Certainly has been asked before..been bouncing around forever this one, but I thought it had been convincingly won by .22 for hunting and .177 for target So that's all sorted! PS 12ft lb Power! The .20 is meant to be the best of both worlds..problem is its the worst of both..it doesn't hit as hard as the .22 and isn't as flat shooting as the .177! The .25 is an excellent Rat gun but pretty useless at anything else. I'm off...Bye...

Thanks for all the replies...just that my MATE wanted to know!

Hi Snelly ...the moderator....blast residue seems to be coming out of the joint at the front..have you had it apart..perhaps it was just not tightened up enough during manufacturer. Either that or maybe you have been firing into a very strong wind! Cheers i have a sak and it does the same thing mate. the blast residue leaks out the front and back abit. no matter how tight you do it up. i dont use it anymore as i have a dm80 now on mine. the hmr does burn the inside of the sak abit after alot of use. but i found it done a good job on the hmr. but not up to the same build as the dm8

Scaffman73 I thought the SAK was fine with the HMR but stand to be corrected if found not to be! You have an interesting point with the Bipod and mine are always mounted with feet pointed to the end of the barrel and not to the butt. I have however heard an arguement to mount the Bipod as shown here which is meant to reduce any small bipod bounce, never tried though as I've never had any problem mounting it as you suggest. Is this the same rifle you have used or simply one like you have used? CZ hold their value just about as well %wise as anyone else, they are good work horse guns in centrefire and their rimfire range offers excellent value for money. The setup your keeper has sounds fair, and with 150 rounds down it, it should be firing well now. The obvious question is ...So why is he selling it? So ..whats it worth...I'll guess you could get the gun brand new for £450. Don't know the cost of the scope and you have not mentioned what type of Moderator it has fitted. It also, obviously, has sc

Good looking bit of kit. What have you been up to with the moderator? Cheers Deker

.222 ammo isn't a problem, lots of choice. Probably a bit more choice with .223 but where .223 really scores is that there is a lot of very innexpensive military derivatives about. Nobody would suggest these are as good, or group as well as normal factory ammo but for chucking down a range in quantity they are great...at prices from about £14 per 100 for real .223 (not 5.56) stuff you can still afford a pint or two after the shoot! Excellent... I've got a monster on one of my sites as well, seen him on 3 occassions so far including about 1.00am this morning just as I was driving away from the site. He is a real crafty ****** but I hope to have him soon, there does seem to be an awful lot about at the moment! Cheers

If you have £30-£50 to spare as has been suggested (some cost a lot more) then they are certainly not going to do any harm. I run air rifles, rimfires and centrefires and I suggest bore sighters are best suited for centrefires, however, even with the daft price of some centrefire ammo, £1 plus per round in many cases, I still find I can bore sight by eye and then simply use a couple of rounds to bring it right in. I struggle to see there can be much use for a bore sighter on a 12 ft lb air rifle, and you have to finish with pellets to be sure anyway......simply down to individual ch

Tikka T3 Steady on.. no need for talk of shotguns, frankly I'm with a couple of others here and like to get them as close as sensible. Long range..well, been there done that got the t shirt and, and yes, still very happy to take the long shots as appropriate. The But is.... I have also learnt to take every sensible advantage I can in the field..and if this means, bipods, calls, close range, whatever, I'm all for it! I don't need to keep challenging myself..I know what I can do! End of the day I don't see this as a competition, I'm happy with what I do, if you want to take the lon

Whats the phrase.."there are lies...downright lies, and then there are statistics" ....... or something like that. Anyway to add some more info.... Depending on whose figure you look at between 1% and 2% of gun crime is committed by licence holders, which would suggest between 98-99% was commited by illegally held guns. Now ..who can define "Gun Crime"

I wouldn't want to walk around that moor at night...and its nothing to do with the animals!

Shortage of rabbits........?
Deker replied to Rolfe's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Flippin ek Ian that is early, I can't recall ever seeing young in January before around my patch! Might be wet, but in principle its mild and food is about...so recipe for early breeding AND Mixxy...Hey Ho, another year dawns! Interesing though, as I picked up my first new bit of land for 2008 yesterday, and walking it with the owner it was full of "tame" bunnies and they were very frisky, no sign of mixxy. She wants them dealt with but has also lost 18 of her 20 chickens in the last 10 days so looks like fun at this place (got to leave the deer alone though)! Cheers Deker -
Advice needed on lamping with shotgun
Deker replied to Gimli's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Always interesting to see different views, but it is to be expected because Bunny etc has different behaviour patterns at lots of my sites. Personally, I hardly ever lamp with a shotun mainly due to the noise..... 1 Bunny is easily startled by the noise and dissapears for longer 3 The noise at night can travel for literally miles (neighbours) .....and I personally believe there are much better tools for night shooting bunny to produce bigger bags: Anyway..this is the situation round most of my shoots, every piece of land and all the bunnies are different so good luck. Hints -
Stories such as this are always tragic and very sad. They are also the sort of thing that fires up the media into a frenzy about banning guns. We all make mistakes in life but we cannot afford to make them with guns. We all know the rules, lets make sure everyone sticks to them for the benefit of EVERYONE! Deker

The shop is good and so is Tony (the Remington is OK as well). Tony is a top shooter as well, and I mean top, but with shotguns. I suspect this helps him understand shooters, I have to travel 50 miles to see him but my local dealer is compete **** so its worth it. Cheers Deker

Try a gentle roast, either jointed or whole, few herds and spices and a bit of butter. Dead easy.. BUT... only works with the young ones, ideally a female at the end of her first year. If you get a real big one and it turns out to be male and 3 or 4 years old then marinate it and stew/caserole..or throw it away, it will be as tuff as old boots. Gradually get more adventureous, add a bit of bacon, make your own stock..just try things, but rabbit wise you will soon get to know what will eat well and what is fit for the cat! (or Fox bait)

That sounds pretty sensible...I've never used Bisley Pest Control but an ideal ratting gun is a .25. If yours is a .22 and you can get close, use a heavy pellet like the Bisley Magnum, it has an arc like a rainbow in a 12ft lb but hits rats like a train. Pointed pellets and .177 are not great for rats as they tend to go right through and do not impart enough energy into the rat. Hollow point are OK so are flat pellets but both struggle with accuracy. So, for rat, get as close as you can, use as big a calibre as you can and use a heavy domed pellet! Others have also made valid comment

Even though those Scots hate us (especially when we show them how to play football ) I signed this a while back. We should stand together on issues like this..and I like Scotland as well....(probably because they are about the only football team we stand a chance of beating)

There is no answer specific answer. Every region looks at it differently and area, topography, neighbours etc are all important.... EXTREME Example... 2 Acres in a Deep Valley with high sides all round and no neighbours for miles, you may even get a .5inch at 6000ish ft lb. 100 acres of flat open land completely surrounded by schools, housing estates, playgrounds, etc, fair chance of getting nothing!

Thanks rob...I got the tail off "Fairly" easily and left ALL the bone on the fox.....not sure how to carry on now, especially not sure how to remove the 2 or 3 lumps of matted crud that charlie managed to get in his tail. I've got this far, don't want to mess things up now! Thanks Deker
