Tried several filters over the years but I find a good dimmer is just as effective if not more so!!

22-250, more grunt and flatter, but much less choice of ammo, harder to find and more expensive in England than .223, but plenty of 22-250 guns available for sale!

RIFLE CALIBRE HAVE I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE?
Deker replied to gamegunner's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
I'm not disputing that small calibres are perfectly adquate for all UK deer, but my point is why not place a bigger bullet well and improve the odds even more? Tulkinghorn. I hear and accept what you say but there is a lot more to consider....and when it comes to bigger ...How big and who is the arbiter of what is satisfactory, why stop at .308...lets keep moving up so we can be more and more confident of a kill!! As I have said I don't believe there is a best calibre....and "big" is NOT always better, you have not explored the many different heads and effects, a 58g Ballistic -
The ASE and Jet z are NOT strippable in the conventional sense! You can certainly take them apart but it's a bit of a job, sonic cleaning is suggested by some, but no idea how or where you could get this done. The Predator range are very easy to strip and clean and the modular design means "parts" can be replaced if required rather than throwing away the whole mod and starting again! ASE and Jet z hang off the end of the barrel, the Predator is a reflex type! Jet z around £300, ASE not far behind, Predator can be had for £200!
-
You asked what were the BEST!! The Jet z and ASE range are definately better than the Predator Mods! They are also about 140g lighter than the Predator 8! Don't believe the quoted figures ...I have actually weighed them! See next post below!
-
I prefer the the reflex type but I used to have the ASE S5 and it definately has the edge on the Predator 8, of which I have 2. The Jetz is a bit better than the S5 range, it is marginal but noticeable!! So I rate the Jet z the best...but I don't use them!!!
-
The S5 range... not quite as quiet, but still very good!!!!! But......so what about the paint..does it still work...I'll bet it does!!! Plenty of shades of black available in spray cans (including heat resistant)!!!

All mine was done at the BPCA HQ in Derby... http://www.bpca.org.uk/home.asp?parent_id=1 Course was over a period of a couple of months...NOT every day....and exam held in Derby. Best to check the above link for costs and any online courses

Seems it has all changed over the last year or two...this is part 2 which I have passed, 1 and 2 rolled together now so I understand! Whatever..I have passed Level 2! Don't ask...I really don't know why!!! Deker As I have posted elsewhere, congratulations! I knew you could do it.... Just to clarify, you have passed the RSPH level 2 certificate in pest control (RSPH= Royal Society for the Promotion of Health), which is produced and examined by the RSPH (they are the examining board). This qualification replaced the old BPCA Part 1 (a relatively simple multiple choice exam)

The jet-Z™ CQB suppressor is a lightweight, ultra-compact rifle suppressor. Manufactured in Finland by Ase Utra OY, the jet-Z CQB™ suppressor incorporates Ase Utra's patented jet-Z™ baffle system. The jet-Z™ CQB is an all-steel, all-welded unit. The jet-Z™ CQB adds only 550 grams net weight and 120 mm net length to a typical rifle – and with a diameter of just 40 mm, the suppressor is slim enough to be used with low-mounted telescopic or iron sights. The jet-Z™ CQB is available with a variety of internal threads to fit directly onto the rifle barrel. Standard threads incl

CZ .17HMR 16'' or 20'' Barrel????
Deker replied to hotel2zero's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
In principle you pay about £50 more to get 4 inches less barrel... Never could quite understand that one!! The 20" will have the edge in accuracy but unless you are of Olympic standard I doubt very much you will notice the difference. The HMR ammo tends to use a different powder to most .22LR and does take a bit longer to burn up the barrel, (it is also cleaner as it burns more effectively) 16" is generally accepted to be the shortest you want to go with HMR. -
I see 3 possible problems.. 1 The scope mounts are twisted 2 The scope mounting rail is twisted 3 The scope is Fubared! Do you have another rifle to try the scope/mounts on???

Price of pellets has gone up dramatically in the last year or so, however, some sports shops that don't sell much may still have old stock, they will have a shock when they re-order from their suppliers! £6.50 for a tin of AA field is very good today!

How is that new mod performing...still have issues of balance with my T3 Lite .223, but with the latest changes it's the best it's ever been, (the .243 Hunter is fine), may have to see if I can try that new one on my .223...costing me a fortune in moderators this T3 lite!!! Good to hear the news and offer from Jackson Rifles, they do seem to be helpful!!

Wasps Nest.
Deker replied to Dowen Pest Control Solutions's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Who told you that?! Ant powder and "wasp powder" (Ficam D to most pesties!) are basically the same thing, a bendiocarb based insecticidal dust. Sure, there are slight variations as to the type of insecticeds- I'm sure some pesters will use a permethrin based dust for wasps, just as I'm sure there are probably permethrin based ant powders commercially availiable. Long and short of it- "ant powder" will kill a wasp nest, but if you want to go close enough to the nest to treat it with the duster pack, then basically, you're a fool! Leave it to the pros! Every situation is diff -
You will also be able to buy lots of mouse/rat "poison" from your local or national DIY store....the active ingredient is often the same but the concentration in the product is usually a joke...does nobody any favours!

Ok, as many of you know I am a shooter primarily, but even us old boys can learn, I thought it was about time, so a couple of months back I did the BPCA exams and whilst I was confident about the Rodents and Legislation I had serious reservations about the insect malarky...(well, I don't often have to shoot them)....anyway...got the results today and f*** me ...I managed to pass every module....!!!

All the CZ rimfires offer excellect value for money and shooting package. This eating the barrels business is news to me, not had any problems, and know several people who run an assortment of CZ rimfires and they are all still on the original barrels!!! Barrel length, weight is down to your requirements! My main use for my rimfires and centrefires is hunting and I use light barrels for everything...suits my requirements best!

New Silhouette and Style available in HMR with 16 or 22 inch Standard, not heavy barrel, I have the 22inch with a mod and its not as long as you may think, head shooting bunnies at 100 yards all day long and I have still not got it 100% zeroed!
-
As a matter of interest why the heavy barrel???

I have the Beretta AL391 Urika Gold Game gun 28" with Optima, got it new about 6 or 7 years ago now, no problems and never regretted the day I bought it. Had the best part of 20,000 shots through it! I love Semis (or self loading as they seem to prefer these days) but I absolutely detest the cleaning job, but it is important to keep them clean! If the gun is a good as your man says then £740 seems fair...but I expect you can still twist his arm a bit!!!
-
The Deben range, particularly the Mini and Max offer good value for money but in my opinion it is almost essential to get the PRO version, this is the one with the dimmer!!
-
General view of the P8 is OK. Not the best at Sound reduction although OK........ but it is probably one of the easiest to strip and clean, and because of it's modular design it is also easy to change to another calibre or thread without having to buy a whole new moderator. I have 2.
