  1. Dogs & Natives !!!! That was the name of the guy with the catahoulla cross ! See.......Alzheimer's hasn't taken over completely.........yet ! Cheers.
  2. To be fair, Doxhope bitches were supposedly small for Deerhounds , but my old bitch which is half Doxhope made 29" !!! This pup has a lot of Doxhope in her deerhound side, and her dam isn't big for an Irish coursing bred bitch, but those Irish dogs have been getting bigger and bigger over the years, so, I guess, if she doesn't go ove 30", it'll do for what I want ! ?? Cheers.
  3. No idea mate, only seen one fell hound cross, almost fifty years ago. A mate of mine got it as an adult dog. Had it out many times on a long lead, it would find hares no problem......first time he slipped it , it disappeared into the distance , howling like a hound and was never seen again ! Cheers.
  4. There was a lad on here, I can't remember his user name, but LDR and myself had a couple of run outs on his permission with him. A top class lad, and I seem to remember he was running a catahoulla x on the Northumberland fells, be interesting to see how it turned out. Cheers.
  5. Allways fancied a catahoulla if I had unlimited kennel space and time. Some nice ones down Oz. Cheers.
  6. I once put up a post "Are Pures Really Pure" ? Relating to Deerhounds and Greyhounds. Deerhounds of course had an influx of greyhound blood, sanctioned by the kennel club, ostensibly to prevent them becoming to "cloddy" and becoming undishinguisable from Irish Wolfhounds. But long before, when the invention of the sporting gun meant their job of coursing and catching deer became obsolete, there was in addition of "nose" from various other breeds, to enable them to track wounded quarry. The Greyhound, as we know had bull blood added in the 1800's by Lord Orford to his coursing dogs, s
  7. A pun, a double entendre' even !!!! I knew there was humour in you, deep down, mate ! ? ? ! Cheers.
  8. Not one person I've talked to today agrees with sharing the gold medal for the high jump. They can't call themselves "Olympic Champion" as neither actually won ! Best they should have had was a silver medal each, but that would still have been a cop out. There should have been a "jump off" to decide the winner. Cheers.
  9. I'm sure it does, but I heard it falls, mainly, on the plain. ? Cheers.
  10. I was told long ago that smart phones, smart tv's, Echo's, Alexa's, etc are "listening" to us. Years ago, my late son was a diplomat working in the British Consulate in Saudi and he told me "dad, be careful what words you use when we are on the phone, even a land line, as certain "key words" are flagged up and the government computers are watching for them, and you could get a visit". From the Saudi government, I asked ? Yes, he said, but also from the British government ! So "they" have been listening to us for a long time.......... Cheers.
  11. Of course. That's just one of many variables that mean you can't give a definitive answer as to when a dog is at its best ? Cheers.
  12. How long is a piece of string ? When a working dog is at its peak surely depends on its type, breed, when it was started, what work it's does, what quarry it runs and on what type of land. My old Beddy type worked well until over ten then I retired her. My deer cross worked from one, and caught her first fallow at nine and worked until over ten. One thing I've noticed, it wasn't a gradual decline with my dogs, it came on quite quickly, but a dog of five or six should, reasonably, be in its prime. Just my opinion ? Cheers.
  13. Read my post carefully......I said "why DID people import the Saluki" , not "why DO people import the Saluki " They were imported in the past to improve the coursing dogs we had. This was done to great effect and judicious and planned breeding is why the coursing dogs we have now most probably wouldn't be improved by the addition of more imports. Cheers.
  14. Now, I've nothing against galgo's, some of them I've seen on video seem very capable, but if they are so good, and available almost on our doorstep, and far easier to import, why did people go to the great bother and expense of importing Salukis from the Middle East to breed and improve coursing dogs in the UK ? This is a genuine question and in no way meant to be derogatory of galgo's. Cheers.
  15. It's not dog shelters that hang them, it's owners. The Spanish are cruel fuckers, ; every season they get rid of the culls, but some owners just hang them, drown them or simply throw them out on the street. Why not just shoot them ? Ive said this before, and had some stick from some people, but loading a donkey until it collapses, just for fun, or throwing a goat out of a tower in a religious ceremony, or torturing a bull until it's so weakened and maddened by pain that a ponce in a fancy suit can kill it isn't my idea of sport. I like the Spanish coursing, and wish we still had it,
  16. I'm a huge darts and snooker fan, my two favourite sports, but I wouldn't want them in the Olympics. Winning the World Championship in either is my idea of reaching the pinnacle. Is winning Olympic gold the same, better, or not quite as good as winning the World Championship in your chosen sport ? I really don't know ? . Cheers.
  17. That's her ! Yeah, hammer, not weight lifting. Said they deliberately flew the American flag and played the national anthem when she was on the podium, (she came third in the trials), just to upset her !!! Shes a BLM supporter. Cheers.
  18. And of course, they had live pigeon shooting at the 1900 Olympics ! Now that would be fun, just to see the reactions of the snowflakes ! ? ! Cheers.
  19. Quite correct , one of the origional sports. My bad. Cheers.
  20. First Olympics that I can't really raise any interest in. Theyve allways been about money and politics and it's getting worse. The Japanese people were against holding them but money talks. Now the "mental health " nonsense has started; the American girl dropping her team mates in it, the jap tennis player blaming the "pressure" on losing, just waiting for that yank bint in the weigh lifting that hates her own country. Of course there's pressure when you are trying to be the best in the world, it comes with the job....and if you hate your country, it's anthem and its flag,
  21. I used to get all my dog meat from a local game dealer, it was very cheap, about 20p per pound, it included everything from steak to pork, offal, chicken carcasses, game, etc. Sadly he retired and closed down. Now I get mince chicken, minced green tripe, minced salmom, rabbit, etc, from a local tripe dealer, 60p per pound, still cheap in my opinion. As has been said, you can pick up trays of mince, chicken, etc from the "reduced " shelves of the supermarkets. A kilo bag of chicken wings for £1:80, three kilo of chicken thighs for under a fiver. If your budget doesn't stretc
  22. I think it's fair to say I like brindle running dogs ! ? ! I like the look of that one, good luck with her ? Cheers.
