who bred the longist lines of proven dogs to date

I agree entirely, but the line must surely be diluted by 50% as soon as you outcross ? Cheers. Sure ,but then you cross back into the line . The outcross then is only diluted by 1/4 and you would be fixing the genes of the line which would be stronger So you'd take a pup from the "outcross". and put it back to a dog/bitch from the origional line ? Yeah, of course thats done, but it still dilutes the "origional" line; that's my point ! Dare I use "Minshaws" as an example ? If a Minshaw is put to a pure Collie or a pure greyhound, are the offspring "Minshaws" ? If a pup from the cros -
Sorry to here that, mate !! But there ARE worse things in life than losing a dog. You may not think so at the moment, and like you, I'm gutted when I lose a dog, whatever the circumstances are ! Chin up, and don't let it sicken you in the dog game. Get another pup and give it your best !! I wish you all the luck in the world with your next dog !! Cheers.

But surely as soon as an unrelated dog/bitch is introduced into the "line"; it is no longer the same "line" ? This isn't an argument, but what I hope will become a good discussion. Cheers/ -

I can trace the lines of my first X Deer/Grey back to 1820... but so can anyone with a first X. Just about every registered Greyhound goes back to "Pilot", and most Deerhounds can be traced back to the 1800's. But you're right; who needs more than five generations ? Cheers. -

There's probably dogs that can trace their breeding back to the old Deerhound/Collie/greyhounds from the Ashington area of Northumberland, to at least the 50's..... But as DNA has proved that at least 50% of Europeans can trace their lineage back to Ghengis Khan; it don't realy mean to much !! How many "lines" have kept true, without an outcross now and again ? Even the breeders of the best stock will tell you they have added a Greyhound or Saluki at some time, for whatever reason; and that alone means the "line" has been, at least, diluted ! Cheers. -

An old car spotlamp, a bit of broomshank, a door bell pushbutton, some wire, and someone who could put it all together, job done !! LOL !! Worst part was the motor bike battery leaking acid all over your Barbour jacket and jeans !! You only knew about it when it burnt your skin !! LOL !! Cheers.

When you say "not that long ago", when was that, Cookie ? Cheers.

Is there a lot of feral cats in your area, Nick ? Didn't see to many when I was down there, but the dogs seemed to deal with them ok when they come across them. Cheers.

Perhaps this will put to rest the question "can one dog take 100 rabbits ?" It's been done in the past, and these lads have proved it CAN be done ! They went out of their way, with good dogs and did it !! Well done lads, and dogs !! Cheers.

Of course he's right !! But posting another bitching topic that will only invite the type of replies it has, doesn't help !! Why not post something about hunting if you are so keen ?? Cheers.

Rather ironic, isn't it ? Posting a topic bitching about...... bitching !! LOL !! Cheers.

When Parvo first started to appear round here, late 70's, early 's, I had 3 dogs. Two adults, (a Collie x and a Saluki x), and an 8 month pup, (Deerhound x), in the same kennels. The pup caught Parvo and died, even with extensive vet treatment. The other dogs were fine. All of them had been innoculated. I burnt all the bedding and cleaned the kennels out with Jeyes Fluid. I think it's just luck if your other dogs get it or not. Hope all works out well for you and your dogs ! Cheers.

So, going by your calculation; the dog that did 101 would have caught one rabbit every 4 to 5 minutes ? Cheers.

England judging terriers/lurchers
chartpolski replied to sillydilly's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
I'm one of these extroverts who LOVES judging !! I must admit, I prefer judging Whippets, as there is a "standard" to work to, rather than with Lurchers, where it is simply the Judges preference ! Of course, if like me, you like rough coated dogs, you MUST have the integrety to put up a smooth coated dog, if it is the better specimen ! Same with size...... how many times have we seen the under 23"; literaly and metorphoricaly, overshadowed by the bigger dog ? Very rarely will you see a top class Beddy/Whippet win over a mediochre Deerhound/Greyhound, but it's only in one persons eyes that's th -
feck me charti , dont say that you'll be labeled a cruel b*****d like me Chid; there's some VERY well known people from this site have had their dogs in my kennels, and no complaints, (also had a few of thier dogs in my house and bedrooms, and no complaints from me !!) !! If a dog is good enough to graft.... it;s good enough to be well looked after !! Cheers. what you had whins dogs in your kennel.................lol.............. there dogs...........dont make a difference if the people are well known or not , dont make his or her dog any diferrent to the next..............
-
I would imagine we all have...... but wouldn't come on an open forum talking about it !! Cheers.

Am I reading this right ?? You've been chased off some fields you haven't got permission to be on................... and you have come on here asking for comments ????? Cheers.

England judging terriers/lurchers
chartpolski replied to sillydilly's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
So what if a Judge has MANY friends in the show scene ? Should he/she not be allowed to judge ? Or should his/her integrety not be taken into consideration ?? There are Judges who would rather fall out with "friends" than corrupt their integrity; and frankly, without these genuine judges, the show scene would be f****d !! Cheers.
