  1. Well, he committed near genocide against the Irish, waged war against the Scots, harried the Catholics and signed king Charles' death warrant, but he wasn't all bad ? Cheers.
  2. We need a new Cromwell ? Cheers.
  3. I subscribe to the "Ceasars Wife" idiom; If you are in a posistion of power, or able to influence those in power, you must be above suspicion ! If the government are flouting rules and laws that they impose on us, they have broken the social contract between the rulers and the ruled. Of course, it happens all the time, but the lockdowns have made people more angry, and rightly so, in my opinion. Boris even refused to attend parliament today to answer an "urgent question" from the opposition, showing he simply doesn't give a shit what people think. Cheers.
  4. A few years back, I was at the feed merchants for poultry food, and the owner told me a Greyhound trainer had ordered a pallet of this, but had let him down. The supplier said it wasn't worth sending it back so just sell it for what you can get. It retailed at £28 but he was selling it for £8. He gave me a bag for free to try it. The dogs looked great on it, even though some people said there was to much protein. Anyway, I went back to buy more, but a lad who worked there an kept coursing dogs had bought the lot ! I think it was made by Alpha, but had the feed merchants label.
  5. Farage is giving out signals that he will be back. He formed the Reform Party, and his pal Richard Tice is the current leader, but Farage is still a member. Reform is currently polling 5-6%, I waouldnt be supprised to see Farage taking a more hands on approach as we get nearer a GE. They'll probably get my vote. Cheers.
  6. They'll pay thousands for a pup, so they'll pay £70 for a bag of food........more money than sense. Cheers.
  7. Personally, I find Boris a huge disappointment. I voted Tory for the first time in my life at the last General Election for two reasons; 1; Boris was the only one who promised to fulfill the mandate of the people and get Brexit Done......which he did. 2; I didn't want a Prime Minister who is a communist, terrorist supporting , Britain hating old fool. Boris's problems are all of his own making. In the Owen Patterson case, he could simply have told him to accept the 30 day suspension, but no, he tried to retrospectively change the law to save his pal. In the Xmas
  8. What exactly does that mean ? Ive had running dogs over 55 years and have only heard it fairly recently, usually from the daywalkers and pikeys ! ? ! Cheers.
  9. Nancy is eight months today, so weighed and measured her. 65lb and 27 3/4". Shes losing her puppy fat and gaining muscle now. She flushed her first roe the other day; nose down, tail up on a "hot scent", then head up "air scenting". She dived into some rough and a roe shot out the other side ! She missed it, but I was pleased with her finding ability, and there will be plenty more opportunities in the future, I'm sure. Cheers.
  10. Bloat does seem more prevalent in pure Deerhounds. A pal of mine lost a pregnant bitch, and a, relatively, young dog to bloat. I think I got lucky with my previous deer/grey bitch, she was still working at 10, developed mammary tumours at 11, which spread to her lungs at 12, leading to me putting her down. Previous to this she never had an illness. My deer/grey pup is going to be a big bitch, I hope I get the same trouble free years from her. Cheers.
  11. You walk your track, I'll walk mine. I appreciate everyone's opinion. Cheers.
  12. Niven wasn't just a great actor, he gave up his Hollywood career to join the British army, and ended up a Colonel in Phantom brigade, a special forces unit. The epitome of the British gentleman ! Cheers.
  13. The pups I was gifted were weened on flesh, chipping, was up to me, they were puppy wormed until I got them. As I said, I don't begrudge people making a bob or two, but there's still lads out there who breed, not for profit, but to keep lines going and to see their pups going to good working homes. Ive had some good bitches I thought of breeding from, but didn't , if I was to breed, it would be for a pup for myself and for lads I knew that would work them. They would be free, any left over would be culled. I would pay any price, within reason, and travel any distance, to get a p
  14. As has been said, Kieth, just f**k them off, threaten THEM that you'll call the police ! ? ! If they don't stop harassing you ! I don't know your accommodation situation, but maybe if it's sheltered accommodation you only need one tv licence for the entire property. Any way, if you get jailed, you'll get free telly, three square a day, free dentistry and glasses........result ! ?? ! Cheers.
  15. £400 a working mans price ? Times have changed. Working bred pups went to working dog men for free, or a price that would cover the breeding and leave a bit for the breeder to have a pint or two. Dont get me wrong, it's a sellers market, and I don't begrudge lads making a bit on selling pups, if it was what I wanted, price wouldn't enter the equation ! My last two dogs, a teckel and a deer/grey, were gifted, because the breeders knew they'd be worked, but I'd have gladly paid the asking price. But I still feel a little uneasy about "working mans price". Just my o
  16. Nivens books are great, especially the bits where he lived at " Chirrosis By The Sea" with Errol Flynn. Cheers.
  17. Both of David Niven's. The moons a balloon, and Bring on the empty horses. Cheers.
  18. If it's becoming so hot, maybe it will cull some of the undesirables and others may rediscover the good old poaching methods ? Cheers.
  19. The bit about the radios reminded of one day myself, LDR and another lad were out for roe. We dropped one lad outside a copse with my old Doberman, and me and Danny posistioned ourselves on the other side with a Bruce and Delta. we radioed the lad and told him to slip the Doberman and she would work the copse. sure enough, two roe flew out. And Bruce was slipped on one, which was pulled in a farm yard. "Bruce has pulled, Bruce has pulled, meet back at the car" Danny called on the radio. The radio then crackelled and a voice came over "This is a restricted Chanel and a
  20. The big deer cross I had, Lima, acted like a dog. She'd mount the other bitches and cocked her leg for a piss Definately an Alpha female. Cheers.
  21. Tim Bonner: Poaching, the Hunting Act and why the hare is the loser WWW.COUNTRYSIDE-ALLIANCE.ORG The Countryside Alliance's Chief Executive, Tim Bonner, discusses recent action from the Government on tackling hare poachers. Cheers.
  22. I'm a believer in the old saying "don't believe anything you're told; and only half of what you see".......especially in the lurcher game ! ??! Ive never bred a litter, so I couldn't speak from personal experience wether bitches are better than dogs in a litter. My last four were bitches, before that I had dogs, not because of any preference, just the way it fell ? Cheers.
  23. Yes, I see you posted the Forley results, that's why I didn't duplicate ? The Derby and Waterloo Cup results are easily found , but they don't specify dog or bitch, and would have to be cross checked with Greyhound Data. Whilst i find it a very interesting subject, I don't want to delve that deeply ? Cheers.
  24. "What's better, dogs or bitches" ? Very thought provoking, for me at least ! With lurchers, I've had both over the years, some good, some bad, both dogs and bitches, so I've no real opinion. I THINK, and I may be wrong, that more dogs than bitches have won the Greyhound Derby. Also, I THINK more dogs than bitches have won the Waterloo Cup. In non-ped Whippet racing, its predominantly dogs that win the scratch races, although there has been some tremendous scratch bitches. Whereas in the yards for pounds racing, when the supreme bitch and dog ran off against each
