  1. So, with the weather we have got at the moment the birds just want to be out the pens and in the sunshine on the fields, They are still eating well and I think I’m going to lift the wire at the weekend, set the rest free after feeding the pens I took the bike over the piggeries with a bag of apples for the deer and some fresh water, good job I’ve got the feeders in crates to stop them fallow rolling them about then off to walk the stubble and tip drive in, there was loads there, a right mix of ours next doors and wildies last stop was the oak wood and I got a shock when I seen
  2. They are what I got, first time I’ve used them and they are spot on
  3. I’ve got a lot of crazy stories about that kind of carry on from my younger days, stud in the middle of a road poking a purple dragon in the belly while it giggled and been chased out of a house by a angry can of coke ? maybe this isn’t the place to go into such nonsense ?
  4. Nowt worse than waiting for gear or people, if I don’t get started by 8 I quite often just sack the day off
  5. Still watching it go round and round and round ?
  6. They are very elusive, rumour has it that the dog lads almost wiped them out in the late 80’s to mid 90’s, I start to see a few from around the beginning of autumn, mainly in fields where I pick and eat these small mushrooms, maybe the jackalope like them too ?
  7. Yeah, I’d lost all interest by this point, they got what they were given ?
  8. I’ve never been on a game shoot where you are allowed to use a semi auto, we have one lad in ours that we used to let use a semi, because that’s all he had at the time and he’s a good lad, proper old poacher, but he was only allowed to put 2 in it
  9. ALL WRONG that is clearly the work of a jackalope anyone in the know will tell you this jesus, what am I working with here ??
  10. This has been and still is my view, all day, round and round and round ????????
  11. I got 500 Norma a few weeks ago just because they were the cheapest in the shop and they are spot on in the little cz, I stopped using Winnie’s because they were to inconsistent and went onto CCI and they were good, I think they were £9 a hundred
  12. It is all just tradition, I’ve been on some shoots that had a proper dress code, even for the beaters, a few years ago I was on a grouse moor and a lad turned up in a camo suit and he was sent home to change, it’s a nice thing to respect the traditions, one of the members of my shoot syndicate used to do guided deer stalking in Scotland and he said that was done in full tweeds and the extraction off the hill was always done on horse back, that’s moved on now the Scottish government just want everything dead so they can wreck the highlands, hopefully while we are still allowed to shoot winged g
  13. I know, she’s going to Gran Canaria, so it not like she can just come home because she’s missing me so much
  14. If the caravan a rockin don’t come a knocking ?
  15. Wish I’d kept that for my morning dump, but as soon as I seen the picture I couldn’t resist ?
  16. Now my birds have chilled out a bit, I’m hoping to get out and have some foxy stav time and enjoy been out again, the missus is going on holiday for a week next Sunday so I’ll have a bit more time on my hands, it’s a shame it’s not like it was 20 years ago, still some parts of the country are spoiled, I was talking to my mate rob earlier and he went to one spot last night and shot this lot ?
  17. That’s because you’ve shot them all you ruthless bugger ??
  18. I used to do the same, could do half a weeks wages down the club, I’m totally fine with venison been used as dog food but I know a couple of people that would kill them and leave them in a field, I’m definitely not ok with that, that’s just killing because you want to kill something, if it was worth something or I had an outlet for it again I’d be out all the time for them, but there’s only so much I can eat or give away, sad times ?
  19. I mean brutal in the efficient sense, they are really good at what they do, to me when I hear people talking about deer management in forestry I think to myself “ what are you talking about “ there is no management in a working forestry environment they are there to clear them out, management is for a financial reason the majority of the time, getting yourself a better quality of animal that you can charge some whopper a lot of money to shoot just because they want to shoot it, now although that’s not my thing I don’t have a problem with it because everything needs a value to be sustainable, i
  20. If you have land you want to be glad it’s not owned by forestry, them lot are brutal, I know the lad that does the deer control around my shoot ( he works for forestry) and he shoots everything he sees if it’s in season, the lad who does the other side of the moor is the same and you’ll almost never see a fallow on the grouse moor I shoot rabbits on, they have all but wiped them out, we’re quite lucky at the shoot, although we don’t have a lot of fallow there is a few because the land isn’t owned by forestry so he not allowed to shoot them in the fields which makes it difficult for him and not
  21. Chicken winner today and I’ve done another one of the lemon sponge loaf cakes because it was very nice ?
  22. What sort of age will that buck be, that’s quite a nice looking head, I’ve never been interested in head scoring I’m more interested in eating it than displaying it but I do like to have a ruff idea of age ?
  23. Another day, another early start, I had a look at a picture from the day they went in earlier and it’s amazing how much they have grown in 10 days, I’ve calmed down a bit now as they have settled down and are taking an amount of feed I would expect them to, Gordon’s pen is starting to stink a bit now so maybe by the end of the week I’ll consider lifting the wire, but I’ll keep my eye on the over the coming week, I’ve got a few hammering the feeders over the piggeries although I haven’t seen any good numbers over there yet, I had a walk down the stubble at the back of the farm, now this field s
