  1. Either will do the trick. Use which ever gives the best accuracy (twist rate dependant). John If we assume there is no other calibre choice in this case then YES, either is MORE than adequate! I am really struggling, and have done for many years, to understand why so many people feel the .243 inadequate for some deer. For sure, personal choice and individual shooting situations differ, as does individual ability and bullet choice, but it p****s me off I have to get the .243 out to shoot Roe in this part of the world when my .223 does an exceptionally good job on them in Sc
  2. Good to see your years of experience and helpful attitude to members showing through....if he uses this in Scotland he will get arrested and lose his FAC!!! I'm sure he appreciates you are only trying to help him! Deker i think that was a swipe at your mate Mr logic , but quoted off another thread. sounds like I have missed something here then!
  3. Go f*** yourself you f***ing retard. I tend to try and steer clear of personal abuse but that's not on. I said about roe, this is a fallow question. Yes, 243 will see to a fallow no problem, but for them, you are going to want a decent deer bullet. Good heavy soft point or a Nosler Partition should do the trick. It`s not on logic because you`ve lost control of your feelings.. You lack restraint and cannot handle pressure especially from fellow experience guy`s.. Anyway your little outburst is forgiven and was literally water off a ducks back I can see that your obvious

  5. They have been making scopes for many people for year..AGS for example...I rate them very good value for money optically, but the ones with the Allen key turret lock p*** me off....
  6. Fultons at Bisley can sometimes help on this sort of stuff...also Fred James, the NRA armourer at Bisley is also quite often helpful in this area!!
  7. No, this is not correct. The only animal where this does apply is deer - the Deer Act specifically states that expanding ammunition must be used. Other animals are afforded no such protection, and thus the use of FMJ is legal. In some circumstances it is a useful tool (though personally I wouldn't, I like being humane), for example shooting an animal where you intend to keep the pelt. sorry but it was changed a few years ago you cant buy exspanding ammo if you dont have it on your certificate and it also states fmj is for target shooting only As has been said..FMJ is perfectl
  8. No!! Many firearms departments are staffed with temps who hardly know the time of day, most, sure as hell don't have a clue about Firearms legislation!! You have a 28 day period to get the forms delivered, despite their MANY shortcomings I have only known firearms dept to lose forms a couple of times...... But once for 9 months!!! (let me qualify a little...amongst my many sins I am Secretary of a Home Office approved rifle club at Bisley and as such have a lot of dealings with a lot of different Firearms Depertments......PS. strange as it may seem the one I rate the best is the
  9. I'm still looking for a good one for my HMR..done the Hog, Sak, Sako, DM80 and the Sirocco...think there was another I have forgotten...none of them much cop, running the Sirocco at the moment and not impressed...I would say the DM80 I borrowed was the best>>>>JUST...but it was also the biggest and heaviest and most expensive...mods and the HMR still present a dilema for me..not happy with any of them!! Edit...I remember it was the Whisper...FORGET IT..it sure as hell isn't worth the money!!!!
  10. of course mate, a CZ452 .22LR SAK Mod, Harris Bi-pod, Rimfiremagic trigger kit, running winchester ammo. I worked out the basics other than ammo...I was curious about the scope???
  11. agree with you there Deker you have to be in the right place at the right time--in this case pure luck KP What's that old saying, "seems the harder I work the luckier I get"
  12. The way it goes sometimes, I'm always happy to get a couple in a night, 4, and I'm over the moon, and 6 is a rare event!
  13. Just been asked by a guy I am mentoring about deer attractants (not Calls). Various different concoctions available which are apparently irresistible to different deer for different reasons at different times of year..but I have no experience of any, never found the need so far...anyone used any deer attractants?? If so what sort and with what results? Does anyone make their own?? Cheers
  14. Well..this is an interesting comment...I suspect several will have a favourite, and probably different cartridge type. I rate the 5 for many uses...but I struggle to understand any circumstances where a 7.5 28 would be better that a 32, 5 on rabbits!
  15. Is is not uncommon to have different views, and hearty debate is where forums such as this excel. I rarely see any reason to hurl personal abuse around, it seldom if ever adds anything constructive to most threads. So why is it that a number of fairly recent arrivals seem to be adding nothing, hurling abuse and simply looking for a scrap....oh yes, and the ones I have looked at have an empty profile.... but are world leading experts with years of experience of EVERYTHING!!
  16. Totally agree with the old doctrine.... but tell that to the army......and.... ... unloading a Rimfire or Cf to have a glance around is hardly rocket science!!! Or indeed, NOT loading it until target acquired!!
  17. Snap I am not aware of any such legislation, can you advise where you heard this?? Cheers
  18. Apparently not...but they hardly cost a fortune.....£1.95 each here... http://www.jsramsbottom.com/cgi-bin/jsr.cg...NG/A_slings.HTM
  19. The basis of what you say is obviously correct but are you therefore saying NO lamp man, then NO shooting?? And walking around the countryside at night with more than one can create too much distraction/noise/smell, etc! This is an area of potentially large debate, I struggle to understand the safety angle of many who lamp themselves with a hand held lamp and then shoot as well, seems like some balancing act to me, and potentially dangerous of course....could just be me though as I never could multitask that well. Lone shooting.... then a gun mounted lamp is the best answer to me, but
  20. Depending where you hit bunny the fragments will often go right through too...I had two in the sights yesterday, one up, and the other behind with his head just out of the hole...TWO dead bunnies with one shot...happens sometimes but this is the first time the circumstances have come together to do it with the 17g HMR. No problem shooting bunny with a SOLID or FMJ round, perfectly legal and likely to do less damage. As has also been said, 17g HMR do tend to do a lot of carcase damage, so if you are looking at the table you are still best to consider the head shot!!
  21. To be honest there are very few "bad" guns out there...simple fact is CZ offer a pretty wide choice at competitive prices and they work. Sako are ok but I don't consider them worth the extra, Anschutz make lovely and accurate guns but do you intend to try for the Olympics or shoot a few rabbit? Marlin are little used in the UK although big in the US, Savage, Ruger, Remington, etc., etc all have good and bad points and all have loyal followere and those that hate them. I run CZ Style in .22lr and HMR and CZ American in .22WMR. I am very happy with them all, but if I were to ever "
  22. Now I may be getting mixed up but I think the early versions were up to .25...BUT DON'T QUOTE ME. Most certainly the more recent models have a much wider calibre range (More hole sizes) and therefore have a hole about as small as possible for each calibre......a NEW .223 now fitted to a .243 I suggest is not a good idea at all....BUT ..why don't you simply ask Andrew Banner at... http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/sound_moderators.htm
  23. Hi all I have 500, Wolf 55g HP .223 Boxer primed available, still factory sealed. You will obviously need the appropriate paperwork and will have to be in a position to collect from Berkshire area (I travel a bit shooting so just may be able to meet you a bit closer somewhere) These are for sale from my stock as I have now got another source of Home Brew ammo which is better on performance. But let me say I have used these for several years (as have a number of people I know at Bisley) and they offer excellent value for money. They have given me V Bulls at 500 yards and knocked d
  24. He's possibly right...only the owner or his appointed agent can lend you his gun to use in his presence in England...it's a Little more complicated than that, but I'm not sure about Scotland! Talk to your FEO, I'm sure he will advise you!
