  1. always liked the look of that little dog ?
  2. this one has been marking since six and a half months old. really surprised me how good her nose is.
  3. well this is my first whippet. there is some difference. I think beddywhippets can be a bit stubborn. individual dogs vary a bit. one thing I have found with the first cross is they can be a bit sensitive. they certainly wouldn't respond well to the big stick, raised voice type of people.
  4. I have had several beddywhippets, both first cross and line bred. some have thrown more to the beddy and some more to the Whippet in both temperament and looks. it's pot luck in my opinion, can't see this cross being any different.
  5. I know you feel like that now, and it's good to concentrate on other things. but you always come back to it in some shape or form. true dog men country pursuit men (which I believe you are). it never leaves you. when you are out and about and see a lurcher, terrier etc, you think to yourself, that looks a little cracker I wonder if it works. same when you are traveling somewhere, you look at fields and think I wonder if there's anything on. I think we are all the same ?
  6. numbers have been poor for years here. I mainly mooch, foraging I call it. always have a catty in my pocket, sometimes take a ferret and half a dozen nets. sometimes gat a rabbit and a pheasant, other times a squirrel and a pigeon, lot of times fxxck all. I am going to have a shine this autumn, first time I will have lamped in nearly 30 years. this whippet pup has given me the enthusiasm to have a run. but the biggest factor in it all is. I am enjoying it ?
  7. I come up to Northumberland once or twice a year with the missus and dogs, mainly walking etc, good numbers at Wooler over last couple of years.
  8. I watched that when I was still at school ?
  9. coming up to 9 months old on Sunday. progressing well, hunting, marking etc, not run anything yet but very early days.
  10. I can remember the gamekeeper and countryside mag, used to read it in the school library. I first started reading the shooting news in 84 when I was a striking miner. a bloke used to pass them on to me.
  11. talking of Fred j Taylor, does anyone remember the program heart of the country? used to come on in midweek.
  12. it was a bit too upper-class for me mate. I have read articles by BB, and admit to enjoying them but he was a prep school, boarding school hooray Henry in my limited opinion.
  13. it certainly was Phil. it was the only thing we could get worth reading for a lot of what I would call working class lads. we viewed the shooting times as the other side of the fence. also we were glued to the classified section as pups, ferrets etc, there wasn't the wide ranging market of today's Internet.
  14. you never seem to be able to find them. popular years ago, fox terrier x whippet, staff x whippet, Russell x whippet. always fancied one but never available. I now have a whippet bitch so the world could be my lobster (Arthur would say). it would seem a lot of effort as I am no dog breeder.
  15. find the little beddy crosses ideal for the catty.
  16. same around here mate. not many rabbits but roe numbers have exploded. we never saw deer as kids now they are everywhere. just as I have broke the beddywhippet to them the young whippet is fxxcker for them.
  17. I only have nick hegarty frames, find them spot on with precise bands and. 9.5mm steel. always shoot ttf, I think there is far more hand slap with ott ?
  18. apparently its now called weston Park Country fair and its on September 17th and 18th.
  19. 9.5mm steel. only have nick hegarty frames. .65 precise and sumeike. find it a good combination for squirrels and pigeons.
  20. the beddywhippet was called fielder.
  21. I think you're right about pester it was a lakeland x whippet. ir it's the chap I am thinking about was his name George hogg?
  22. one of mine hasn't, the other has both 4 years old
