On impulse I took a ferret in the stealh box, a handful of nets and Willow with me this morning on the way to a job I was doing with Blackstaff. Once we'd finished, a bit later than expected, I went for a wander round the woods. The bracken was high and wet but Willow soon marked a bury that looked unused to me, she was convinced though so I started netting up. She was 100% correct as half way through setting the six nets i'd brought a rabbit bolted from an unetted hole a vanished into the bracken. Rabbits 1 - Me 0. I put down the last three nets and dropped Weasle in but, predictably ther

Same old story, yet another f*****g idiot with a dog they cant control. You cant blame the man who killed it but you cant really blame the dog either. The daft mare who owned it, however, is totally at fault and yet has come out of the whole business unscathed. She will no doubt now be looking on e pups for another puppy to ruin while totting up what she can make by selling her story to the papers..

I use a tool box with a partition as a double box, never had a problem with condensation. It does have ply interior lids so I can i open each section individually, maybe that helps? I've used it for the last three seasons and thinks its ideal. Very good in the rain no water gets in and I've never seen any condensation on it even after the ferrets have been put away wet.

I enjoyed reading that, thats dedication getting up again after you've turned in for the night!

Well done mate and good write up too.

Love the look of that dog, you ever had him out on the lamp? Yeah, he lamps well too. Not as fast top end as my other lurchers but agile as a cat and turns on a penny. He can everything a good lurcher can do pretty much. Handy little dog then, how tall is he? 21 1/2 tts

first shine of the season and broke the lamp

What a b*****d, I done the same a few years ago. Walked to permission, flicked on lamp and battery dead in ten mins, walked back got spare battery, an hour later banged the lamp head on a gate and blew the bulb, walked back and got the spare lamp. Lots of walking for not many rabbits. Was like something out of the three stooges! -
Cheers lads, looks like it could be a busy few weeks! It looks sore doesn't it?

Very sad. Sorry to hear that.

Just ate the mushrooms in a bolognese, would have been nice with venison mince but i've been slacking a bit so it had to be beef. You just cant beat those field mushrooms, a totally different flavour to supermarket ones.

My wife broke her leg falling of her horse last sunday so its been a bit of a hectic week daily trips to and from the hospital plus dealing with dogs house etc. Two operations later she came home from hospital on friday so i thought I wouldnt be out at all with the dogs this weekend. I was chuffed to bits when she said she was happy to stay at home alone this morning once i'd set her up on the sofa with the remote, breakfast and a cup of tea. I took Parker, my jrtxwhippet, and Ollie, my mongrel terrier, I left the two lurcher bitches at home to keep the numbers more sensible. I met herdwic

We were out with the hounds last christmas eve, there must have been forty of the things. I dont think i've ever been to a meet without some of them lurking about. Filthy b*****ds all dressed up in black with video cameras and smug grins on their faces. I cannot stand them but they are just out to wind you up by getting in your face, all they want is a slap so one of the others can get on camera and your screwed.

This is mine, jrtxwhippet. Hes about five now and knows his business round a bury.

As has been said, one dog at a time and get the basic training sorted first. Theres a good post on here somewhere about training a lamping dog, well worth searching and having a read.
-
I suppose it depends on personal experience, I have little bother working the lurchers as long as im sensible but the packs local to me can barely draw breath without the antis videoing it. At the end of the day we all got shafted and in fighting helps no one.
-
Oh, just the lads that work them then? I've heard the "class war" crap spouted by the antis enough times without hearing it from hunters too. Just for the record i only follow hounds a few times a year, i'd sooner be out with the lurchers. I just cant stand that kind of stereotyping.
-
You sound as daft as they do. Have you ever actually been out with hounds?
-
Yet another good post Leveller, you're starting to make us all look bad!

Its that fella again.........................

Could try it in the winter, just a thought? -
IMO theres nothing wrong with a dog that holds a netted rabbit as long as its not crunching it. Theres plenty of times when your alone doing hedges or thick bits that you can lose rabbits by not being able to get to them fast enough. It all depending on the type of ferreting you do i suppose. The only downside is that they may miss a bolter while they're holding but one in the hand is worth two in the bush and all that lol Lovely pics by the way leveller.

Nine posts and you've already managed to make yourself look an utter prick, that might be some kind of record. Well done
