  1. There's nowhere in the British Isles I wouldn't travel for the right dog. After all, I'd probably have it for the next 10 - 15 years !! If someone won't travel less than 100 mile for a pup, perhaps they are in the wrong game ? Cheers.
  2. Aren't "Nightmare" and "Calamity", rather over the top words for a dog running about in a cornfield for an hour or two? Cheers.
  3. Bit off a wild swing in choices of sire, isn't it ?? Bull first, then Saluki !! When you see or hear of a good Deerhound, will that be your next choice ?? Is your bitch worth breeding off, has she proven herself, how many seasons graft has she had ?? Cheers.
  4. While I admire anyone who can train a dog to a high degree, I allways have a niggling little worry about a dog that can be called off it's quarry in mid-flight ! Of course, Levs didn't claim he could call his dog off mid-course, he has it trained to NOT run certain species, which is his choice. There's a massive difference between training a dog to ignore certain quarry, and a dog with no "heart", usualy known as a "jacker" !! I certainly couldn't call my dogs off anything, mid-course; so if anyone wants to call them "point and slip" dogs, they're welcome, but they do the job for me !
  5. Greyhounds need to be muzzled by law ??? Are you sure ? I haven't heard of that law, and an awful lot of Greyhound owners up here must be breaking the law, if thats true Cheers. In Northern Ireland there is The Control of Greyhounds Act. It also says the rules involved apply to whippets and cross breeds as well . Does the law apply in England ? Cheers.
  6. here you go, Joe; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bourbon_biscuit Cheers.
  7. Is it legal to take bourbons single handed at hetton lyons? Chocolate ones? Is there any other ? Cheers.

  9. No mate, the lad who owns the bitch is "old school" and isn't one for photo's or internet. Cheers.
  10. That's a bit to cryptic for me Cheers.
  11. Well, there's the Formal Introduction; " hello monsiuer Reynard, how do you do?", and then there's the Informal introduction; "C'mere, you smelly little b*****d !!". It depends entirely on the social occasion ! Cheers.
  12. Saluki/Whippet/Greyhound bitch, smooth coated, fawn coloured with distinctive scarring on sides, legs and back; stolen from Burradon are of Newcastle. No pics available at the moment. Cheers.
  13. are you sure its not summer????? Winter-nov-dec-jan spring-feb-mar-April-summer-may June-July-Autumn-august -September- October may be am wrong but is there not 3 months in each season?????? No mae there's not ! LOL ! Believe me, August is summer !! Cheers. So there 4 seasons how many months are in a season ??????? The seasonal year doesn't divide equaly into four segments, mate. I could try and explain about the eliptical route the earth takes around the sun, but somehow I think I would be wasting my time ! LOL ! If you want August to be in the autumn, that's O.K. with me !
  14. I think it's obvious that the majority of lads that get decent bags have to travel to get them ! It's no good moaning about the number of rabbits you see, if you are only going around the doors ! Likewise the people who don't believe the lads who catch big bags, but are not prepared to travel themselves !! Like everything else, you only get out of it, what you put into it !! Cheers.
  15. How long a "course" do you expect to see on a rabbit ? Cheers.
  16. Well, the Pups are usualy on first and the final, obviously, on last; so if a pup owner wanted to hang around all day just to get nothing in the final, that would be up to them. I don't show my dogs now, but if I did, I think that would put me off, rather than give me encouragment. At the end of the day, pups shouldn't, in my mind, be shown untill they at least have their adult teeth, around six months, so anyone showing a pup wouldn't have to long to wait until it was eligible for the adults anyway, and could use the Puppy classes to get the pup used to the ring and being handled by a judge,
  17. What would be the point of putting a puppy thru' to the Final ? No judge worth his salt is going to give an untested, still growing pup, a win over mature working dogs ! Of course 95% of dogs at shows aren't "workers", but their owners will insist they are ! Whereas a Pup certainly isn't, yet, a worker, but a Veteran at least could or should be a worker. Far better to let the Vet into the final, and have a seperate Puppy Championship. Cheers.
  18. I used to use 7 ah batteries. One on the lamp and one as a spare. They will last a couple of hours lamping. Cheers.
  19. I've got an old BSA Meteor, in perfect nick, grand old air guns !! Welcome aboard ! Cheers.
  20. If you have time to work a dog, how can you not find a couple of minutes to record their kills ? I keep a game book, and every single kill/catch is entered. It takes seconds to do, after the dogs have been seen to and the catch sorted out. I think a lot of people don't keep a game book, as it would be an accurate record of what was actualy caught, instead of what they tell their mates they have caught !! LOL !! Cheers.
  21. Whats a pup got to prove in a show ring. If theres no pup championship why not put it into over all championship and take its chance. It may not win but the owner will feel that they got a sporting chance at it. Just my opinion. LL. Pups USUALY have their own final; Veterans don't. Cheers.

  23. I would say seven, (the usual criterea for being a veteran at most shows), is hardly "ancient" ! And I'm looking forward to this season with my seven year old bitch, who is still well capable of filling a bag ! Cheers.
