  1. Personally I don't like torches that are mounted on guns. Firstly it ain't good to point a weapon at something that you don't intend to shoot and secondly it is just so unwieldy when you just want a quick flick round. Sometimes there is more than one thing to look at.
  2. I hate the wet and the cold. Roll on global warming, long days, short nights, young women with tight T shorthand short shorts. Pigeon shooting over wheat and swaithed rape stumbles.
  3. Is it worth giving the chamber a bloody good scrubbing with a phosphor bronze brush and a drop of Ed's red.? EDIT. I use Rizzla filters to clean stuff out of .22s. they seem to do the job quite well.
  4. It's very satisfying when you really put the full charge onto a real full crown carrion crow. They hit the ground with he'll of a thump. I remember walking along a tall thick hedge and a bigun was cruising along the hedge line. I knew that it was coming because it was giving out the odd raucous caw. It was big and it floated over the top of the hedge. Suddenly it saw me and flaired it's wings like a stall.! Too late. The pattern of 6,s hit home.
  5. Going back to the original post, I'd like to know how the bullet lube is causing extraction problems. There was a time where Eley match 22lr had a big drop of solidified lube on the tip. Some rifle shooters at the club were removing it. Some weren't. The wax didnt seem to alter the accuracy on target at all and I never heard of any incident of failure to eject a case. I've never seen or experienced any sort of build up of lube causing extraction problems. I've seen actions that have had a fair build up of a mix of lube and brass flakes But not to The point of a jam up. When the BSA mar
  6. Yep we're all bar my, but there you go. We sound so similar in our outlook. I love to feel the wind and the odd drop of rain on the wind. People think I'm a total loon wandering the land on my own at night. But I love it stalking a target or being elusive if plod comes out or some do gooder comes out looking for me with their grannies path torch. I've had people walk right past me both during the day and at night. One time I had the dog with me and a bloke started to shout at me and walk towards me. The dog and I slipped around an oak tree and he was going past on the other side. As I
  7. Yep, the flash from these is pretty frightening I've seen them cracking across onto long strands of grass. The difference between the pond and a fence is that charlie can run and scale the fence, ( very easily) whereas for Charlie to get past the fence round your pond he has to jump into the pond. Is that a small cherry tomato by the front leg of Charlie.??? great write ups but I can never understand how farmers lay out tens of thousands on the crops (chicken) in this case and then rely on someone else to protect them as a fun hobby for nothing. .? I know we enjoy it. I woul
  8. It's not just his current behaviour. It's the way he has treated loyal and honest people in all sorts of ways over many years. Talk about being a spoilt brat bully. No one on here would work under him for two minutes. At present any of the staff have been told that if they start looking for or enquiring for other jobs, they are out. Most of the Republican hierarchy are shit scared to say that he should conceed for fear of him. That is a dictator. Go look at how dictators operate. But they all come a gutster in the end.
  9. I had a thought this afternoon, and it was that Trump had modeled himself on J.R. Ewing of Dallas fame. You remember J.R. Ewing.? You do punks.!!! Pretty much the same spoilt brat behaviour . I wonder if it will be on primetime tv when they drag him out of the Whitehouse kicking, screaming and stamping his feet. Still it's probably all fake news.
  10. We used to cut through the tail skin at the base and then get a stick and split it. The stick was clamped around the inner bone bit. Foot on arse of Fox and a steady pull stripped the tail skin off. The tail soon dried out and without all of the bone and meatier didn't go rot and maggots. Time was I took a Charlie carcass home. Mrs went mad and I had to get rid.... NOW. The beast was lousy with fleas. The poor blighter must have been greatful that I'd shot it.
  11. ??? you never know, the hound might sink it's fangs right into her arse right up to the hilt. ????
  12. As known. On fox drives you have to have the right people in the right places. The amount of times it's been, bang, bang, .... where is it then.? and the bloke says......l "It was hit hard.!! Or "I saluted it as it went over the horizon" !!! And the ones where you need to be behind an oak tree and the excitable gun on the next stand. And the guns who have to wander off and start talking to the next gun or they start smoking or they just had to have a leak and it was in hand, inexplicably Charlie always tends to know and slip through the line at these points. Still that seems to be
  13. Years ago, eighties, we used to have about three driven fox shoots held fortnightly over the bird reserves down at Dungeness near the power station. Sometimes there were about sixty foxes shot per shoot day. The warden kept records and it was clear that every year the numbers of ground nesting birds increased. Those shoots held over a BIG area of shingle were very odd. Nothing like a normal Fox drive in farm or woodland.
