  1. ? I guess the guy has got his own reasons,...I suppose it all depends on where you have lived, and what you have personally experienced. Wolves, and wild dogs, can certainly present major problems to a livestock keeper... I've no feelings either way, regarding these amazing wild creatures,.. but I bet our skinny lurcher curs would pretty soon end up mullered, if we had Wolves prowling around our yards, at night... It must be emotional, waking up, to find your pet jukel ragged about, and left in several pieces? My missus would go fecking mad

Did six wasp nests, in the old Keeper's Bothy, at Stanstead Estate last season... When I was crawling around the roof space, I noticed a pile of Gamekeeper and Countryside magazines. There must have been hundreds of the feckers! A few years ago, I would have been ultra-keen to peruse them, but now,...I don't seem to have the interest in such things.? Shame really, because the loft was moving with mice, so I reckon all that ancient paper will make some grand nests... Epic old Magazine,...I used to love it...?
  3. I rate Cats as being, superlative, natural hunters? I remember taking two beautiful racing Greyhounds to be lined, by a top class Working Sheepdog... We were down in darkest, rural Wales on a Sheep Farm, and the owner kept some tremendous working herders,...but he also earned a few quid by breeding a litter or two, of truly exceptional Bengal Cats. These amazingly primitive felines were fearless, and the dogs accepted them,.. and everyone got on great. So, we got the lurcher deed done, and returned home with a brace of well served gazehounds, but, I've always wished, that
  4. A lot of the Nomad's jukels have cropped ears....their job is to see off, and frequently kill, Wolves and stray dogs,..? I guess the owners feel that 'ears off' helps the dog in a rough and tumble scrap... All I know is,. .these feckers would just as soon as bite ya, as they would the enemy,...and when travelling in remote villages, it was frequently, emotional...?
  5. Well, the young guy certainly looks as 'fit as a Buck Rat' ,...as were many of us, in our time....? No, the thing that made me slightly curious was,...if I was to wander around the countryside for 30 or 40 miles ( and I've never lamped that distance, on foot) I would expect to be killing, a massive amount of game....and if not,. then surely, it is a totally wasteful exercise, and surely more akin to being,.. an after dark,.. rambling enthusiast...? As for being on foot,.. yes, I agree that if it comes on top,.. a sensible guy can often slink away, and escape detection. Once the
  6. Brave gal,.. I wish you and her, good fortune ?
  7. Well, I would have to agree with you as regards those comfortable, La Chamois Wellies,. they are very nice things?
  8. How could a lamping man walk that distance at night, carrying several Roe and dozens of rabbits...?
  9. Lovely looking animal....beautiful in fact..?
  10. ? IF I was you,...and we are,.. almost Brethren....? I would go for the Executive Chair.....I found mine down the Local Amenity Tip and paid the Skip Wallah, a Tenner...? Before I found this Black beauty, my back played up something terrible.... Ya got to have a bit of comfort at our age Brother....?
  11. ? I reckon its entirely,.. a personal choice,...some dogs take to the working free, style of lamping, whilst others probably never will...I much prefer a bit of free walking, especially when there are loads of obstacles to surmount, but you got to go with the flow,...and treat each dog different...?
  12. Ye cannot talk dogs, or Politics,... on the Internet,....and,.. now ya know....?
  13. Goodonya fellah,...I couldn't do it, but you did? I'll raise a glass to David,...a genuine Goodfella..?
  14. Cat are phenomenal hunters,...I really rate their primitive skills... My all -time favourites are Bengals,.. real deal, wildlings,.. maybe some day I'll have enough vonga to buy myself a quality kit..
  15. Yeah,..? I think we all used SA37 for our running dogs, I certainly did pump it into the race dogs, the Greyhounds and the Whippets,. plus a whole lot of other, crazy additives, magic potions and mixes..? We genuinely believed in them, and when we won, we believed in them, even more.? AS too whether these vitamins and chemical concoctions, went in one end, and straight out the other,.. feck knows... Personally, when I was killing rabbits in quantity,.. I initially fed my poor jukels on Vitalin....! Crazy,.. I know,. but back then,.. we just did not know....?
  16. Well done fellah,...onwards and upwards..?
  17. Some of the New Forest Reds are huge...? Easy living I guess..?
  18. The slip leads, were basically, a wide Leather collar , with two separate eyelets. The thin leather circular lead, was knotted on one end of the collar, and the slack was threaded through the eyelet. You held the lead, and as the dog pulled away, the complete set-up stayed gripped in your hand. The dog could then run free,..no collar .. My apologies for the poor description of what in truth was, a childishly simple idea,. but, it was 35 years ago? Plus,...I am not good at describing such things....? I'm sure that you canny guys can soon work out the principle..
  19. Hi there,...yeah,..as I've stated, I liked David,.. he was a kind hearted soul, and back in those days, I really needed,.. a few folk like him...? However, I was not really sold on Slip leads, as my rabbiting curs were pretty well schooled, so I just didn't use them very much... All the best, OldPhil.?
  20. The Fallow Rut can sure get rough?
