Well, I've had a fair few dogs over the last 45 years, some as "allrounders", some brought in for specialised jobs, but the two I have in my kennell just now, are not realy any different to the dogs I had back in the 70's. I still hunt the same game, day and night, using the same methods, although the lamps and batteries have improved a lot ! I've owned just about every "mainstream" cross or purebred, apart from Bull X, and I still get enjoyment out of the "game", weather its lamping, daywalking, ferreting or just mooching ! Cheers.

Knows how to turn.............
chartpolski replied to Irish Lurcher's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The dog did it's job, but nothing special. In fact, I'm a bit disapointed that it didn't finish the job quicker. It may be a better dog on different ground, but on plough, it didn't realy impress ! Cheers. -
I judged a couple of these a few year back. Nice looking dogs, black and tan. The breed was supposed to go back hundreds of years, but then the guy told me they had Piccardy in them, so I suppose that contradicted the "hundreds of years" of the same breeding ! LOL ! Cheers.

A pair of Pedigree Whippets used on foxes in Australia; They didn't take all those foxes, they were used as part of a team including Staghounds, 'Roo Dogs & Terriers. Cheers.

I'm sure people DO understand this ! The posts about coyote in the US or foxes in Oz, or pigs in NZ don't get deleted. It's the posts by idiots where it's obvious that they are breaking the law, and the posts by people simply slagging each other off, that get deleted . Cheers.

did,nt relize that tread got removed ,what were they bitching about chap The threads still on mate, but I lost interest in it when a couple of the "usual suspects" started slagging each other and their dogs. Nothing whatso ever to do with the post. Cheers.

There was a topic about "Tallest Lurcher", and it was quite interesting..... until some people turned it into a bitchfest !!! What they were on about had NOTHING to do with the topic, they should PM each other if they want school yard arguments !!!! Cheers.

Of course SOME Whippets, not all, will take fox...but why ? There are far better crosses and pures for the job. Fox should be taken as quickly and cleanly as possible, it shouldn't turn into a fight, which it sometimes does with Whippets ! Whippets are grand little dogs, but shouldn't be over matched. Cheers.

Your first two sentences are a complete contradiction, mate ! Cheers.

What would you say is best for rabbit?
chartpolski replied to panther82's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Yes you can !! LOL !! You can go wrong with ANY cross...no cross is foolproof. Anyhow, back to the question; any dog thats fast off the mark and can turn well will catch rabbits. There's loads of crosses and pures out there will do the job. Cheers. -
breeding dogs and what age do you breed a stud dog
chartpolski replied to whin's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I can see both points of view. Whin says he runs his dogs "hard"; but "hard" here isn't the same as, say "hard" in Oz, N.Z. or the U.S., where the quarry is vastly different to what we run here, and some dogs that run the big stuff don't make it thru' the first season, never mind four or five seasons ! If a dog makes it to it's third season running some of the bigger stuff in these countries, it's done well !! LOL !! So if some one breeds a young dog, that may not make old age, to keep the bloodline, then I can understand that. But what we run here, dogs, barring accidents, should have a longe -
breeding dogs and what age do you breed a stud dog
chartpolski replied to whin's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
As I said; I think a dog should have AT LEAST four seasons behind it, before being bred from. But I wouldn't tell others how to do it.... if it works for them; that's their business. Cheers. -
breeding dogs and what age do you breed a stud dog
chartpolski replied to whin's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I've had this conversation before, with the Australian lads. Some of them think nothing of using a young dog at stud, sometimes only 12-18 month old. Their reasoning is "if the blood and breeding is there, why not ?". They say it works for them, so good luck to them ! I, personaly, wouldn't breed from a dog or bitch until it had proven itself over at least four seasons. Cheers. -
Is there two different threads going on here ?? Anyhow; Little & Large !! 3/4 Deer-1/4 Grey; Cheers.

Do Galgo's realy "open up" ? Is it the odd one , or is it a common fault ? Seems strange they would be used as coursing dogs, if that is the case. And aren't they used as track dogs in Spain ? Again, a strange choice, if they yap. Cheers.

AND A PUNCTURE REPAIR KIT AND A BOWL OF WATER ONLY JOKING GET A BASEBALL BAT Most keepers will let a tyre down, rather than puncture it,as they have been known to make mistakes, and could be done for criminal damage. Cheers.

Carry a foot pump or one of those cheap 12v compressors in your motor, and a handfull of spare valves Cheers.

Most of the very best pups, bred from the very best of workers are passed to guys who will look after them and work them, and not a penny changes hands ! And of course, they aren't advertised on here. I find it strange that a lad is getting stick for offering well bred, worker to worker pups for £50 !! If he had asked £250, people would be slagging him for not selling at "working lads prices " !! There's always someone on here to crab, no matter what Cheers.
-
Not doubting he has been there, but he's always asking other people to put pics up to proove what they are saying, just take the Beddy/Hare thread... he won;t believe guys until he see's a pic.... yet he wont put pics of his own up !! Hypocrite comes to mind !! Cheers.
-
His words, and the pics he keeps promising, but never appear, are probably straight out of Dutch Salmonds books !! LOL !! C'mom Whin, you couldn't have went over there all these years and never took a pic !! Cheers.
-
Lets get back to the origional question; YES, people did, (and still do). run Beddy/Greys on hares. YES they caught the odd hare, but couldn't be classed as "Hare Dogs" ! YES, I would class them as fair allrounders ! Now, this is just my opinion, others will have different opinions Cheers.
-
Whin... what on earth makes you think that I think Beddy/Greys are hare dogs, going by what I have posted ??
-
READ MY FIRST POST YOU PRICK !!!! You are simply trying to cause an argument as usual ! If you read my post and disagree, then tell me what you disagree with what I said...not what you THINK I said.
