  1. If the guy wanted the hare for his dinner, he should have just picked it up.......would have saved time, energy and petrol ? Cheers.
  2. While I've been reading this, my six year old grandson just called me from saudi ! It's around 40c there just now ! We shouldn't confuse saudi with the UAE, completely different lifestyles, UAE far easier going. I lived in Saudi 26 years, but still visit regularly to see my family either in saudi or UAE. My daughter in law is Saudi and my grandson is dual nationality. When im out there politics, religion, race doesn't come into it......if you can talk about Salukis, falcons, hunting and especially if you can talk a bit of Arabic, you'll see a whole different side to the Arabs.
  3. I was retired and back in the UK then, a friend of my daughter invited me out to see his Saluki kennels and falcon mews, so no hunting then. When I lived in Saudi I was out every weekend , but as said, very little game around. Cheers.
  4. Salukis come in all sizes, shapes , coats and colours, and fair enough, some do look like sloughis. A few pics I took in the Arabian Saluki Centre in Abu Dhabi, And one I had in Saudi; Cheers.
  5. mC, I don't want to sound condescending or patronising, but Morocco is in North Africa, Saudi is the Arabian peninsula, many, many miles apart. Saudi is Arab, and has only existed as a country for less than 100 years, Morocco is also Arab, but also Berber, Touareg and african. Even the Arabic they speak is different. But down to dogs; North Africa has its sloughis and azawhaks, head east into the Fertile Crescent , Persia, (Iran) and the Arabian peninsula and they have their Salukis, go north a bit into the Caucasus region and you'll find tazi, Afghan hound, go further north into Ru
  6. The Arabian Wolf is the smallest of the wolves. Cheers.
  7. Spains one of the biggest producers of cereal crops, fruit and veg, not to mention wine ?, in Europe. Cheers.
  8. What a silly question ! Of course they hunted for food with their dogs, some Beduin still do, but they don't video it and post it on YouTube ! ? ! I know Arabs that fly their Salukis and falcons to Africa and Pakistan to hunt, but those videos are droppers. Cheers.
  9. Almost every gazelle you see in these videos is a "dropper". We used to fly crateloads of them from Africa to the Middle East for the royals and the rich to course. The don't want the dogs to kill them, just catch them, and they are run numerous times. Most Middle East countries have strict laws about hunting and indigenous animals are protected. Cheers.
  10. No, I knew Paul but never walked out with him. My pal hunted with him a lot, with the dogs and falcons and rated them highly at that. Paul phoned me out of the blue and offered to place a pup with me, but he applied so many conditions I respectfully declined. He was due to stay at my house when we were going to run one of his dogs in a 16 dog stake in Northumberland, but he sadly died shortly before. Cheers.
  11. What did you think of Paul Sagar's pures, mC ? Cheers.
  12. Max Hardcore brought an old coursing bitch out of retirement for one of the lamping competitions, and it retrieved the rabbits to hand as fast as it went out to catch them. ? Cheers.
  13. A "tumbler lurcher" ? Dear god..,...is old Burrell still going ? Best of luck if he is still conning fools out of their money ! Cheers
  14. Rudy writes like the Indian who keeps 'phoning me to say there's a problem with my internet/phone/bank account/electric/gas talks ! ? ! Cheers.
  15. Get your name down for two , Davey ! ? ! Cheers.
  16. A change of scenery is good for the soul........ Cheers.
  17. Your taking the hijacking of your pup thread in good sport, Sheepy ?. Or are you still hoping to join the 100 pager club ? ? Cheers.
  18. Nah....... Baw had a Masters Degree in wind ups, mC is a rank amateur compared to Baw ! ? ! Cheers.
  19. "Scabby" ?, now there's a word I haven't heard for a while ! Cheers.
  20. I'm not disagreeing ? Some people , especially these days, want a whizz banger, on the land, take a hare or two, and off again sharpish, they don't want five minutes runs. No ones right or wrong. It's what works for you. Cheers.
  21. One of the fastest dogs I've seen, which, as is the case with these types, was his undoing......dropped both gracillis, so retired. Cheers
  22. This one also "up north"; Out of Geoff Fletchers breeding, so I can almost guarantee there's a bit of Greyhound in there somewhere ! ? ! Cheers.
  23. Best working KC whippet I've seen, Mally's Vixen. Long gone now, so, no, I'll not be matching anyone with her ? ! She put many long night shifts in lamping in winter, and could kill a hare. Cheers.
  24. Day walking is great, probably my favourite, but I don't allways run them off a slip. If the dog is decent, you can get on a bit of high ground, let the dog quarter the field, nose down, tail up, getting faster and faster as the scent gets hotter, then the inevitable explosion of brown fur as the hare bursts from its seat and then its game on ! You can watch all the fun from your vantage point, but not all dogs will quarter a field finding their own quarry, some are point and slip. All great fun ? Cheers.
