  1. As previously stated....If you are the landowner, the agent of the landowner or have the landowers consent (de facto the landowner), you can take out another party under your control and in your earshot using one of your guns! But he cannot use one of his guns unless he is the landowner, the agent of the landowner, etc etc...!! Don't ask..I know it sounds daft!!!
  2. I have a 12ft lb, an FAC air rifle, an assortment of rimfires and centrefires and shotguns..... but this is what I do. For most regular people I would have to suggest a .22LR rimfire. Why do you want to pay all that money for an air rifle with limited shots, bottles etc, when you can buy a brand new rimfire for £250 or less, and put in shorts or shot shells all day, more versatile, cheaper, lighter, much bigger choice of ammo with power availability from about 30ft lb up to about 200ft lb......after all you need a FAC for both!!!!!
  3. I too tend to use 6x for the majority of my shooting....on the air rifle, FAC air rifle, rimfires, and centerfires, commonly up to 200yards!!! Being realistic I do use the higher magnification for checking detail but will then wind it back for the actual shot. You will "tend" to find the less expensive scopes have larger objective lenses to, in some way, help compensate for the lower quality optics, this is not a criticism, it is a simple fact, my most expensive scope has a list price of £330 and the rest are £220 or below!!! This trade off can produce very acceptable scopes. M
  4. Ok....just bought my lad a brand new Escort Magnum, 5 days and about 40 shots later the choke disintegrated and the barrel end ballooned in a very worrying fashion. Obviously went back and replacement collected today. We all know this is a rare event (especially as the gun is proofed to 3" magnum) but the more I think about it the luckier I am to be alive, as most of the time he was shooting it I was stood at his side..the barrel could only have been 1 or 2 shots at the most from blowing up! The distributors have replaced it fairly quickly (8 days) but not so much as a sorry, I t
  5. SS, was recommended No3 steel in Keens last week for geese in 2 & 3/4" 32g (all they had I think, said there's little difference!). Is it wiser to go 3" or 3 & 1/2" magnums?? Only thing that puts me off is £20+ per box!! You get to a point where you have to make your own value judgement as to height, speed, wind, distance, type of duck/goose! There is not a BEST cartridge, there are several very adequate cartridges depending on the circumstances Punt Gun?????
  6. £13.50 at T Turners when I last got some...and thought they were taking the mick!!
  7. That actually explains it a lot better and more simply than I have seen in many an article, and whilst it may also seem very obvious to many, it is essential to look straight down the tube as well, as this too has an effect on parallax!!
  8. Though I don't have and have not tried one, I have a pal who has £140 worth of Wildcat rimmy mod and rates it the biggest waste of money ever on his HMR saying the SAK is better! I am still not happy and have the Sirroco SM11 (Edgar bros distribution) at the moment! Started with a HOG, very good for the 6-8 shots it lasted until the HMR pressure started blowing it apart...do NOT use!!!! Borrowed a SAK briefly and perfectly adequate (Jackson Rifles suggest they will last 10,000 rounds on an HMR ) Tried a couple of CF mods but the weight becomes a problem even though they do have the
  9. That fuse being the used HMR case I take it ...in the old days that was known as a "bodge"....in this politically correct age ..."a work round", and where would the world (or Blue Peter) be without blu-tack and sticky tape......now then...there must be something we can do with that old loo roll!!!
  10. feck me how much ?? £4 how much is your game dealer/fish shop selling them for ? god knows i asked them if they would buy rabbits and they said a good couple of quid so i really should have said 3 - 4 quid. sorry for that where i live there is a beach in front of me teaming with rabbits but there has been a big bird thing that i have seen taking pigeons so lets hope it keeps away form my rabbits!! Bite his hand off at £3-4...if you run short of bunnies give me a shout and I'll send you some...will still make me money at those rates!!!! ...and as for £6.00
  11. Still not 100% happy with it: no real surprise its on it's 3rd moderator, second mounts and second scope and second type of ammo, but it is now about a month old and fired about 250 rounds; and the barrel is about right...so out tonight to check the zero again. 105 yards (there was a dip in the ground at 100 so I moved out a bit), couple of clicks and ended up with 3 touching shots...happy with that , but.....about a quarter inch low and right....got to head off but no problen ..one click each way when I get home and job done!! Start to clean the gun and check base mounts, 3 out of th
  12. You are obviously not in the vermin control business then!!! There is business and sport...do not confuse the two!!!
  13. Sounds like you had a good night mate, i remember the 40-gr 223 & the very messy end the rabbits have. He caught this one just above the shoulders and opened him up like a tin of sardines, his ribcage was sticking out his a**e and his rear legs ended up round his neck...a very strange sight, when we picked him up virtually everything fell out! What got tossed into the hedge for charlie was just a bit of skin and bone!! Am I going to be seeing you soon Outshooting??????
  14. I'm just too good to him aren't I.....after his lamp goes Tits up again (never known anyone have such bad luck with lamps...bought and bust 3 different ones this year!!), I bring charlie to the lamp, squeek him to a stop and who shoots him????...and the bunnies......anyway..the old boy with the working lamp did manage a couple of bunnies with the HMR but left the rest to the new kid on the block!! .......got to sign off his Deer ticket soon and vote for him having completed his probationary at the rifle club.......it's at this sort of time you need to remember who your friends are....
  15. Pay particular attention to everything Chris has mentioned above and highlighted...don't cut ANY of the corners or you will regret it!!
  16. Depends who you talk to but 20-30% price rises are being suggested...is someone 'avin a larf at our expense again???
  17. I have a wide one for my T3 Hunter even though it is not heavy, about 2"wide, padded but also got a non slip shoulder backing, cost me £30 just acouple of weeks ago but I can't remember the make...sorry...... ....other option......get a lighter rifle!!
  18. First off it's a certificate... There will be no problem him keeping his shotgun in your cabinet if you also get a SGC and list it AND keep the key (access) yourself! "Sharing" the cabinet causes more problems as others have outlined! SG ammo does not have to be stored in a cabinet, you just have to take reasonable precautions to keep it safe.. Easy
  19. .22LR shot shells should be considered....this is almost exactly what they were intended for but 20 yards is max range!
  20. Beretta 391 Gold 28" MC Game Beretta 686 Sporting Special MC 28" Also in the cabinet at the moment but not mine...it's a long story.. Beretta Silver Pigeon III MC 30" Escort Magnun Game MC 28" All in 12g Why...because I like Berettas and have an assortment of uses for them... I'm after a good solid 20g o/u so if you have one lurking in the cabinet you no longer use send me a PM
  21. Someone who knows more than me will no doubt be able to explain the physics better than me, but very quickly.... Most HMR powder is burnt by about 14-15 inches up the barrel Most HMR are 16-16.5 twist rate so it is generally suggested a 16 inch barrel is the minimum you want to go to, which guarantees a complete rotation of the bullet in the barrel and full powder burn. Longer barrels will give you a fraction better accuracy and arguable slightly more power. The extra power is generated as the pressure behind the bullet is not dissipated (as out of a shorter barrel) quite as quickly,
  22. Old proverb.... Believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see!!
  23. Can't knock them really, there are those that recon they are the best you can buy at the moment, still find them a bit on the heavy side for me, but then I'm just a tart, like light guns!
  24. Suspect you are still on a high
  25. There are plenty of oils out there, any common gun oil will help with the damp and Legia is great!
