  1. This question goes round and round and the fact is size shouldn't really matter, it should be about topography/location. But the simple view from many Police is commonly that size does matter. I have had an Open FAC since day one and regularly shoot in peoples pocket handkerchief size back gardens safely. High seat could be considered if they give you a hard time.
  2. Hi. I have had a .22lr for 35 years but I have just got a wmr added to my ticket, not got a rifle yet but looking for another CZ. What range do you take rabbits at and what do you zero at, I'm thinking of using 30 Grain Hornady V max. I've never had a problem with the .22lr but range is a problem now that the legs are getting a bit older. DD I very rarely take out my WMR for rabbits, I find my HMR takes over on them when the .22lr runs out of legs. My WMR is used mainly for Canada geese and fox. These days I tend to use Hornady 30g V-Max for virtually everything in it, accur
  3. Did I miss something, which part of that comes as a surprise to you. The same can potentially happen with any calibre! Yep you missed something, it didn't suprise me in the slightest (seen the consequences twice before) others however in the original thread may have argued that a lodged bullet was nigh on impossible. Seems like some people have a lot to learn then.

  5. It happens to them all, not just Federal. Split cases are also common in all makes of HMR and plenty of calibres have hang fires and dud rounds! The Majority of these are Hornady...........

  7. Do what you like as I have already said. There ISN'T a Book, haven't you noticed that yet. "there is NO law and NO precedent, there is conjecture and debate and hot air from the Proof House as to whether any individual RFD will/should buy it or not" Jackson Rifles have taken expensive Legal advice and been campaigning for years to make the point that re proof is NOT required.
  8. reproofing: if you want to sell it, it does. if you want to keep it, it does not need it. comment for the original thread maker, I would highly recommend 18.5 inchs. when the ammo is consistent (which is very rare) my 18.5 inch barrel will shoot a few out at 0.25 inch c2c at 120 yards. but its more like an inch usually. I firmly believe this is due to the rounds not the barrel on my 18.5 inch browning 52. forget the 14 inch dude its a little to short. NO it doesn't, there is NO law and NO precedent, there is conjecture and debate and hot air from the Proof House as to whether an
  9. That's somewhat like saying Ferrari, Bentley or Ford KA, there is no discernible difference in the time it takes me to get to work in the rush hour! Try the Seven Bridge to London run at 03.00 in the morning and see the difference, how many target shooters do you know that use a 12" .22lr barrel? I'm sorry. I didn't know the O.P was a target shooter. To avoid confusion, yes, 16" will be fine. You over generalised, always dangerous, that was the point I was making, doesn't matter if he was a target short or not! There is a VERY discernible difference between 12-24" b

  12. I have NEVER liked those Hogue stocks on the Howas although others positively have an orgasm over them, that's the way of life. I was at Bisley on Sunday on 200 and 100 Yards Short Siberia, very gusty, I was probably there or there abouts with my .223 and was happy in the circumstances, nothing wrong with that at 300 yards. Well done, I would be happy with those groups, but my serious completion days are over. The fact is with a half decent barrel and trigger and the right load development that is not exceptional, achieve that in the field and you get Brownie points! ATB!

  14. Have you actually found anyone yet or are you simply inundated with everyone saying what a great offer if only......................?
  15. The vast majority of .22lr are 1-16 twist, on that basis many have suggested no less than a 16" barrel, that being one complete revolution, perhaps, but from the perspective of bullet stabilisation I have yet to see the science/physics. I have a lot of respect for Anschutz, won a few competitions with their first guns into the UK many years ago, so, if they produce 14" barrels I guess they work. Just the same I have heard many comments about not less than 16". There is also a lot of talk about .22lr having burnt all their powder in the first 12"-14", B******t, there are a LOT of diff
  16. I suspect you could count the number of people with equipment to home load HMR in this country on less than 1 finger!
  17. There are lots of videos on the web.... http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=fitting+trigger+kit+on+cz452&view=detail&mid=4C578118CCF3912F52244C578118CCF3912F5224&first=0&FORM=NVPFVR&qpvt=fitting+trigger+kit+on+cz452
  18. Yes, but I still wouldn't trust the engineering on a big/vicious centrefire. I have the latest model 30 Sidewinder, 6-24x56 on my .243! It's fine.
  19. That's what should happen at renewal, in effect you start again, but simply from the position you already have a SGC. If you had any issues previously they have already been resolved. Any NEW application for a SGC asks if you have previously held one, so they simply check records and should only be interested in anything that happened recently. There should be NOTHING different about a renewal to a Grant, except you already hold a SGC.
  20. Unless you are convinced you don't have a use for a while then renew it. Just the same, why should you have a problem if you let it go and re-apply in years to come.
  21. There are a LOT more options than 16 or 20". As above, get what you need!
  22. No experience of this as I don't have an FAC but would it not be prudent to write down .22 Moderator rather than .22 LR Moderator? I understand many people use centrefire moderators on rimfire guns because they give superior supression. It would seem therefore that specifying a LR moderator would narrow your options. So question is this allowed to be just calibre specific rather than model specific? In fact I've heard of people even using larger claibre moderators. So again the question would just "moderator" suffice? Some people may, it is not common and very possible/probable
