  1. Like has been said go alone or get someone decent to go out with. A good night out with someone sensible and reliable takes some beating but i'd rather go alone than be messed about
  2. I've looked at loads online and been in a couple of shops, got my eye on one, will have to wait and see. I'll keep you posted
  3. I do costs a fortune but worth it, whisky for the farmers and wine for the horsey folk!
  4. Fingers crossed for you Brimmer, hope he makes a come back
  5. Why is this thread even in the working section? Put it in the discussion section with all the other "hypothetical" threads
  6. I want to buy a tweed jacket as above, cant spend mega money so no new musto etc but dont want cheap shit either. What have you worn and what do you recomend? Cheers
  7. Can you tell us more about the lurcher work side of what you do please?
  8. I think you'll find i wasnt defending canned hunting at all, i also do not think that is what the OP is offering. Neither would i defend some of the practices carried out in this country which are seen by the general public as hunting. Basically you cannot write off any type of hunting based upon the actions of the degenerate few. It would be like saying everyone with an air rifle spends their time shooting cats in gardens or swans in the park or everyone with a lurcher runs deer down with subarus beforing heaving a bullx out the window. Yes, it does happen but its not how the majority of hunt
  9. I've always fancied a labx not to a greyhound but to a fast type lurcher bitch. If my 2 y/o bitch carries on well it is something i would consider in the future as i have an excellent sire in mind
  10. Buy a couple off a keeper, it'd be far easier than trapping
  11. Im out with Blackstaff and the dog in question regularly. He was bred by Blackstaff, a grew over his staff bitch and both he and his litter sister do all thats asked of them
  12. The only reason i asked is that in my experience, and yes I have pot hunted and worked briefly on a hunting concession in mozambique, hunting in Africa is as varied as hunting is over here. Obviously the canned hunts happen but the other side of the coin are the very large managed hunting concessions that rely on the sale of trophy hunts to maintain themselves. They obviously provide important habitat for the entire eco system in exchange for the loss of low numbers of individual animals. I guess what im trying to say is that its best to base opinions on either experience or genuine inform
  13. Has anyone commenting actually been big game hunting?
  14. Well done Joe, looks like a nice bit of ground you have there. Good picture too.
  15. No, its all banned there except earth work apparently. Thats why they were so keen to make the trip
  16. I really enjoyed that, well written and sounds like a really good day out
  17. Would you be interested in selling it? Alternatively some purse nets?
  18. I would also be interested in a trip if one is being arranged?
  19. Its bad, rabbits seem to be vanishing year by year.
  20. Back on topic if anyone is plannjng a trip i would be interested, either to watch or take the dogs out there
  21. I dont doubt what you say Helen, there are despicable people all over the world, but i think you should be careful of tarring a whole country with the same brush. If you believed what LACS say about us then we are no better. In reality there are many people who care about the welfare of their hunting dogs but, sadly, some who treat them barbaricaly. In my experience its better to take each person as an individual and judge them on their own merits
  22. Thats it, no need for me to do all the write ups any more! Nicely written mate!
  23. Good read, its not always about numbers. Well done the pup
  24. Had a few crap sessions over the past week, crap weather, driving miles to permission and a general lack of rabbits being to blame so was a bit fed up. I've been ferreting and ratting some ground that i asked for the lamping for and was knocked back a few years ago but its on the doorstep and i know from ferreting that it holds a few so i thought i'd try asking the farmer again and ...... BINGO! New lamping permission 5 minutes from home with rabbits!!! I had a busy evening last night and im off to work in a minute so only got out for an hour late last night. The weather was spot on, altho
