I’m not going to comment on Scout, because what I seen out of him was very limited , just a day or two at my place and was no better than my deer crosses, but I know lads with the same breed who worked them and were very happy at the job they did. Cheers.

The last time I seen Paul was at a local show, and I’m ashamed to say I didn’t recognise him ! My mate Gin said “ that’s Paul “ but he had sadly passed by. I consider him a top class lad, knows his dogs ! Cheers.

No mate Paul lives in Blyth , Northumberland, he was Lamp & Battery on here. I went out with him a couple of times and judged his heat in the lamping competition. A top class lad . I, like you, remember Bill using the coursing dog Scout for his “coursing bulls… “ ; here’s a couple I had at my place; Both belonged to MLB and her daughter…. But that’s another story ! LOL ! I honestly don’t know mate, I’m only talking chickens , the first cross seem better producers than the parents; the second cross not as good, but that’s only egg production. Maybe i over think things ? Cheers.

For the last few years I’ve bred my own layers, they are Black Leghorn x Bovan Goldline; both prolific layers and I think I’ve hit on some hybrid vigour and they lay huge eggs every day. I’ve some second generation and they are laying slightly less, smaller eggs ? Can this be correlated to lurcher breeding ? Im also breeding some gamefowl that are massively inbred, it will be interesting to see if they are as good as the original stock . Cheers.

Yes, farmers use chemicals. Right or wrong ? I don’t know enough about it, but they couldn’t grow enough without it. I try to be as “organic” as possible, not because I’m some woke lunatic, it’s all economic to me; I make most of my own compost, I use home made garlic spray on my veg and use beer traps and copper tape for slugs. My poultry is fed on natural food and they have plenty room to forage. Three people I’ve given eggs to today have said they are far better than supermarket eggs. I know it’s on a micro scale, but with allotments we have to rotate crops. Different crops take different nutrients out of the soil, so crop rotation is a must and we have to add different nutrients according to what we want to grow. It must be the same on farms , albeit on a macro scale ? So some years you will have winter wheat; other years you will have spring wheat. Id guess the harvest would be around the same time ? Cheers.

Now this is a complete guess, so please don’t quote me. Perhaps a field has been used for a slow growing crop, so for crop rotation the next year it’s planted with winter wheat. Ir a field had been planted with a fast growing crop, and again , for crop rotation, it’s then planted with spring wheat ? I don’t know mate, but I look forward to someone with more knowledge of the subject informing me ! Cheers.

I don’t know mate, as I said , I’m not a farmer either. I’d guess, but could be wrong, that it’s to get two crops a year. Someone like Don will give a far better answer than me . See, it’s easy to say you don’t know ! LOL ! Cheers.

Neither am I, but as an allotment grower I know there is winter cabbage and spring cabbage I also have a good idea as someone who walks the land what crops are growing and when ! Theres an old saying that goes something like; “ it’s better not to comment, and be thought a fool, than to comment and confirm it” ! LOL ! But don’t worry, I haven’t given up on your education, even though it now seems more of a penance for my past deeds than a charitable contribution ! Cheers.

I’m sceptical, but if the majority of escapees/ releases were “ black panther” or melanistic types, I’d expect the sightings to be of “ big black cats”. Who knows ? I won’t knock the believers, and I’d like to be convinced, but I’m still erring on the sceptical. Cheers.

Get the right quail and they spit the eggs out ! I had four that were laying five eggs per day ! But you do need a dozen for a small omelette. They are also nice boiled in an Indian curry . Cheers.
