  1. You can get a dog insured for about £8 a month; well worth it if you work your dog. Cheers.
  2. Don't know if you'll get any heats done up here tomorrow. I had a walk out with the dogs today, and the ground is like iron !! Frost forecast for tonight aswell !! Good luck, all. Cheers.
  3. Who says you can't have a say, Dodger ?? ALL constructive ideas will be taken on board. It's only the idiots who want the comp to fail, who we won't listen to ! It's up to the organiser, LDR, to make and implement the rules; it's HIS competition, no one elses ! The "know alls" come out of the woodwork and tell him how to do it, yet they don't enter ! Cheers.
  4. No; YOUR comments drew Kays comments !! But who realy cares ? I hope NEITHER of your or Gaps admirable efforts will be adversly affected by this thread, and I hope the pup makes a full recovery and gets rehomed ,but I still feel the funds were being misdirected, in this case. It's Gaps decission how they spend their funds; but best of luck to you all ! Cheers.
  5. Whin, could you please use a bit of punctuation, and if your pc has "spellcheck", how about turning it on ? I'm sure your posts would be imformative and interesting.......if only we could understand them !! Cheers.
  6. Lurcherlass, to me, it appears you have drawn your rescue centre into a thread that has nothing to do with it !! No one has said anything bad about your work ! The discussion appears to be about a charity spending a huge amount of money on one pup. The charity has already committed to spending the money and is now casting around for donations. Even charities have to make decissions on how they spend the donations best; and it appears to most on here that they are making a mistake in this case. Yes we feel sorry for thepup, but the greater good must prevail ? Cheers.
  7. DD, ignore them mate ! It's allways the ones who HAVEN'T entered who criticise !! Lets see them organise a competition that covers the whole of Great Britain ! Of course it should have been over by now, but that is up to the organiser and the entrants....nobody else ! Cheers.
  8. I had a deer/grey pup get Parvo Virus in the early '80s; after three days of intensive treatment, and a huge vet bill,(paid by me, no insurance back then), it died anyway. My concern here is that the charity is commiting a huge sum of it's limited resources to a 10 week old pup, that even if it recovers, will still need to be found a home. What about all the otherwise healthy dogs they have, would the money not be better spent on them ? Are hearts over ruling heads here ? Cheers.
  9. The people on here are not "SUPPOSEDLY" dog lovers; they ARE dog lovers !! And it is a fact that some have spent many thousands of pounds on vet bills for their OWN dogs; and many support their local pounds and places like the PDSA. But it's naive to come on here looking for money to pay a £2000 bill for a 10 week old pound pup, that has the odds stacked against it, anyway. Surely the money woulld be better spent rehoming the fit dogs ? Cheers.
  10. Now I'm not being cynical or negative; but what makes this pup more "special" than the thousands of other pound dogs that are put down every year ? Cheers.
  11. As many as you can spend time feeding, exercising, grooming, providing good kennelling for and working ! And not to forget the vet fee's ! Cheers.
  12. cmon boys you can tell its an old dog check out the lofas .....lol only joking mate but lurchers to a lurcher site dobermans to the kennel club What dogs do you work, mate ? Cheers. PS, the Doberman isn't KC; she was bred in Holland, out of German stock, was flown to Saudi arabia, given to me to replace my old Saluki, and then imported here by me. Worked very well flushing roe, fox, etc, from copses to the Lurchers, pre ban of course. The origional question was "Retired workers", not "Retired Lurchers". Cheers.
  13. Can I take it you know nothing of Freemasonry CP? I do not think it belongs in this frame. As to M P's who have defrauded us ,chuck them out ,I am with you on that. What pisses me off are the adverts/warnings on the TV about benefit fraud. I've no problem with them being brought to answer for their misdeeds ,but their misdemeanours pale beside the greedy antics of MP's who are not strapped for cash to start with. So you think Freemasonry isn't rife in the Legislature, Judiciary and the Police ??????????? You may be insinuating you are a Freemason, which undoubtatly prooves you are
  14. While I'm glad these FOUR troughers have been charged; let's not forget there were allmost FOUR HUNDRED M.P.s ordered to pay back money they stole !! These four are just a sacraficial ONE PERCENT of the thieves !! And I will bet now, that not one of them gets jail time !! When the Establisment Judges and the Masonic handshakes have their way, these four will slip off into some well paid "consultancy" jobs !! Cheers.
  15. Berty, we are "allowed" to hunt rabbits, but not hares; we are "allowed" to hunt rats, but not mice ! Any government CAN pass a law to allow fox hunting, but not hare coursing. I hope ALL hunting returns, but never discount the duplicity of politicians; they say what you want to hear...until they are in power. Cheers.
  16. I dont't agree with individual lisencing for hunting, lamping, ferreting, etc. I stongly object to having to buy a rod lisence; I have to have a day lisence to fish at the vast majority of places I go, so a rod lisence is basicaly a tax on owning a rod. Hunting and fishing are my sports, so what next; a lisence to play football, go jogging or any other sport or pastime people may engage in ? We need LESS government and stealth taxes in our lives, not MORE. I don't think the Tories will overturn the ban, they will just modify the law to suit organised hunting. The lurcher lads will not gain any
  17. I would delete any mention of using live animals to train dogs, and forget about doing it, you are asking for trouble from the law, and anti's....Other than that, it seems like a good idea. Good luck. Cheers.
  18. It shouldn't matter where the dog is from; if it's what you want, you should be prepared to travel to get it ! I got one of mine local, the other I travelled around 400 mile for. I can't understand people posting on the "for sale" ads saying "lovely pups mate, wish I was nearer", etc. If you realy wanted one, you'd travel ! Cheers.
  19. Because that dog done more work than most that are talked about on here! dont think so mate, try getting a lurcher next time if you think a dobermans good catching one or two rabbits you be well happy with a dog which can run I've got dogs that run, have had for many years.
  20. Inan, I to have over 40 years experiance with running dogs; and I to have walked out, day and night, with some of the big "names", but I have never heard such drivel as I have heard on this thread about dogs being "to fast" ! Why the hell do we put the best to the best, then throw in dogs like Ballyreagan Bob and other top greyhounds, if not to get the speed back in ???? I've talked to a few lads tonight, and they all agree...... yes stamina is important, but without speed, they would just be curs !! The quarry is fast; it needs a fast dog to get up to it ! Cheers.
  21. So all you guys who think a dog can be to fast........ get yourselves a 3/4 collie x 1/4 grey, that should be fast enough for you; won't catch owt mind, but certainly won't be to fast !! Cheers.
  22. 2good, can you give us a brief resume' of your dog work/hunting experiance ? I have a feeling you are new to the game, or you are a former member just looking for arguments ! Cheers.
  23. I like to have a day at the Whippet racing on a saturday, and standing at the scratch mark and looking at the finish line is 150 yds, it looks a lot farther than the 150 yd slips some lads give on the field, LOL !! Cheers.
  24. That surprises me Dan ,I would have thought they were much longer,as I beleive the coyote can stay quite well.Ive learned something new. Inan, your'e a coursing man..... surley you know that 2 minutes in the mind is a lot different from 2 minutes on the clock ! Cheers. Point taken! How many times have I heard someone say "that must have been about 4/5 mins"? Estimations of the duration of a course are often like estimations of the length of a slip, very subjective, and dependant on who is doing it!I would not attempt to engage Miles in a debate on running dogs ,unless I wanted
  25. Because that dog done more work than most that are talked about on here!
