you know your stuff deker how you get so much knowlage on hunting? I've been doing it a long time, it is my job as well as hobby and it is important to be aware of the legislation as best you can! I know a lot, but I also know I don't know a lot as well, the law is constantly changing and you can never know it all. However, every time you go for a walk with a gun you are controlled by.... Firearms Acts 1968-1997 Anti Social Behaviour Act 2004 Countryside Act 1981 Assorted Game Acts Health & Safety Act 1974 Highways Act 1980 Deer Act 1991 ETC ETC ETC...and all th

Probably the Rapid Mk1...it has a lot of history and is rugged and reliable!!! But the youngsters may well say the S Type!! ...sorry Mr Daystate (even though I used to have a Huntsman), you may like to consider yourself the "inventor" of the modern PCP but....!!! I agree the Mk 1 is a fantastic bit of kit as I used to own one, I hope you don't put me in the catagory of the younsters at 39 years old I'm older than most and younger than some here . But when my S-TYPE arrives I will be able to give a good comparison between both rifles So maybe I'll be able to add some feedba

Rarely even try over 200 yards, especially lamping, so I am always impressed with shots this distance!

You mentioned SGC for your current cabinet...does this have a seperate lockable compartment in it, cabinet requirement are different for SGC and FAC?!?!

Thanks for the reply Any ideas/recommendations where I can get one of these Harris 9"-13" Swivel, Notched at a good price in the UK? http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/ They are the UK importers as well as retailers, probably the cheapest you will get, £5 or £6 delivery I think, but have a look!

No.... is the simple answer to that, but you are wondering into an area where you would be best to discuss this with your FEO, as he is ultimately the person who needs to be satisfied!! And mounting your cabinet horizontally is perfectly acceptable legally!!

Right ..if you have £100++++ to spare then yes, yes, yes....and don't be fooled into thinking they are only any use for long range centrefire...they can be very useful for rimfire (especially subs) and air rifle. Now then...I don't have one, and I can't be bothered to carry one around either, but my shooting buddies often do have them, and carry them, and use them, which I find VERY helpful...if only to confirm my stride is still very close to a yard and I can range by eye accurately enough...but I have had a lot of practice!!

Anyone getting work done on their shooting irons?
Deker replied to a topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Been farting around with my .223 T3 Lite for ages, new mods, scopes, mounts..the gun is great but the balance is crap...getting very close to the point, where having tried everything else, a few inches will have to come off the barrel!! Even GMK are aware of the problems with this model, and suggest owners remove the butt pad and add lead in expanding foam to improve the balance!! Cost me a fortune so far this gun.. .......my T3 Hunter is fine though, as it has the short barrel already and heavier stock, good balance even with the Bipod and Predator on the end of it!! -
Many bore solvents concentrate on powder/lead removal with a bit of copper removal as well...copper solvent does what it says!!! I use Hoppe's but I suspect they are all pretty much the same! HMR is a tiny bullet and quite fast up the barrel...and copper coated (the copper coat is generally applied to fast rounds to stop the lead bullet deforming with the heat of air friction and becoming inconsistant in delivery..as a bonus it assists penetration)....this being the case the bullets tends to leave copper deposits up the barrel and if the barrel has not been broken in effectively these de

We have been here several times before and the "Vermin" question is often raised .......FOX..... and I agree, I have never heard of a problem with fox, but fox is listed on centrefires and if you have any doubts or concerns get it listed on your rimfires as well!!! It seems that I am one of the very few that specifically has FOX listed for my .22LR and HMR, as well as the usual vermin etc, ...so... to answer a previous comment...Rimfires are definately not illegal for fox!! However, they are not my first choice of tool on the whole, but I am involved in so many situations/land/problems

Boresnakes...as has already been said IMHO...someone has done a brilliant marketing job for these and fooled a lot of people!!! Nothing wrong with an 8x42 at 100 yards!!...I tend to use 6x for just about everything out to around 200 yards!! Barrel scrub??? Is it shooting any better, did you use a copper solvent??!! thinking about zeroing at 50 then giving it 1 click down for 100 any thoughts ...doesn't float my boat.....whatever you do you MUST check by live firing at 100 anyway!!!

9-13, notched legs and Swivel....Harris is the way to go!!!!!! BUT..... the suggestion is the new Deben range is more than worth a look!! Only problem with them is, they are so new that there is no long term test comments available!

I wish I had a few mate who can't be bothered to shoot their land, everyone I know is always busy shooting!!!!! So modest bags generally!! But plenty of satisfied landowners!!!

Cheers Deker now yours is .22 (5.51 & 5.52) so this will have more surface area to cover giving more friction. Mine will be .177 (4.51 & 4.52) meaning there's less surface area to cause less friction. I'm gonna try both and post my results when my rifle arrives. I will be doing a full review of my Theoben .177 S-TYPE rifle and I will show my result with both diameter heads Sorry...forgot to mention that mine also runs at 26ft lb!!!

Whatever it was there are plenty of strange and weird sounds at night....I've been doing this longer than I care to remember and even I get squidgy sometimes at night thinking..."what the f**k was that"""???!!!

50% positive response is brilliant

It's news to me it's a frequently asked question "where to shoot in Wolverhampton"
-
Always a subject with a lot of individual opinions but I find the expensive boots get just as many holes in them from the brambles, holly, hawthorn, gause etc as I kick it all out the way! I tend to wear the posh ones at Game/Country Fairs and wear the cheap ones in the field!!
-
It is much harder at night..even when you know your land well, it always seems further away...I don't know any clever secrets....except practice!!
-
If that is a 10 shot group at 40 yards with a 12ft lb...even off a bipod it is f*****g impressive...I am a good shot, mine runs at 26ft lb, is brilliantly tuned and even off a bipod I would struggle to do that!!
-
You need to try them BOTH, doesn't matter what anyone else says..each barrel is different...I use the .22 and 5.51 all the time, groups better, flies faster and works..the 5.52 is too tight up my barrel; and I loose nearly 1/2 ft lb!!

You don't need the FEO's or the Licensing Departments permission to install a cabinet. If you are confident of getting your certificate, then you could install it anytime. And it really depends on where you are, as to how long your cert will take, some, such as those in West Mercia, have been waiting months and months. Regards SS I go with SS here 100%..where on earth did you get this idea??? NOBODY has to give you permission to install a cabinet...get it done and stop wasting your FEOs time so he can visit other people!!

Great to have some shooting in the garden but I would try and rear rabbits, game birds and deer...not rat and pigeon!!

Lightforce are well known for problems and although I don't actually have any, I have experienced assorted problems with them first hand whilst out with a shooting buddy who has 2 of them.....I run a Deben Mini Pro (about 8-9 years old), rewired several times but still going strong, and a much newer Deben Max Pro!! Build quality on these is definately not the best but they are easy to fix, and they are of course a LOT cheaper than the Lightforce, and in my opinion much more reliable and much better VFM!
