As I said; Russia is probably no better or worse than the west in getting involved in conflicts. I was basically countering Francie's statement about the wests invasions of the Middle East, and pointing out Russia has done the same, but in less well known or reported places. Kipling called it "The Great Game"; not much has changed since then. Cheers.

Yes, that's "soft power", much as the Chinese are also doing in Africa. My instances were actual invasions and wars and the annexing of territory. ? Cheers.

Russia has never really seen the Middle East as a "sphere of influence ", although they they have allways wanted a Mediterranean base, have had influence in Egypt and have a big military presence in Syria, supporting the Assad regime. Russia has concentrated on the Caucuses, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. Theyve invaded many countries, some that most people have never heard of or could point to on a map. Checnya, Daghastan, Inigushetia, Georgia and Afghanistan, Crimea. All countries Russia has fought wars with, invaded or annexed in the recent past. So, in terms of interf

There's the financial implication for Russia aswell. They can't keep 60% of their land forces, huge elements of their naval and Air Force at invasion readiness on Ukraines border indefinitely. Troops have to be fed and rotated, naval and air power replenished and serviced. I'd guess Putin would claim a "win" if he got guarantees that Ukraine will not be allowed to join NATO or the EU, but that doesn't seem likely, so it's a bit of a stalemate. The West has to give him a reason to de-escalate without him or the West losing face.......unfortunately, that's how wars start, bri

They've just moved another 7,000 troops to the Ukraine border. Cheers.

I was in the Middle East for 26 years. My son did his schooling there until he was 16, them came back to the UK for boarding school. My daughter did most of her schooling in Saudi and then Dubai. I retired and came home 2004. Cheers.

My son did three years at Ashby-de-la-Zouche grammar boarding school, but I only got down there every three months or so and never got further than the school. Cheers.

An old pal of mine owned Kettlewells Game dealers in the Grainger market in Newcastle. Years ago it had hares, rabbits, pheasants etc hanging up outside, then people started complaining and the game was butchered and vacuum packed on the counter. People would ask "what's that", and when told it was hare or rabbit, they would make a face and walk away ! My pal retired, and now the shop is just a run of the mill butchers shop. Cheers.

The council wanted £25 a year to empty our brown bin, (garden waste), I told them no, come and take the bin away. They never replied or took the bin away, so now it's a compost bin at my allotment, and I take all my grass cuttings there to give to the hens. We were told to put glass in the black box in the blue recycling bin, and plastic in the bin, but I watch them emptying them and they all go in the bin wagon together ! Anything that burns goes to the allotment but we've had a couple of visits from the Environment Agency about burning plastic and rubber, so need to be careful

Not really a discussion I want to get into, as people far more educated on the subject than me cant agree the rise of the Nazis. But the way I see it was the end of WW1 and the Treaty Of Versailles and the reparations the Germans had to pay and the humiliation a proud nation felt, meant they were crying out for a strong leader, and Hitler was a man of his time. He couldn't focus on the Allies or the Russians, as they were the cause of the national humiliation, so he needed some one to blame, and the Jews fitted the narrative. Then the weakness of the victors allowed the German

Was that the one on Newcastle quayside ? Where we hurled abuse at Blair when he arrived at the Sage across the river. I was there, and so was my missus ! Cheers.
-
My missus is from Byker, my brother is from Wallsend, I'm from the posh area, Longbenton ! ?? ! Cheers.

Two of the best places I used to drink in, many years ago, were Conservative Clubs, one in Wallsend and one in Byker, Newcastle. They'd both be full of Labour voting shipyard workers, who cared more about a decent, cheap pint, than politics ! ? Cheers.

When I lived in Saudi, women weren't allowed to drive, weren't allowed to get a passport or travel without a male relatives permission, weren't allowed to go to football matches or sporting events, had separate areas in cafes and restaurants, etc. All changed now, they have jobs, drive, travel. Woke, snowflake Saudis.......who would have thought it ? ? Cheers.

The working men's clubs allways had a no women rule for the bar, until the equalities act came out. Some of the private clubs tried to hold out, but most gave up and allowed women to become "associate members". I remember when Carters Wine Lodge in Newcastle had a women only lounge, and a Labour Club on the outskirts had a men only bar and a women only lounge. Now you can't get moved in most bars and clubs for kids running around ! Cheers.

If it's just an interview, and not a "trade test" , just dress smart/casual. As for the days riding, either wear what you would normally wear or ask the prospective employer what the dress code is ? You wouldn't attend a job interview to be a mechanic in a boiler suit, would you ? Cheers.

I don't know how true it is, but I've heard they let women in bars now ! Cheers.

Never been interested in money for game meat. I'd rather barter it or give it to family, friends and neighbours. My brother is a keen fisherman, both coarse and sea, so, a rabbit, hare or bit of venison gets me trout, cod, mackerel, herring, etc. I can give a bit of meat to lads at the Allotments and get game birds, eggs or chicks. Also, it's just nice to have something in the plus column, give the pensioners some eggs, bit of meat, few veg, and nothing in return ? You have your sport, and you fill your freezer.......win-win ! Cheers.

The pup got her first bit of "wire rash" the other night, on her first slip. Staight down the beam, turned it once and through a wire fence. You could hear the twang in the next county ! Didnt faze her and put in another couple of bends before losing it in a woods. Cheers.

David Baddiel is another calling for Carr to be cancelled, but I watched an old 8 out of 10 cats does countdown, and Baddiel was on with Jimmy Carr. Someone apologised for mentioning pork ( ! ), because Baddiel is a Jew. He said " i'm not that much of a Jew that I can't enjoy a nice pork chop, and anyway my wife is a producer on the Pepper Pig show, so I can't be offended " ! Hipocrytical twat......... Cheers.

He said, " I'm going to talk about the holocaust; six million Jews murdered by the Nazis, a terrible thing, but they also gassed thousands of gypsies, but that's the thing......no one talks about the positives ! " What made me REALLY laugh was Paddy Doherty getting all upset and demanding the police arrest Carr ! ? Imagine that; a p***y wanting the police involved ! We've definitely gone down the rabbit hole when that happens ! Cheers.

I think the "Professionaly Outraged" are a bit late on this one. He said, what some would consider, far worse about gypsies, back when Dale Farm was all over the news, on his 8 out of 10 cats program. If this latest nonsense wasn't linked to the holocast, we wouldn't have been aware of it. If you ban the likes of Carr and Chubby Brown, where does it lead ? Nish Kumar and other woke, anti Tory, anti Brexit "comedians" are all that would be left ! Cheers.

That's a wonderful colour coat ? Almost like an African Wild Dog ; Cheers. -
The west did nothing when Russia annexed Crimea, and they'll do nothing if Russia annexes northern and eastern Ukraine. Its only if Russia invades a NATO country that article five of the NATO Treaty would come into play, and even then the Germans and the French wouldn't honour their commitment. Half of Ukraine think they are Russian anyway, it's a regional thing, let them sort it out, and NATO and the EU should make it clear that Ukraine will not be invited to join either. Cheers.
