I'm an oldie, so I no longer want (or need) to freelance,...but, in the past, I have experienced hassle from a few misguided fellows, who vigorously offered,.. to either take my dogs from me, or shoot them....? This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable.... Over the years I have noticed, that the penalties for having a walk out, have slowly but surely been getting far harsher. I've always paid my dues and somehow, found the vonga, to pay my fines, and of course, I have been handed out several thrashings....mostly well deserved..? But,.. I always believed that such e

You are correct TOMO,...I seem to have grown up hearing those fecking words,.. "Dik Ki, my Chavy, we better jal on .. the Gavvers are coming"...?

For a Southern OAP,.the Heather moorland sure takes some handling,..? It is such a physical effort and comes as a shock,...I guess ya need to become used to walking over such a terrain. The bonus for me is in the sheer diversity of wildlife that you encounter... Hopefully one day, I can take another stroll with my wee cur,...she loved her first, and only mouch...?

This has turned into an amazingly lengthy thread? The subject is obviously very important to a lot of guys.. I've scant understanding of these phenomenal coursing dogs,...but my close friend has an almost Encyclopedic knowledge of both the early breeding, and the contemporary bloodlines... He is kind enough to educate me when the fancy takes him,..alas, I make a poor pupil...? What I have noticed, is that these stunning canine athletes are starting to become, a recognisable type.. It is obvious that a certain specific appearance and physicality, suits the tasks laid be

I've seen a few similar types... Looks to be a Pyecombe Crook...the Sussex Downland Shepherds used to carry them... I could have bought several, over the years, wish that I had now? You still see the odd one, on the wall of country Pubs..?

?That jukel looks to be a typical old style, South Downland cur,.. and it looks near as dammit, to a Smithfield type as I've seen..?

? Well,.. I reckon that Tay was a real good Hard Blood whippet,.. a genuine animal, owned by a genuine enthusiast...? RIP Mr Fletcher?

? You are quite right there Guss. Facts are,.. some folks should not bother with ferrets, (or dogs for that matter..)? These critters just ain't for them,.. and when things become difficult or their enthusiasm wanes,.. the poor animals frequently suffer. Hopefully, you will reassure the ferret that life really ain't all bad,.. but, do be prepared for, a less than reliable final conclusion....? Keep at it,.. all the best,.. OldPhil..?

? I used to ferret for rabbits, five days a week, for many, many years...I also snared, trapped, netted and lamped the cony, on most suitable nights... It was my job....and some weeks, the catch was in hundreds... Originally, my life had turned full circle, and I went from freelancing, to being paid per day/week , for using the ferrets and dogs, for a wage. It was a crazy situation, fecking unbelievable,...but I loved it...? Then, Farmers started to take note of the Ministry of Agriculture,.. and they became duped into thinking that the old ways were inefficient,.. so,.. w

Aye,.. and "ya ain't got to feed a trap"....?

? Yeah,.. I find that I am saying it, more and more , especially to close friends.... I have no problems in passing on my concerns, nor do I feel any embarrassment in doing so...? At my age,...most of my old pals have passed away,...so I am keen to hold on to the few friends I have left... Nothing wrong in the statement,...just as long as you mean it....? Have a good Xmas lads,.. and I hope and pray that the coming year, will be a better one... Warmest regards, to all genuine Goodfellas,...stay safe ,...OldPhil.?

Ken,..do you remember the Aldrich Foot Snare, for Large Non-Indigenous Species...? When I was at the Ministry Headquarters, fighting my case to get the Body grippers passed, for use in the UK? I was enquiring as to WHY they had passed the Aldrich for use, but were giving me hassle with the Body grip and Kania 2000 ? "There are no big critters running wild in the UK, now are there ffs".... The silence was deafening,...and it made me wonder.....?

Not sure Micky,..? I've seen so many crazy creations over the years,.. but very few made by trappers,...mostly madcap engineering projects... Perhaps this is why only a few Spring Traps were passed by the Ministry,.. the rest were simply too complicated and costly to produce.. I quite liked using the Original Rabbit Fenn,..it seemed to catch fairly well..?

Amazing technical drawing Comanche? Loads of strange traps around at that time..?

Fair old roustabout crew there,...they look up for anything..?
