  1. Second post in this thread repeated below...Can't help thinking all those loads of people said you only need a small light not one that scares rabbits off 2 fields away have never been lamping!!! Down to your own requirements/budget but I would simply say stay away from the logan and anything that promises less than a 200 yard beam..personally I would always suggest a dimmer switch as well!! Good value.. Deben Mini/Max Pro ...better quality Lightforce. Lots in between!!!
  2. Don't use Winchester now but certainly have in the past, always found them to be average to OK! Don't use a 10-22 either though!!
  3. Out last night on some of my land where I took out 4 fox only about 3 weeks ago, with help from Mr L. Anyway..out again with another shooting buddy last night and took another 3 off the same patch...3 more around as well but ran big time and hardly bothered with a backward glance to the call as they disappeared at speed....so looks like the last few are going to be long range hard work.
  4. What you describe above does sound like a Predator 8. The Jet z screws straight on the end of the barrel, it is not an over barrel mod and does not have the nylon bush!!
  5. One piece or two piece mounts....I've never known an arrester block being required with good mounts!! If the arrestor block means you are messing up your eye relief it may well be time to give up and start again!!
  6. Not sure what made you think this but the situation is................... They have every right to turn up whenever they like, but they have no right to enter your home for the initial interview unless you decide to admit them! If you already have a firearm the police are entitled to enter your home at all reasonable times BY LAW!!!..but only to check on your firearms and ammo and security.....but lets also be realistic about this..if the police find one round of ammunition out of place your whole house can be legally turned over!!
  7. I thought this may be useful for some, I know there are lots of tables about but this does seem to cover quite a few CF's and out to 500 yards as well , http://www.pacinfo.com/~dropinsator/chart1.htm Just click on the calibre you want in the blue section!!!
  8. foxcalluk.co.uk Used to squeek myself but got one of these last year, seems ok and only £10..
  9. Well ..on the whole they are a bit faster and hit a bit harder...but you don't need anything to hit harder than a .223 for fox, and a 40g ballistic tip .223 will give the trajectory of a swift anyway. Oh... and the ammo will cost a fortune, be hard to find and not offer anything like the choice of the .223..like for like, yep, it will have the performance edge on the .223 but I'm not rushing out to buy one myself!!!!!!
  10. No arguement with what you say about the filters but over the years I have found them all to be pretty useless...just use a dimmer on the lamp now, and have done for years...seems to work as well if not better than any filter I have tried!!
  11. Targets and zero work and scopes become very personal... but I use 6 x Mag anyway and zero at 100 on the HMR. Target wise I make my own on the computer..EASY....A4 sheet of paper and print 3 thick black (3-4mm wide) horizontal lines and 3 thick vertical lines, this produces a grid with multiple aiming points and leaves lots of white space to see the shots, and is easy to use with any cross hairs on a scope!! Works for me and it's quick and easy to bring in any scope in a couple of shots!! PS and it's easy to see at 100 yards at 6x mag!!
  12. I rather suspect the 22-250 is perfectly adequate for both but if you can afford a .243 as well so much the better..the bigger the choice of tools you have the bigger your choice of situation and quarry!! CF wise I run a .223 and .243 and I'm looking to fill my .308 slot at the moment...and I wish to god I could shoot the Roe in England with my .223...How daft is it..my .223 lists as Roe in Scotland on my FAC but not England of course!!
  13. 1/4 inch....edge to edge or centre to centre???...good going that man!! Not absolutely sure myself but I have had 3 clover leafing, but 5... probably about 3/4 inch
  14. Sirocco SM11 on the HMR..talked into it by a RFD who assured me it was the best you could get for the HMR yeh...right...fell for it again didn't I..the SAK is just as good if not better ... and a couple of quid cheaper! And the Whisper is a complete waste of £125!! Have tried a DM80 Hornet Moderator on the HMR and it is certinly an improvement..but not much!! Had a HOG on it to start with (A different RFD...it was good for the first few shots then I blew it up...NOT for the HMR this mod) Seems the HMR will remain a problem on the mod front..I accept the sonic boom but nothing seems
  15. i dont drink any more! was going to call the cops and give it "ive just seen two men acting strange in a field with guns" but then i thought do i really want an A.R.U running about on my land? To add a serious note to this... you should have called the police immediately.....never shine your light at someone or challenge anyone you know to have a gun...(how many guns..how many people..dogs as well...how desperate???) Call the police..let them do their job and rest easy!!! Challenging anyone in these circumstances can lead to YOU being prosecuted or even worse!!! spot

  17. Flippen 'ek £2....what Philips please, do you have the number???..I have got to try one of these...Cheers
  18. I don't think that is fair at all.... I favour a .223 for this job..I am not suggesting I am right and everyone else wrong saying a .243, but stories like the above are of no consequence, the same could easily of happened with a .243 and I have been involved in deer stalks when the dogs have been required and .308 was the minimum calibre allowed!! I totally agree you have more tolerence in the shot with a larger calibre but that being the case why stop at .243....as I say...shot placement over a cannon!! And ammo wise, a 50g .223 Ballistic tip at around 3600ft sec is almost lazer like
  19. Can't you even be tempted to stay in for the X Factor results ......... No...neither can I...just off out myself....bye all
  20. the rifle is a cz452 american that i hacked down to 16" and the moderator has no plastic on at all...will post a pic of it if it helps????? I guess they are talking about the nylon bush as found on the likes of some reflex such as the Predator 8 and T8. Jet z just screws on the barrel end as far as I am aware!! Anyway...other than £300 centrefire mods it does not seem too hopeful of getting anything effective to fit on a HMR!!
  21. So..the MINI then....be careful..they can get warm enough with a 30w bulb in them......a 35w!!!!!! But...I would be very interested to hear how you get on with it...what if any beam improvement it gives you, how long the bulb and battery last and...WHAT IS THIS NEW BULB????
  22. Riggers Just lifted this from the FAQ section..... Hi all i just read this on a site www.border-barrels.com about 'SHOOTING IN' A BARREL do any of you do this on your new gun or barrels or is it done from the factory do you think this needs to be done or not? This is what they do 'SHOOTING IN' A BARREL There is much discussion about 'shooting in' a barrel. Everybody seems to have their own way of doing it, so this is a brief monograph about how we do it. But first, a few words on why 'shooting in' a barrel is necessary. No matter how well lapped or how finely finished t
  23. You may well get a lot coming back here, but to simply try and answer your questions... 1...Depends on the land .... Generally ..maybe..but you end up with a different set of problems!! 2...Almost always..but you still need to find the right time of night!! 3...No, but hardly ever do in the daytime either for bunnys!! One thing I would add, even though you have not asked.....don't even think about going lamping on land you don't already know well from daytime shooting!!
  24. Roe and Fox ONLY in Scotland......223 all the way...loads of ammo choice, easy to get and cheap. I have always favoured shot placement over using a cannon!!! Anyway...others will say how flat and fast the 22-250 is..correct!! Others will say the .243 is the way to go I only have a .243 because the law says I must for some deer! I say .223
  25. You make no mention of why you actually want a .25....... so to reply generally... ...the 12ft lb, .25 is "possibly" the best ratting tool you can buy... ....I think you will struggle to find anything else it is any use for!!!!
