You're reading things into my post I didn't say. I didn't say YOU said NATO would split, I'm inferring that their are politicians in the EU that would like to leave NATO and replace it with a EU Army. In MY opinion, a EU Army, outside of NATO, and without US/UK support, would have neither the military capability or political will to oppose a Russian invasion of a EU member country. They have been extremely reluctant to meet their financial obligations to NATO up to now. Of course the invasion of Ukraine may change that, but who knows. Also, would a France, in a EU army, bu

I disagree, Article Five is only guaranteed by Americas , and to a far lesser but hugely important UK, military might. A split between a EU Army and a US/UK/Canada alliance, would leave the latter vastly the more powerful of the two and the former reluctant or powerless to implement their own Article Five. The EU will probably have their own military alliance, but will allways be subservient to NATO in a major conflict. As usual, just my opinion and conjecture ? Cheers.

I think the Russian invasion of Ukraine may have changed the minds of a few anti NATO EU leaders. They will look to the war games going on around Norway, led by the US and the UK, and realise without NATO, they couldn't muster enough troops, aircraft, armour, ships, etc, they couldn't stop Russia. They will continue to make noises about an EU Army, but it would allways need the NATO umbrella. Cheers.

I agree. The NATO doctrine of an expected Russian armoured blitzkrieg through Ukraine, Poland and Germany is now dead in the water ! The Russians performance in Ukraine shows that NATO air power and off shore cruise missiles would quickly halt any Russian armoured advance. Cheers.

I think Putin will start looking for a way out without losing face. Theres a lot going on diplomatically, Zelensky and Putin have agreed to meet, and the Americans are meeting with the Chinese in Rome Also, Putin can't keep throwing hundreds of Russian protesters into jail without the majority of Russian people asking what's going on ? Plus the fact Riussia is taking far heavier losses than expected and hasn't got the momentum they thought they would have. But who knows, he's allways got the option of escalation with the use of WMD's Its all just conjecture. Cheer

Not that interested in Crufts, but I was channel surfing and saw it was the hound group, so watched it. The winner, Greyhound, and reserve, Whippet, were exactly what I expected, show dogs with no visible definition. It was interesting to see some of the more "exotic" hounds though, like the podenco, sloughi, Ibizan, pharaoh , etc, but I doubt they could be of any use lurcher breeding. They also showed the Terrier winner, an Irish Terrier, and I thought it was a terrible example of the breed; no substance to it, skinny, gangly and snipey, looks like another breed ruined by the

I like the postman analogy ? It sums up some people who see "conspiracy" in everything, even the most mundane, everyday events. Of course governments lie to us, allways have, allways will, but I doubt the entire worlds governing classes are conspiring to kill us all off with a man made virus........who would do the work and pay the taxes that supports them ? I got carried out of a British Consulate, blind drunk, after a Scottish pal and I bunged the Indian barman to make sure our glasses were never empty. I got a Marine escort out of an American embassy when I nutted an ex fiancé of my daughters. Funnily enough I didn't get banned from either and was welcomed back many times. I was a lot younger and sillier back then ! Cheers.

I worked for a Sheik one time, and his "fixer" was an old school tie ex diplomat. He invited me for dinner, and afterwards asked if I'd care for a brandy coffee. I said could you put the brandy in a glass and the coffee in a cup , as mixing them spoils good coffee and brandy ? I was never invited back ! ? Cheers.
