  1. Last Weekend of the Season (For Much) The invite came in early December and eventually the day itself had arrived An early start, not something I relish, but a 207 mile trip to the boundary of Devon and Cornwall lay ahead with a quick stop in Swindon to collect my lad Miles (and have a cuppa). It was dark of course, but as the motorway miles passed the dawn brought a bright crisp start and a clear trip followed all the way! We arrived shortly before 11.00am and met up with Lee; my old friend and host for the weekend; we would have been there earlier except for the Sat Nav trying
  2. You are probably getting some response but who are you, what is the estate...your profile is empty and this is your first post. Can you fill in a little more background for everyone please. Cheers Deker
  3. The spacing on the mil dots does not equate to the spacing on the other reticules the program is designed to work with, so it will not work. Best idea is to simply try the scope out in the field with appropriate ammo and check mil dots. Remember this program is only an approximation anyway, long/short barrels, barrel condition, variations of ammo from manufacturer to manufacturer, weather, atmospheric pressure, etc etc will all effect the flight path. The program is useful but don't stake you life on it, whatever it says you need to check in the field!
  4. Cleaning any and all guns and barrels is important but different for many, and everyone will have their own take on it. In the case of the .17HMR you have a small hole and some quite fast projectiles which tend to have a copper coat. This will leave a copper and propellent residue in the barrel and around the breech/bolt area. To maintain a good barrel, prolong its life and keep it accurate you will need to clean it. A bore snake will not do this by itself, they were only ever designed as a "quick fix" out in the field until you can do the job properly (and if my memory serves me c
  5. Darcy I fully agree......but....is it legal to release them? Would love to drop her right in the sh1t as shes quite high on local council and also on the National (mis)Trust with whom I have big issues over their stance on stag hunting. Would be great to be able to show that one of their head honchos was breaking law!!! The Fox is deemed as a native species and it is therefore legal to release them. The likes of the Grey squirrel, etc etc which are non native cannot be released into the wild. There is also nothing illegal about a fox "sanctuary" as long as it complies with all
  6. Hi Snelly ...the moderator....blast residue seems to be coming out of the joint at the front..have you had it apart..perhaps it was just not tightened up enough during manufacturer. Either that or maybe you have been firing into a very strong wind! Cheers i have a sak and it does the same thing mate. the blast residue leaks out the front and back abit. no matter how tight you do it up. i dont use it anymore as i have a dm80 now on mine. the hmr does burn the inside of the sak abit after alot of use. but i found it done a good job on the hmr. but not up to the same build as the dm8
  7. I use a .177 11.6ftlb and i can regularly head shot stuff from 5 to 50 yrd's so im guessing with a 26ftlb you will be able to double your distance as long as the wind is calm.. Millet Distance is another whole Hornets nest of debate (arguement)! Personally I would suggest 50yards with a 12ft lb .177 is a good shot! At 26ft lb with a .177 you are not looking to shoot at 100yards, I would suggest in normal circumstances 50 or 60 yards maybe. My PCP in .22 does actually run at 26ft lb and I have it zeroed at 40 yards, I can easily push that to 50 and sometimes 60 yards with con

Hello mate! First you need to get in contact with your nearest police station and ask them to send you out some FAC application forms. Then arange to have a meeting with your local FO ( firearms officer). He will help you through all the forms and advise you what to do. The police are genearlly more leneant towards FAC air rifles than rimfire. As they are less likely to have a huge over travel if you miss your target. I have a FAC air rifle in .177 and to be honest it isnt worth the decreased shots per charge of air. You would be better of going for a .22 rimfire, i also found it easyer
  9. Deker, it is the same rifle i have used, he is selling it because hes getting on a bit nd doesnt really want the long nights lamping anymore which is why he has been taking me out with him sort of train me up to take over. it has a sling, no bipod, and hes giving me 40 odd rounds of ammo. from what i can find out the scope was around £70 new. im not sure what mod it is it cost him £50 new. if £500 is too much what do think i should start negotiating at? thanks ss06 Hi 'sportingshooter06' Ok this is a difficult one, and I can't tell you what to do as I don't know the wh

