  1. When I was a lad there was an old railway freight liner over the back of my mam and dads house, ( prison built on it now ) we used to use it for our motocross bikes, the giprats would always stop off there on there way to Appleby horse fair to robbing everything they could ,putting a stop to our fun, they never stayed long because some of the local lads ? couldn’t wait to get in from school and go sniper style with the air rifle and shoot the windows out the vehicles, once they made a break for it leaving a caravan that no doubt they would come back for later, needless to say it had spontaneou
  2. Cracking result just before the birds come ?
  3. I’m the same, I’d much rather put a good day on for others than shoot myself, I’ve been known to swap my days with people for other rifle shooting ive been back up tonight on fox patrol, seen nothing until we were heading to the farm and spotted one in the gutter next to the farm, an easy 50 yard shot and down it went, my mates back up there tomorrow so he will retrieve it in daylight got a couple of rabbits from the veg patch as well with the.22 so the old girl will be pleased
  4. Best of luck, you can only do your best and the rest is in the hands of the pheasant gods ?
  5. That’s partly the reason we have replaced all the wire around the bottom of the pen, the old wire had a few holes in it as it’s been down a long time now and you can bet your life that poults will get stuck in it because they really are thick
  6. Nice going Dave, is that mummy and 3 terrible triplets ?
  7. Another hard days graft at the shoot, all new netting around the bottom, new pop holes installed, full new electric fence and a new drinker system, still a bit to finish off this week as the rain stopped play, I hope the syndicate members find some way of showing a bit of appreciation for the work me and Hugo’s dad have put into this now that we have taken over the running of it, but I’m sure they will just take it for granted and moan about something, in my opinion it’s never looked this good and we have made a feed plan to get the birds where we want them, strimming out feed rides giving us
  8. It’s doing the business with a skilled operative behind it ?
  9. Well I had a run up to the shoot last night as the crops are down and it’s not long before the birds come, so in between the very heavy and thundery showers I managed about 15 minutes of calling with the new fox caller, I must say I am very impressed with it, the sound quality is excellent and with 403 calls I’m spoiled for choice, even if I will use about a dozen of them on the gingers, I did call a little group of fallow down the field with a buck grunt even though they looked very confused, my plan was to go back tonight but the missus has volunteered us to look after our 11 year old nephew
  10. Up at the shoot on top of the moors they are always about 2 weeks ahead of the lower land, lower down the oilseed rape has been sprayed off and is due to come down a week on Saturday the wheat normally comes down between 2 to 4 weeks after that, then I’m spoiled for choice and the fun begins, fingers crossed it’s good weather on the Saturday when the rape comes down because I get to shoot as it’s been combined and that’s always a good bit of shooting, even better if you get to shoot from the combine ?
  11. Wild grouse shooting must be the most sustainable and ethically sound form of game shooting, the birds are true wild game, counts are done and if the numbers are not there then they are not shot, a friend of mine works on a grouse moor and this year the numbers are low and with the virus the owner has decided not to have any grouse days this year, mainly to give them a rest and to concentrate on pheasant and partridge days, this used to be a 500 bird day shoot but since the new owner got involved those days are gone and it’s much more about better quality birds and the hospitality which can on
  12. This is just my opinion but lead is not the problem with shotgun cartridges and I know the worry is contamination of food but it’s been used for many years with no proven detrimental effects ( as far as I know) it’s not like you are eating an ounce of the stuff, what annoys me is plastic and to me this is what cartridge manufacturers should be putting all their efforts into, at the minute you can only use fibre wad on my shoot and if you don’t pick your empties up after you I will stick them up your arse, if they could produce a cost effective biodegradable cartridge that shoots as good as any
  13. Quality, hopefully they are making a bit of a comeback around you ? All the crops have come off around the shoot now, so that’s my weekend sorted ?
  14. They all count, even if it was like shooting a dog on a lead ??
  15. If the wolf’s turned up at his door he’d probably open the door in his pj’s and shoot the buggers with a front stuffer ?
  16. That is a good price, I think ours are about £3.80 and that’s on 900, a £450 saving wouldn’t go a miss, it’s about time I started getting a wage from the shoot ?
  17. By, you’ve got some hoppers around you ? I’ve been contacted today by our pheasant supplier asking if we’d take the birds early, so I’m guessing someone has cancelled their order, I’ve told him that we will be ready in a week and I mentioned about the price or could he chuck a few more in so we’ll see what comes of that, I’d better get some pellets ordered ?
  18. They can never keep a good lad down, I wish you the best of luck for the new job looking very dapper out with the smoke stick ?
  19. It’s been done, dropped it off for an old boy and he was over the moon as he can’t get out anymore, I’ve told him to save me a bit ??
  20. The buck wasn’t very big no comment on the other fella ?
  21. You make it sound like broke back mountain Dave saying that he is a handsome chap ?
