  1. Many of you will be pleased to hear the following...... The Police have been swamped with variation requests to add CWD and Muntjac to appropriate calibres. So..ACPO have just issued guidance to save all the admin...if you have Fox and vermin on your FAC and your rifle meets the legal requirement you can now automatically shoot the 2 smaller deer. The exemption will run for up to 5 years and each case will then be assessed at renewal or variation, when a decision will be made as to the certificate holders continued good reason to shoot these species of deer. 3. You have every right to be pleased with a headshot bunny at 140 yards...that is a f*****g long way with the HMR. Everyone spouts off about 150-200 yard shots but I suspect very few of these people have ever fired one. At that range they are beginning to tail off quite quickly and are very prone to gusts of wind anyway. Good shot that man!
  4. Must get myself a phone with a Camera.. Went out about 15.00 yesterday...slow start, nothing around so ended up in the woods with 5 squirrel, beginning to think about going when Charlie turns up, Bang! Small but good condition..then a bunny, only seen about 3 all day, then a Roe and then another Fox. Went home about 17.50. Excellent start to the year. Just been out again to another site and come back with nothing but frostbite...Snow tomorrow I hear! Cheers Deker
  5. I'm biased because I have a FN19RS...but I did consider the Logan 16 before I bought it, I made the right decision!
  6. See "What Can I shoot???" in Important topics immediately above this. This outlines the legal position but just like speeding, etc, etc,.... if you do it, it's down to you....... just don't complain if you get caught!
  7. The theory is if this is a dedicated "Skeet" gun it will have a short barrel and be very open. Not necessarily ideal for Sporting or Hunting (or any other disciplines either) GMK are UK the importers so you could have a word and see what they know, or even try Berettas website, Beretta USA could also be useful as they end up with a lot of Specials/limited editions! Cheers Deker
  8. I know this is about a S410 Carbine in .177 but my .22 Falcon has always performed brilliantly with AA Field in 5.51 and Bisley Magnum; H&N FTT has been another good one...but whichever way you look at it domed pellets will tend to be the most consistent and are most commonly used for "hunting". Of course ALL barrels are different ...even in exactly similar guns, and breech loading systems can also have an effect on pellet choice. Power of the gun has to be considered as well. These JSB sound interesting that mole catcher etc are talking about..must be about the only pellet I
  9. Have a look on here, you should see a few advertised so you will get an idea.... www.guntrader.co.uk
  10. The twist rate (produced by the barrel rifeling) does not have any effect on the bullet weight! 1-8 means a complete revolution of the bullet in the barrel in 8 inches, 1-9 means a complete revolution in 9 inches. 1-10, 10 inches etc etc. So a 1-8 is quite a tight twist and a 1-12 is quite gentle. Individual calibres and bullet weight, size and speed need different twist rates to optimise performance, stabilise the bullet as much as possible and therefore maximise range and accuracy. Sir Alfred George Greenhill worked out the twist rate formula....this is the time honoured formula ever
  11. Have a look at this,,,http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-countryside/vertebrates/gen-licence.htm I think you will find that Starlings are not on the list of shootable birds these days. A little research before shooting is the best way to stay on the right side of the law. http://f4bscale.worldonline.co.uk/starling.htm speedystu Many people are unaware what is allowed but the "management" have thoughtfully pinned some helpful info above. "What Can I Shoot!"
  12. Getting some good suggestions lads........should have said 2nd hand is OK........got about £150.00 to spend. Stallion I suspect a PCP with all the bits is a bit hopeful for £150 but you will find one or two CO2 and almost any full power springer should do the job on squirrels. They can be VERY hard to stop so good pellet placement is essential. Cheers Deker
  13. Probably....I have the FN19RS in FAC but if I was starting again today I would get the new stuff. More shots, better build, and newer technology etc...go and ask my mates here.............. falconowners.myfastforum.org Cheers Deker
  14. On the HMR the "Power" loss is nowhere near as much as you seem to think, but try and get it on a chrono to check exactly if you are concerned, it will depend on the barrel, the ammo and the moderator. As long as you have a decent mod and it is correctly fitted, it will help the relatively small amount of muzzle flip you get from the HMR and therefore it should be a tiny bit more accurate. It will have plenty of power to stop a fox at 100 yards (if you put it in the right place) even though many will argue it is not a tool for fox anyway. (See best calibre for fox pinned above) The HMR
  15. Thanks for that, I recon that the straw bales should absorb a fair bit of velocity and the slugs should ground well within my shooting range. At what distance have you zeroed your scope. On the safety side, and as regards backstops you really cannot be TOO safe, but the plans you have outlined for zeroing sub sonic ammo seem appropriate. A Winchester sub has plenty of power left to kill a rabbit at 200 yards. Problem is hitting them when you are out in the field; 200 yard subsonic quarry shots should not be considered with a .22LR. Most people will zero subs between about 50-7
  16. A good earth bank is always the best plan BUT as long as you are flat, even if it goes clean through everything it will ground long before 3/4 mile. Depends of the quality and dampmess of your chipboard, but even with subs it is likely to go through the chipboard. By the time you bring the zero in and put a couple close to each other it will definately go clean through the chipboard! Cheers Deker
  17. Fish "cut it out with the dremmel, using a fiber cutting disk on maximum speed" How did that go, was it easy or hard, those circular saw blades are usually made of pretty tuff stuff? Cheers Deker
  18. I'd like to know more about that Gamo at 1000ft sec as well. There are no tricks to squirrel shooting as far as I'm aware except shoot straight and in your range. There is no such thing as an average but most people will be happy with 5 or 6, it depends entirely where you are shooting and what you have to aim at...this was a very good site (or BAD, depends how you look at it).......and many people could have done this on this site...just happened to be me! gamo

According to Gamo it is meant to be 16J (12ft lb) But so is my lads RSV and on a good day it may do 10ft lb!
  20. For links to copies of the General licences covering each country go to the BASC website at www.basc.org.uk and click on the ‘Shooting’ tab and then click on ‘Pest and Predator Control’ in the drop down menu.
  21. Agree with all this but the recoil in some factory ammo is quite hard! Suggested by the Home Office as entry level for Boar. Cheers Deker
  22. Are these the Yellow Jacket 33g Copper Plated HP? If they are ...first off they are a good price..I pay £6.50 per 100 for these. They are around 1500ft sec and 165ft lb at the muzzle, I use them a lot in my CZ Silhouette, I like them, they work well, group quite well, and they cycle well! I also Use CCI Velocitors, 40g Copper Plated HP as well, 1435ft sec, 185ft lb, they arrive with a bigger thump, but grouping is not as good and they do not cycle so well in my CZ, but I still use them. Cheers i use the the cci velocitors they seem spot on .just thought i would try these se
  23. Fubar I'm speechless (and that doesn't happen very often) and truly impressed at the skills of anyone capable of doing this I hope it's not been to much of a nightmare for you. Many thanks Deker

  25. looks like a good start to the new land! The Bisley magnum is very heavy in a 12ft lb gun (I assume it is) but you seem to have the pellet arc sorted. You can always try other pellets but I don't think you are going to do much better, if you like heavy pellets. Regrettable though it is, you are never going to stop every animal with every shot, even Olympic target shooter don't get 100% every time. Depending how the Rabbit/squirrel present you could always try heart shots, particularly with the squirrel! Cheers Deker
