Think we’re all the same this time of year. Septembers like a summer month now though, get as much done as I can but it’s never a lot on account of the hard ground and the heat.

Good point at the start of the post, there’s all kinds of game to be found in huge numbers in this country. You just need to be keen enough to jump in your car and go get it. No use complaining about low numbers when there’s rabbits out there to be had & you just can’t be bothered to travel for them. Usually find as well by the time someone’s complained for hours & spent ages walking empty local fields they could’ve driven a few hours and had some good sport.

I think he meant before as in hours before, not feed at 10pm and head out at quarter past. If I’m estimating my first run about 7am I’ll feed at 9pm. Full meal with extra fats, then when I get back I’ll give a bigger portion with extra red meat. Back to normal feeding the next day, always keeping fat content high it’s the most important part. Lamping same principle really if I’m planning first run about 12 I’ll feed a full meal at 2pm etc etc. Main meal would be beef, chicken & tripe warmed in slow cooker for half an hour with some lard added in & a couple bits of brown -
Fair play to him if more people were like that the dog world would be a better place

Twice, can’t get enough food in to them if you’re running them hard. Feed different meals pre & post running though. -
It’s different for me I don’t have any permission so it’s purely sporting. We rotate as best we can and give places a bit of a rest so everything doesn’t end up getting pushed about and going all scatty. I’ve worked on farms & sporting estates when I was younger so I know what it’s like got no problems with denting numbers when they become a real hazard but youll know yourself some people just go on a free for all every time they get out the motor. Heard a keeper say before they’d totally wiped out the rabbit population because “the raptors come for the rabbits and stay for the grouse

You’re right what you’re saying about farmers wanting them gone etc. It’s the same way a lot of grouse keepers want rabbits, whites and deer gone from their moors. So in that case you’re right to take them because if you don’t they’ll get the rifle boys in. It doesn’t make it right though, thats why people complain. If you lay it bare they’re trying to eradicate a species from an area for financial benefit. It’s no different to bulldozing nice green fields to build houses. They’re manipulating a landscape to fill their pockets. If you’re a proper dog man and love the countryside that’ll n

The introduction of NV & Thermal optics is playing a big part, this goes for rabbits, mountain hares and brown hares. They’re being hit harder than ever before. People need to show a bit of voluntary restraint but sadly can’t see that happening, financial gain & bragging rights are too important.

Think a few quid from the game dealer is a motivation for a lot of them tbh, to cover their fuel, dog food etc so I don’t think many will be keen on releasing them.
-
Just an observation, not a rabbit man myself, but a lot of the men that hunt rabbits seem to try & take the maximum number possible every time out, then complain about the lack of rabbits. Makes no sense to me.

What dogs everyone running this coming season

Is the father a 1/2 cross collie grey John or bred more to the collie side? -
Ffs not you again ?

I think the reason you maybe see less of the type in your picture is because they’re not as versatile as some people would like. The racier ones could turn their hand to a few different jobs and that probably suits more people these days. Those types are obviously perfect for you but if a man likes the odd run at a hare or to take home some venison he’ll need more of a runner like the red and white dog.

Old saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder, some people like dogs that look like collie marked greyhounds & to these people they are proper collie greyhounds. You like dogs that look like pure collies and to you, they are proper collie greyhounds. Some people might like a mix between the 2, nobodies right or wrong just preference. For me if they’re working dogs, the one that’s better at its job is the proper one.

You’d think so wouldn’t you, but as usual we need to be reminded if it’s not coursing bred it’s not worth talking about
-
I bet you’re one of them that raves about fen hares as well you’ve just got that type written all over you ?
-
Fair play you’ve got this shit talking down to a fine art. Let me know when you’re breeding a litter I could do with one of these fox killing, fallow buck smashing Salukis
-
A lot of people take a dislike to a cross and just talk pure shit about them, and the same people usually like another cross & wont accept they’ve got any faults at all. That’s where it just gets silly and to be honest not worth listening to. This threads gone like that now

Can’t beat a bit of early stock breaking. Best of luck with the pup it’s a stunner

I’ve met some very good dog lads in their 20s I think the daft ones will always be daft no matter what age they get to. Endless amounts of work to be had for a lurcher if you’re keen enough to go and look for it. You’ll never get through to the kennel blind types they always know best it’s just better letting them crack on.
-
Drop them off to him you’re not busy ?
-
He’s changed his mind he’s doing the mating now ?
-
I’m sure someone would gift you a lurcher pup if they’ve got one spare, bound to be someone, still decent lads out there not interested in money, best of luck & hopefully you get something soon.
