Four grams is exactly twenty carats. The ancients weighed things in carats, (the carob seed was of a very uniform weight so was used for weighing, the name morphing into "carat", as used for weighing jemstones). First full day of the U.K. Open yesterday. A few surprises; Anderson went out, Wright, last years World Champion went out. Durrant and Bunting, both BDO World Champions out. Barney out on his televised comeback. I like this tournament as it's re-drawn after each round instead of the "ladder" system of progression. Chizzy and Bully Boy Smith both did well to go through, and both have the skill to win if only they didn't lose their bottle in the later stages. MVG and Price still look to be strong favourites. I guess it's like snooker, you either love it or hate

On the macro level, yes, I agree; chaos theory, when a butterfly flaps its wings, etc, etc. But on the micro level, and my circumstances in particular, and not wanting to sound selfish, it won't make a damn bit of difference to my relatively frugal existence ! ? Cheers.

I knew it affected limited companies, but if you are a "one man limited company" is there a threshold to be reached before paying the top rate ? Or are you still on PAYE ? If it adversely affects one man type operations, it can't be good. Ive never been self employed, so don't know the mechanics of it . Cheers.

The likes of Starbucks and Facebook will have absolutely no impact on me, but I use Amazon a lot. Did the budget include something that was mooted; an on-line purchase charge, supposedly to make the "High Street" more competitive ? Cheers.

Isn't the tax rise from 19% to 25% Corporation Tax ? Isnt that what most people wanted, big business paying more tax on their profits ? Wonder how it will affect the likes of Starbucks, Facebook, Amazon, etc. Cheers.

Becoming "cashless" doesn't bother or affect me much, in fact the only place I can think of where I need cash is the animal feed merchants that I use. I find that the more cash I have in my wallet, the more I spend ! Cheers.

Isn't that not being phased in until 2023 ? There will be about four budgets by then, now that they have a "budget" and an "autumn review", the economy could have forged ahead, or gone down the pan by then ! Anyhow, I don't think corporation tax will affect most of us ? Cheers.

I don't ascribe to time limited gussets. When a gusset assumes the texture of a corduroy cap, or a suitcase handle, then it's probably time to evaluate its "wearability " and need for replacing or laundering ? Cheers.

As an old'un, I liked a relax in the bath with Radox Men's Muscle Therapy. But Radox has decided "Men's" is sexist and has rebranded it as just "Muscle Soak". The advert on the telly now has some bint in a bubble bath. Just another small step in the ongoing emasculation of men ! Well, Im boycotting all their products, f**k 'em ! Cheers.

There's the little anomaly that if she's found guilty of misleading parliament and lying, the Ministerial Code advises she resigns.....but.....it's the First ministers decision to implement that advice, and, of course she IS the First Minister. My thoughts are it will be fudged, she may be admonshished for misleading parliament "by accident, not deliberately", and she will decide that isn't serious enough for her to resign. Then they will be free to try and make Scotland a "one party state", governed by Brussels. Cheers.

I grew loads of runners last year and the only problem I had was birds taking the seed. Simply cured be covering them with that netting they use on building sites. I could allways find a few cheap rolls at the auctions and it lasts a long time. I had a huge crop and no problem with the established plants by pests , disease or birds. Not growing them this year as me and the missus aren't that keen on them. Will be growing more dwarf French green beans and peas instead. Cheers.

Isn't racing popular in Holland ? I seem to remember seeing whippets, afghans, borzoi, etc being raced. I know people who have sent whippets and Deerhounds over there. Shame about the hunting and coursing, though. Cheers.
