  1. Take it to a vet and have it x-rayed. Broken toes can only be cured by rest. Cheers.
  2. sory that wasnt aimed at you, they can do both, whos to say they cant Of course they can both work and show ! I've shown my old bitch Delta with some sucess, but I know for a fact she won't have any sucess at NLRC or any of the "Championship" shows !! You have to be one of the "clique" to have any chance at these shows !! I have a Deer/Grey that I may show next year, any judge who knows dogs would probably give her a chance, but I don't expect anything ! There's one or two shows I may put her in where I think the judge/commitee are fair, but mostly she'll be doing what she was bred for
  3. I haven't a clue who "Roley" is, and never even suspected you were a "Pest Controler"! Perhaps your definition of "worker" and mine may wildly differ !! But, what the hell, you show your dogs.....I'll work mine, Good luck in the future ! Cheers.
  4. Iv'e been out with Colin a few times, and to tell the truth, he puts the rabbits in front of your dogs, then it's up to you and your dog ! He's one of the very few gentlemen in this game, a top man, and I hope to let him see my deer X run sometime this season ! Cheers.
  5. It takes some chutzpa for a man as"mature" and "rotund" as TOMO to wear trackie bottoms !!!!!!! LOl !!!!!!! Cheers. He is up and down those dales like a mountain goat............ Don't you mean "Old Goat" ???? LOL !! Cheers.

  7. As the judge in this particular show has said; it's virtualy impossible to tell a "worker" from a "Non-worker". But when alls said and done, the Lurcher show scene is riddled with corruption !! I'm not saying that's the case in this particular show, but I've seen it so often, I don't bother with shows now, unless it's to meet some old pals ! Far to many "judges" look at the owner, rather than the dog. Some dogs make a name for themselves in the field, others in the show ring, others in the racing. There is the odd dog that does well in all aspects, but they are few and far between !!! I doubt
  8. How many Beddy types have you actualy worked or seen working that yapped, or are you just going off what you have heard. Cheers.
  9. It's a difficult one, mate; but I couldn't have any confidence in a dog that picks and chooses what and where it runs..... Hope it gets over it. Cheers.
  10. Let's hope this exagerated back leg stance doesn't lead Lurchers down the same path as GSD's. Cheers.
  11. There's no specific amswer.... it's all down to the owner knowing his dogs;only an inexperienced owner or an idiot would overwork a dog to the point of it harming the dog. Cheers.
  12. Is this a wind up ? You put a post up showing us your Whippet pup, then the next thing is you're wanting to sell it !... and it;s not realy a Whippet, but might have collie and grey in it ?? This site never ceases to amaze me !!!!
  13. I remember refereeing a lamping match and lad slipped on a hare... I told him if his dog took it,it would still just count as one rabbit !! Later in the night a fox popped up in the beam, I told the lad if his dog killed it, it would count as two rabbits....... he declind to slip !! LOL !! Cheers.
  14. "Lurcher Racing" used to be a bit of fun; I've raced a rough coated 23" bitch against a 30" Deer/Grey in the past, and had a good craic about it afterwards ! But now it seems so competiteve; Greyhounds and Non-Ped Racing Whippets running, that have never done a days work in their lives !! The working Lurcher has no chance against these dogs. If these owners are so desparate for a "Racing Champion", why don't they run their dogs out of traps on recognised tracks, and leave the Lurcher racing for working dogs having a bit of fun in the summer ? Rant over.... I hope the dog makes a full recovery.
  15. My old Doberman, Tango, was professionaly trained to a very high standard by an Indian Army Dog Trainer, before I got her, and I couldn't hope to reach that standard with a Lurcher ! I consider myself a good dog WORKER, but not a very good dog TRAINER ! If they come back when called, jump, work the beam, retrieve to a half decent standard, then I'm happy !! I think the most important thing with a Lurcher is that it CATCHES !! Everything after that is a bonus !! LOL !! Cheers.
  16. I would say yes, they are "hybrids"; just as the coursing dogs now are considered "hybrid saluki/greyhounds"; but I think the "hybrid vigour" is only present in the 1st crosses. Cheers.
  17. Back in the late 60's,early 70's when Whippet/Greyhound 1st X's were becoming popular in the North East racing scene, the 1st X's were allways faster than the 2nd X's, (whippet/grey x whippet/grey), this was put down to "hybrid vigour" in the 1st X, which ws lost in the 2nd X's. Cheers.
  18. I don't think the OP was talking about "line breeding" in the traditional sense; I think he was on about breeding from proven lines of working dogs. Of course you stand a better chance of getting a decent pup if you breed top class worker to worker, but nothing is guaranteed, and it is possible to get a good worker out of two non-workers, but it is better if the parents are definately from working stock. Hybrid vigour has been mentioned, and topclass dogs can be bred from first crosses, and you have a good idea what a first cross will look like, whereas with "worker to worker", not all breeder
  19. well have to say fom what iv been reading on them, from what iv seen and what lads have told me the idea of owning one was short lived re-think time Ask the people who say Beddy X's yap, if their knowledge comes from personal experience or hearsay ????? My bitch Delta is sired by a first X Heartbreak Fell Beddy/Grey, and neither she nor her sire have ever yapped and are both top class allrounders. Cheers. Ahh..........but could beddys be like deerhounds, bulls etc?...........you either get the right blood or you dont?.......... Wilf; "Beddy X's yap". "Bull X's are sl

  21. The lad tested his dog; it did extremely well; and he filled his freezer, didn't dump them in a hedge bottom........... so why are people crabbing him ?????? Well done mate. Cheers.
  22. In the past, wasn't the dog show just outside the main show, and you didn't have to pay to get into the main show if you just wanted to show the dogs ? It's right though, all the country shows are getting worse, and charging more !! CHEERS.
  23. I didn't like to explain what "dogging" meant in English, to you lads, in case you thought I was weird !! LOL !! Cheers.
  24. Yeah mate, I just put post up on OzzieDoggers, asking if anyone would take me hunting when I was down there, and the lads went out of there way to take me hunting ! Great lads, great dogs and great hunting !! Cheers.
  25. Why would anyone skin and gut two roe......... then leave the carcasses in a ditch ??? Doesn't make sense ...... Cheers.