  11. Any advantage or otherwise is almost entirely in the mind of the user. Grip tends to be a bit different (fairly obvious) and far more O/U are made these days giving a wider choice. The most important thing is get a gun that fits and is still tight. With £300 you are not going to get a top make/gun but there is plenty of choice of very useable guns at this price. Check out Guntrader.co.uk
  12. Certainly has been asked before..been bouncing around forever this one, but I thought it had been convincingly won by .22 for hunting and .177 for target So that's all sorted! PS 12ft lb Power! The .20 is meant to be the best of both worlds..problem is its the worst of both..it doesn't hit as hard as the .22 and isn't as flat shooting as the .177! The .25 is an excellent Rat gun but pretty useless at anything else. I'm off...Bye...

    My MATE

Thanks for all the replies...just that my MATE wanted to know!

  15. Scaffman73 I thought the SAK was fine with the HMR but stand to be corrected if found not to be! You have an interesting point with the Bipod and mine are always mounted with feet pointed to the end of the barrel and not to the butt. I have however heard an arguement to mount the Bipod as shown here which is meant to reduce any small bipod bounce, never tried though as I've never had any problem mounting it as you suggest. Cheers Deker
  16. Is this the same rifle you have used or simply one like you have used? CZ hold their value just about as well %wise as anyone else, they are good work horse guns in centrefire and their rimfire range offers excellent value for money. The setup your keeper has sounds fair, and with 150 rounds down it, it should be firing well now. The obvious question is ...So why is he selling it? So ..whats it worth...I'll guess you could get the gun brand new for £450. Don't know the cost of the scope and you have not mentioned what type of Moderator it has fitted. It also, obviously, has sc

    My MATE

So.....when the thread starts... ....My Mate says........My Mates got......My Mate knows......My Mate wants.....My Mate is.........My Mate etc......(You know what I mean) What's your first reaction?

  19. Good looking bit of kit. What have you been up to with the moderator? Cheers Deker
  20. .222 ammo isn't a problem, lots of choice. Probably a bit more choice with .223 but where .223 really scores is that there is a lot of very innexpensive military derivatives about. Nobody would suggest these are as good, or group as well as normal factory ammo but for chucking down a range in quantity they are great...at prices from about £14 per 100 for real .223 (not 5.56) stuff you can still afford a pint or two after the shoot! Cheers Deker
  21. Excellent... I've got a monster on one of my sites as well, seen him on 3 occassions so far including about 1.00am this morning just as I was driving away from the site. He is a real crafty ****** but I hope to have him soon, there does seem to be an awful lot about at the moment! Cheers
  22. If you have £30-£50 to spare as has been suggested (some cost a lot more) then they are certainly not going to do any harm. I run air rifles, rimfires and centrefires and I suggest bore sighters are best suited for centrefires, however, even with the daft price of some centrefire ammo, £1 plus per round in many cases, I still find I can bore sight by eye and then simply use a couple of rounds to bring it right in. I struggle to see there can be much use for a bore sighter on a 12 ft lb air rifle, and you have to finish with pellets to be sure anyway......simply down to individual ch
  23. Tikka T3 Steady on.. no need for talk of shotguns, frankly I'm with a couple of others here and like to get them as close as sensible. Long range..well, been there done that got the t shirt and, and yes, still very happy to take the long shots as appropriate. The But is.... I have also learnt to take every sensible advantage I can in the field..and if this means, bipods, calls, close range, whatever, I'm all for it! I don't need to keep challenging myself..I know what I can do! End of the day I don't see this as a competition, I'm happy with what I do, if you want to take the lon
  24. Whats the phrase.."there are lies...downright lies, and then there are statistics" ....... or something like that. Anyway to add some more info.... Depending on whose figure you look at between 1% and 2% of gun crime is committed by licence holders, which would suggest between 98-99% was commited by illegally held guns. Now ..who can define "Gun Crime"
  25. I wouldn't want to walk around that moor at night...and its nothing to do with the animals!
