  1. I've been around the block a couple of times but it doesn't matter how many corners you turn...something new/different always turns up, you just never stop learning! BUT..I know little about Wildfowling...just waiting for someone to offer me the chance of letting go with a cannon...(punt gun).
  2. Well ..I don't know the Shetlands; and I don't know anyone else who has bought a 22-250 for rabbits...ATB!! PS ..as far as I am aware all rifles have a removeable barrel.. but the vast majority involve a specialist job!!
  3. Then again, it may have been further And I did range from the fence, not the fox OK... you can have 2 yards for the fox but take off one yard for the rangefinder.....****..that make 245 yards.....and you are only getting away with this as I am just finishing the first bottle of wine tonight.....yeh I know..what a tart.. hic hic!! Just opening the next bottle...best get something to eat I suspect!..............and I'm seriously thinking of a Crocodile Dundee style Ball crunch on Denise to check!!! If I'm wrong I may get lucky.... or a right slapping!!
  4. I'd say..but it is well well known that my view is; it's not the size of your tool that counts its what you do with it...in other words... put anything in the right place and it works....you only need a big calibre if you can't shoot straight......I'll get my coat!!! What shooting have you done up to this point???
  5. Yep..you could be right but digital pics are easy these days... 500 should not be a problem..as long as it is correct and been looked after...Sako are pretty good so fingers crossed! Difficult this one; but I am going off the 22-250, now don't get me wrong.... it is a great calibre and flat, fast, hits pretty hard ...but it is a little heavy on barrels...I have not heard of anyone saying it is great for anything but fox...and still debateable on that..and the ammo if ******* expensive and not that readily available! So it starts to be a bit specialist..but if that is the speciality yo
  6. Yep..that's about the way it is...makes you wonder about Rob doesn't it.... ........I'll get my coat!!!!
  7. Lets not get carried away with the distance...that cheap old rangefinder he has, held together with the Blue Peter repair kit is only accurate to + or - 1 yard, so it may not have been as long as 244 yards
  8. Spend as little as you can on a gun that you think will do the job...then, when YOU find out what you want from a gun from experience; weight, power, calibre, barrel length, moderation, scope etc etc etc.....you can trade the one you have and buy what suits your requirements! No point spending a fortune on a gun upfront that you may find is unsuitable and you can't get along with!!
  9. As has already been said it depends on your make, barrel and twist rate!! I am fortunate that my T3 is perfectly happy with them, and as Mr L has said, I can deal out V Bulls at 200 yards all day with them...so that suits me as I can let go plenty in a day without having a problem paying the mortgage! But I target shoot for fun these days and if I was into serious competition I would not dream of using them!! And there are a lot of rifles that hate them! PPU or PRVI definately has the edge in my opinion but it costs circa £35 per 100 FMJ instead of Barnaul at around £14 per 100 (j
  10. To Illuminate or Not If the reticle is very fine then maybe, but very dim illumination only! If you can see the riticle then I struggle to see the need to illuminate it..day or night!! Only one of mine is illuminated...well I had to give it a try!!!! Still on the first battery Don't think I will be needing the spare!
  11. what about pointed pellets? any beginner (like me) would asume amiediatly that pointys give better penatration Penetration is useful but you lack accuracy with these which is even more important. In addition, it is also about imparting all the energy into the quarry (as someone else has said) rats, small birds, whatever...if you go right through you waste energy!! To keep it simple, domed will be the answer!
  12. it just looked pretty to me in my old mans "air gunner" or whatever when i was a nipper! lovely looking thing with thumbhole/skeliton stock. not sure what i would use the 40ft/lb for, but im sure i could find sum bunnys really far away or squizzers up really big trees It would have to be a money no problem exercise...Falcon can only get these up to about 30ft lb, so, it's....throw away everything inside and get some serious custom work done if you want to make it to 40ft lb
  13. Always fun seeing everyones views.....interesting to note it's head/neck shots only...except for those that shoot them in the chest and they drop instantly...so that's all clear now!! ...and anyone who can consistently head shoot a pigeon with a 12 ft lb air rifle should think about doing it professionally!! ...and how come you all seem to suggest by head shooting it you kill it, or MISS it, nobody ever scalped one, sliced a chunk out of his throat or shot his beak off....No I'll just go and put my tin hat and bullet proof vest on!!!
  14. It is very rare ...I don't know of anyone who has had a visit...but it is possible!!!
  15. sounds to me you were homeloading and did not find that perfect round for you rifle or you were useing shitty rounds that did not suit your rifle which one was it ...what rifle did you have ??? Rob...sounds to me like you don't like the .223!!! The .204 may well be faster but it has it's problems...to describe the .223 as crap is more than a bit over the top!!!
  16. How do you spell deja vou??? Don't know is my honest answer but I would guess at the Sheridan! Enjoy the pistol for plinking and fun..and you can as well...if you may be considering live targets, I strongly suggest rifle and not pistol! Cheers
  17. This is all very sad of course and no doubt the recriminations are bouncing about everywhere..has the rifle/calibre been substantiated yet...are we talking .22LR or a .22CF??? Not actually heard this news report at all!!! But this sort of thing can never do us any favours whatever!!!
  18. Not sure what you are after but I have been looking for a good tight O/U 20g for about 4 or 5 years for no more than £200. Ther is definately one out there in the back of someones cabinet, just waiting for the opportunity to jump into my hands..but so far it has not happened! Come on everyone...you remember..that shotgun you bought for the lad/misses/loved one, etc that never really got used, and is sitting around doing nothing...give me a shout.. Cheers Deker
  19. Layout, conposition, artistic impression...flip... that first picture is good...who on earth laid that out for you
  20. thanks a lot pretty well answered every thing. my neighbor is a firearms officer (armed response at least not sure if thats the same thing) so i think i will approach him first seem if he thinks it is a good idea... thanks again adam Definately not the same thing but worth a chat if you can anyway....SS has given you the lowdown, and little or nothing to add..it has been said
  21. All the best, if you have good reason and the right land etc there should not be a problem...hopefully the WHOLE ticket will be Open, don't actually know anyone who has an Open ticket just for rimfire...it is Open or not in my experience! And the Open bit is such a relief...one of those days you remember when it happens, until you get old like me!
  22. Someone has the deal of the century or you have not been telling us the whole story!!!
  23. Basically because the american is lighter, and more compact than the varmint.... as stated you don't really need a heavy barrel for a rimfire... ...and the new CZ Silhouette HMR is a tad lighter still
  24. I'd go along with that, and I'm surprised this has not been pulled already....on top of which the original post seems a bit of a half hearted effort to sell But hey...I'm up for £155.50p