  14. As soon as conditions are put on shooting, it's time to forget it. It their problem. So why are they not addressing that problem theirselves. One of the son in laws was offered shooting on what looked like excellent ground. Why weren't people shooting on it.? The owner's of this piece of laid down a list of conditions as long as your arm. These were totally unworkable. See ya, Sort your own problem out.
  15. these invitation shoot the Fox missions are always full of conditions about can't do this or that. It makes doing it almost impossible and it's their fault that they got Fox troubles in the first place. Hows that for shortness.?
  16. Very difficult to operate on these big free range enclosures. A bloke who lives nearby used to work on a farm that had free range pens.... 4 acres... we went and lamped around and did see a fleeting eye right across the other side of the enclosure but nothing else. We walked the enclosure fence and couldn't find a hole or anything.. this bloke spent days trying to find out what was happening and eventually found a trail of pad marks in the mud inside the fence. It turned out that when the fence had been dug in and back filled the fence had a bit of a dip and a coresponding high spot of ea
  17. Naah. Are you really going to drag that lot across muddy fields with gun, battery and lamp stuff. Been there done all that. The novelty soon wears off when your wellies are like football's of mud and by the time you get set up the target is in the next county. If you look on YouTube at shooting cape buffalo the black fellow runs to the front with a pair of sticks tied together with a bit of Bailer twine for the shooter to use as a steady. I made a pair of sticks out of a scrap road sign frame. But I generally shoot Free hand out to eighty paces. That's apart from the price. Still it's wha
  18. Over the years I have noticed that there is a variance of bullet diameter. Sometimes a bullet will be either tight or loose to chamber. These do impact in different places. Loose ones tend to bang and shoot high. I have tried to chrono rounds but haven't had any success because of the low light conditions inside of a range although I have done it outside. I have thought about clambering a round and then measuring the engraved bullet diameter. And /or machining up a go no go gauge. There are only a certain number of variables and If the primer and powder charges are machine controlled and
  19. Further to this post, I took a box of the Winchester subsonics to the rifle club and put some through my Anschutz target rifle. They were a bit inaccurate And nowhere near a target load like Eley match or even Eley club. I dont know why American 22lr is so variable. Most of it is so over the top that it is nearly all on the edge of being high velocity. Dependant on the temperature and humidity a lot is cracky. Accuracy is all important. There ain't any point in having an elephant rifle if you can't hit the elephant. It must be that the 22lr is something that you would give a kid to
  20. It should never have got to this state of affairs. A major nation divided. For what .? Trump ran the country like his real estate business. Philadelphia's mayor has told Donald trump to "put his big boy pants on" and deal with this seemingly insurmountable election defeat. Mayor Jim Kenney said " he needs to acknowledge that he lost. And he needs to congratulate the winner. Instead of claiming he won the election. There are more important things to deal with. Over 200,000 dead from corona and the American economy suffering and trump has said that it's all fake news and covid has been beat
  21. That's true and it's all part of the rules. We have recounts here also. I remember as many as four recounts at an election. But nowadays it's machines and they don't make mistakes. All of this bollocks about fake ballot papers and from the dead ect is nonsense. Where the trumpets alleged this there was ONE from someone who had died since the ballot paper had been issued. It was pulled out of the pile by the system. Just because these crazy desparate claims are being thrown into the mix doesn't make them true any more than accusing women of being witches back in the days of the inquisit
  22. Misguided Faith. No doubt you'll be hot foot down to the bookies or online to lay your Faith on the line with cash. You never know, best of three.? Now that the result is in there won't be any rocking of the boat because it would be the system trying to break the system. And everyone will be looking forward.
  23. Go figure out that the most powerful nation chose such a self serving narcissist. And How so many sheep blindly follow. Still i dont suppose donny will feature on the Christmas card lists of many American politicians who can't stand the clod. And that includes most of the Republican party. So he looks like tomorrow's fish and chip paper. I wonder how long it will be before the financial depths of his dealings and dodgy dealings will be plumbed. It looks like the most vocal backed the wrong horse. Forget all of the fake litigation. there ain't any basis and the court cases are already bein
  24. What a disgraceful performance. No matter the politics involved. It's like the kid that's going to take his ball back home because he can't get his own way. And to think that the world is in the hands of people like Putin and trump. One a gangster and the other a narcissist. What's the matter with people. All the trump supporters shouting and hollering. It's about the same as the anti brexit brigade shouting and hollering outside parliment.
  25. A top piece of kit. Everyone has one.
