  1. I really don’t want to shoot it bad enough to have to smell like it ? I’d never be allowed back in the house
  2. After receiving a message from longshanx earlier today asking if I wanted a trap to the stables with him as the lad there had contacted him saying he had a problem fox, I thought it would be rude not to as it’s 5 minutes from my front door. I met him there a little before 8 and we hatched our plan, a walk to the top field and set the caller half way down the field and stud in the corner, it was a cock pheasant that gave the fox up, as I glassed towards the distressed bird I spotted the ginger trotting towards the cub distress call, as longshanx dusted off the .308 the fox suddenly stopped and
  3. I haven’t really got anything to add to this as SL has covered it, just to reiterate, do it discreetly, the amount of people that get upset about this type of pest control is crazy, I have some ponds I control them on and if it’s duck season I use the shotgun over the ponds and take a few lag along with the Canada’s, if it’s out of season and pure pest control I use everything from the .22 to the .243 on the fields, the only thing I won’t use is the .17hmr because it goes straight through them
  4. It’s just to much magnification ?
  5. Up at the shoot again, managed to get another ride cut, time seems to be ticking away and there’s still a lot to do before the birds come I brought the hatstand semi with me to have a go at the pigeons but with this wind they are wings back and gone, I connected with 2 for about 12 shots, I did manage this skinny rabbit that bolted from the wheat, so that’s gone in one of the traps i came across are pheasant nest, surrounded by feathers, it had nested no more than 5 meters from a badger set, they really are thick
  6. I used to work for Iveco / fiat professional and with dealer software it’s really easy to clock them, the only way you could tell if they had been clocked was if you did it connected to their server in Italy, but there was a way around doing this without connecting to the server, with some manufacturers you can do them without dealer software, some register it on the vehicle ecu ( flight recorder ) but 90% of diagnostic won’t read this, you would need VAG to read a Passat, that’s if they use flight recording software in their ECU’s
  7. That’s a cracking couple of hours out, nice work ?
  8. They should spend some time with me, I’m living proof that this is not the case, I’m permanently financially embarrassed ??
  9. I was bothered about meat damage with the ballistic tip, them sako 70’s just make a mess, if I’d of head shot it my mate would of never spoken to me again and a neck shot didn’t seem right, I like the idea of going there looking for it with the proper gear for the job
  10. When he glassed it, he got all excited about the size and condition of the beast and how identical the tines were, for me I’m not interested in trophy’s, I more interested in filling my fat face ?
  11. Although pheasant are not native and can hoover up a large amount of natural food, if a shoot is managed properly, having the birds there in my opinion does more good than harm, I’m still feeding now, from last season, admittedly only in 2 feeders but the amount of native bird life that use these feeders is amazing and when times are lean this wouldn’t happen if the land wasn’t used for shooting, the badgers on the other hand are so abundant they are having a detrimental effect on the other wildlife, for every fox I see I will see 6 badgers, I would never want to see a British native wiped out
  12. This is just my opinion but the spread of TB is the smallest part of the badger problem, what bothers me is how many of them there is around the land I shoot, they have no predators, they are extremely destructive and kill and eat anything they can. I don’t think I’d like to see them on the pest species list, but they should be managed, we manage deer, we control foxes, rabbits, pigeons, squirrels etc, so why not badgers, for the good of the environment not just for the farmers
  13. Had a walk around the sheep farm again last night, just to get out the house for a bit, in between dodging the showers me and little Hugo’s dad shot a few hoppers, before we came across a stunning looking roe doe as we were watching her Andy said by the way she’s moving she’s got a follower, ( he knows a bit about deer ) sure enough a minute or two later a buck came to the top of the hill and Andy got all excited “ that’s at least a silver “ means nowt to me, I’m more interested in eating it, so with a .243 stuffed with 70gn ballistic tips we decided not to shoot, they may well be another tri
  14. Never had a loose mod but did once leave a caller on the roof of the motor and set off home, 3 mile down the road and then smash, I thought I know what that is, oh well, nothing a roll of gaffer tape didn’t sort out ?
  15. I use the trigger sticks all the time, they were definitely money well spent, I keep trying to get little Hugo’s dad to use them but he’s obsessed with his dog sh*t wooden chop sticks, that are ideal for standing if you know exactly where something is coming from but if you need to move you make so much noise you might as well just shout over to it and ask if it minds standing still while you get ready to shoot it. As for prone, since I past 40 I’d probably just nod off ?
  16. I wasn’t going to mention this, but when I went to the shoot this morning I took the little.22 with me for some squirrel ? bashing, pulled into the shoot and there was a little gray bast*rd on the track, I grabbed the rifle and noticed there was no bolt in it. So the answer to your question is I hit f*ck all, I’m not saying I would of hit anything anyway but at least I could of made a noise ?
  17. They are all slinky to me, they are far cleverer than I am ? nice work Bernard ?
  18. To right I am, that’s why I shoot very few bambi, I never seem to have the time to butcher them and after I’ve been let loose on the gralloch you probably wouldn’t want any of it ? You can’t be that far from me, I’m in Stockton and the shoots about 40 odd miles from me
  19. Mate, you are welcome to come a take one, no money need change hands, it would have to be after combine and when the winter drilling have gone in so maybe December/January ?
  20. I like to think of it as good living Dave ?
  21. Them gingers have it good up there, the amount of road kill along that road you would think they’d never have to bother with my birds
  22. Were you coming up from Sutton bank, my mate hit a fallow at the wass turning last year, it ran straight into the drives side front, the entrance to my shoot is half a mile past that turning, we’ve got some nice roe up there now and a big head of fallow, it’s just getting the time to have a go, I really should make the time, I could probably take people out and when they have shot a deer just say “now you deal with it I haven’t got time, I’m off home, drop my share off when you are sorted”?
  23. I had a sit under a tree for 10 minutes while I was up there and got to day dreaming about the season and what it will be like to see them birds coming over these trees and how many I’ll drop from the sky ( in my head it was raining pheasants, reality is a lot different)
  24. I’ll have to find a way to get it in the air, we have a no ground game rule ?
