), and when you get ripped off, just say fcuk it, it was only 30 quid ! Cheers.
  23. Davey, yesterday Delta, my little Lurcher bitch, put two foxes up out of some bracken; one ran right in front of me. I had Lima, the sister to your dog, on the lead, she went wild, spinning around to be after the fox, but there is absolutely no way she will be slipped until next season. Just because they are big strong pups dosen't mean they have stopped growing ! It's asking for trouble, starting dogs of this type to soon. Cheers.
  24. Looking good Davey, but aren't they 25 weeks today? Bill told me they were born on the 11th July. My bitch is now 26 1/2 " and 55 lb. Cheers.
  25. Kelly, Greyhounds are bred to win money, so well bred pups from proven winners command big prices, as do proven stud dogs, (much the same as coursing dogs before the ban). But Lurchers are bred for sport, not money,(or at least they should be !!). So, if you have a top stud Greyhound, I can see where you are coming from. Cheers.
