  1. What do you mean "they dont have any lasting though do they?" Have you got 3 dogs then? The 2 being trained and the good lamp bitch you mentioned on the golf course thread? All the best Gaz no sory im training just my male.iv got a whippet bitch aswell shes mick brown lines and got a saluki bull whippet bitch.what i mean is normally after afew runs der generally f****d I'm confused ??? Didn't you say you Whippet bitch takes 10/10 EVERY time ??? Cheers.
  2. Well I can relate to what you are saying.I have had lurchers before, not into getting big numbers got a whipp that should catch enough to feed me and the dogs. Not knocking lurchers just for me a whipp is easier for me I can't see how a Whippet is easier to take care of, feed, etc, than a Lurcher ? I've got two Lurcher bitches, 23" & 29", and they take less looking after than our Mini Manchester Terrier and Chihuahua !! LOL !! Cheers.
  3. This one won any amount of races, killed pleanty hares, and took the odd roe. He was around 21" and 36lb....This was WAY before the ban was even thought of !! LOL !! Cheers.
  4. Only legal quarry IN THE U.K.; these Whippets take legal quarry in their own country; Cheers.
  5. I wouldn't hesitate to have a Whippet if all I wanted to do was race at the week end and have daytime mooch and a bit lamping, (as I did in the 60's & 70's), they're the perfect dog for that; but running all winter, day and night, on varied quarry, I think a decent Lurcher is the more sensible option. Cheers.
  6. It's well known I like Whippets, both Ped and Non-Ped, and have seen some VERY handy ones working the lamp and ferreting, BUT, as Reddawn says, they aren't a match for a good Lurcher. And while a Whippet will catch you rabbits, a lurcher is more versatile. Cheers.
  7. I don't think shows lack anything, as there is such a huge variety of them, from the small Hunt Shows, where costs have to be kept to an absolute minimum and it is a simple Lurcher & Terrier show; to the huge Game Fair Shows where they have all the bouncy castles, etc. There are some shows which are "family friendly" and some which cater simply for the dog men, I suppose all you can ask for at any show is good organisation, straight judging, and a fair crack of the whip !! Cheers.
  8. Yes Chartpolski, i've signed and put my name down as the 2nd named person and paid 75% of the rent with the greyhound owner 25%. By 'something like this' do you mean the situation or because i have been put down as a person allowed to tend the plot? I mean the situation, mate. We wouldn't allow people to share a plot, or sub-let, as it leads to this type of situation. Also, with councils insisting on 3rd party insurance, it has to be in the plot holders name, and could lead to all sorts of problems if some one sharing a plot got hurt. You should go to one of your comittee meetings and g
  9. Yeah, I buy lots of gear when I'm in the 'States, from Walmart, much cheaper than here ! Did you not have a look in Schepplers, the biggest Western Store in the world ? I spent a fortune in there ! LOL ! Cheers.
  10. Did you not sign an agreement and pay rent for your plot ?? I'm on the comittee of our allotments and something like this wouldn't be allowed to happen. If the land is owned by the council, you should pay rent and 3rd party insurance to them thru' the comittee. Cheers.
  11. The Alamo was supprising, Bird, it's smack bang in the middle of a modern shopping precinct !! But the guided tour was good, saw where Crocket, Bowie, etc, were killed, realy interesting. Cheers.
  12. Yeah Whin; it's a great place for hunters and hunting !! I've spent a bit time down there, mainly Texas, I was based in San Antonio, and had trips out around Waco and Fredriksburg, We may have some mutual aquaintances out there ! I saw the Pecos and the Rio Grande, even managed to fit in some sightseeing, The Alamo, Book Depository, Dealy Plaza, etc. Nice people, well into their huntin', shootin', fishin', It would be a great place to live and hunt, just like Oz and NZ ! Cheers.
  13. I think Cookie is after one to replace the one he has misplaced !! LOL !! Cheers.
  14. With all due respect, rubbish! Don't go by everything you read on here pal.. Please explain whats rubbish mate. I realise on here isn't the be all and end all of the lurcher world but its a part of it. And i know people personnally as well. I dont want to offend anyone by saying its a numbers game, obvioulsy for some its not. But its not like every c**t is Zak Dingle ffs......... You leave Zak out of this !!! 18. i dont know the man hope that he will do a good job.but i think they should bring in working judges they would get a better crowd. I've worked dogs for over 45 years, and judged quite a few shows... do you REALY think people know what I, or other judges have done ? I'ts a dog show ffs !! I'ts not Crufts !! Have a day out, show your dogs, and have the good grace to congratulate the winners and thank the judges !! Judging is a thankless job, but we do it because we love dogs, and there wouldn't be a show without a judge !! Cheers.

  21. FF, I don't understand your concern about the pup in the pen with the lambs ? This is the second time you've mentioned it, what do you think is wrong with sheep training/breaking a pup in this manner ??? Cheers.
  22. When they're pups, we can't wait 'till they've grown...... then we wonder where the years went !! From this to this; And from this to this; Cheers.
