  1. Sounds like he needs some easy ones to get his confidence up, sounds like he only does it if he thinks hes going to miss it
  2. Always the same, its heaving in Summee and they're gone but the time the season starts. Thoroughly disheartening.
  3. That pic is really special, deserves a frame and a place on your wall.
  4. Well done lads, you'll be hooked now! You cant beat bolting to the dogs!
  5. Not cheap though, his set up was a grand.
  6. I've used one quite alot. Pulsar digital scope of my mates rifle. its no good single handed but with one spotting with the scope and the other running the dog its pretty good. Getting the communication right is vital but once you've got it sussed it works a treat. It means the lamps only on for the actual run, no scanning the field so more subtle.
  7. I still say dont worry about the finder, just concerntrate on the collars. It really pisses me off the price of them and how shit they are. The last lot that fell to bits i sent back to deben, they said they couldnt repair them and offered to sell me some more! The collars werent even two seasons old!
  8. Have a look through some of my old bushing posts. Herdwicks bitch is bred exactly that way, shes the rough haired one
  9. Good write up mate, enjoyed that
  10. I posted on here for someone to take me and the mutts out on Monday morning, I had travelled up to Yorkshire for a funeral and had a spare couple of hours before hand. Deep Earth kindly offered to take me out and I picked him and his friend up first thing in the morning. The plan was to wander round some permission letting the dogs, Willow and Ollie, hunt up and then use the ferrets to bolt anything that was put to ground. We were a long way from home and the dogs were a bit put out by the different terrain, they had never seen the dales, the stone walls, the reed beds etc and were far
  11. I have a bitch here with a toe amputated on both front and back same side. I pretty much retired her because of it but she mooches well on excersize and still picks up a few bits and pieces. I dont think she'd hold up to a full nights lamping though so i dont test her.
  12. I'd rather you designed cheaper, better collars to work with the finders.
  13. Looks a lovely part of the world and a good day out. I hope the weather is the same for Monday! ATB
  14. I am just talking about a mooch on footpaths, nothing major. I dont know the area, thats why some local company would be handy.
  15. I have a funeral to go to on Monday afternoon and will be staying in Skipton on Sunday night. I will have a couple of dogs with me and wondered if anyone fancied a walk out on Monday morning?
  16. Its great to see them learn, the more they see the better they get - hopefully!
  17. The weathers been absolutely perfect all week, blowing a gale and drizzling nicely but i didnt manage to get out til last night as my wifes still struggling with her broken leg and needed a bit of TLC. Blackstaff has been in the same boat due to early starts so we decided to get out for a quick shine last night. The weather wasnt as good as the last few days but wasnt bad. We went to a bit of ground i've only been on once this season. The rabbits werent out in force on most of the ground but a couple of fields gave us good sport with rabbits far out in the field. We had about five runs
  18. Very nice, i spent a while in texas years ago and the size of the open space has to be seen to be believed when you come from the uk. Never met any hunters though so didnt get to make the most of it really
  19. She has lovely tight feet, should stay sound on them
  20. Very nice mate, sounds like a good day
  21. If it was my dog i would stop lamping and concerntrate on the training in the daytime. Once you have that done and then start with some retrieving at night using a dummy somewhere where theres no scent or other distractions. Once the idea that lamps go on dogs goes, lamp goes off dog comes back is instilled and the retrieving is good then try on the lamp again. I would also avoid going with anyone else or any other dogs until the dogs running right. No distractions no pressure just you and the dog. Just my opinion. Good luck.
  22. Yeah, we must. I dont really mind the odd blank day, its nice to be out but, wouldn't want it to happen regularly!
