  1. To be fair I wouldn’t expect to be hitting things like him but shows what can be achieved with a practice and some simple tweaks
  2. FairPlay mate nice to see you and wee man getting out, how you getting on with the catty, have put this video up in the catty section but shows what can be achieved with one, I’ve done it before by just wrapping the flatlands round the fork if you dont want to cut them down but either way makes them very usable and a lot less effort needed so more usable for weeman ??
  3. Wood pigeons are a bit dopey at the moment so thought I would go out for a little bike ride and harvest a few but like you say every time I spot one and get my catty out someone seems to pop up out of nowhere, think an early morning mooch may be the only way as these newbies don’t seem to start until 9am, had a few hours on the foreshore yesterday morning and saw no one until 9 then it’s like someone just opened the door and they are everywhere
  4. Salt content in drift wood is really bad for wood burners as the salt condenses and rots the flu and even the stove over time, I could run about 10 wood burners on the stuff washed up by me but won’t touch it, breaks my heart as I love anything that’s free and still usable ?
  5. Some of the dogs I,m seeing dragged round by the lard arses look like they are experiencing there first bit of exercise like the owners, one of my daughters workmates has even had neighbours knocking the door asking if they can borrow his dog so they can go outside for a walk, it’s like the twilight zone ????
  6. Yesterday afternoon after beach combing and pork rolling I started to make myself an ula, always fancied one since watching Agnes hailstone chopping up everything and anything with hers on life below zero, looks like it makes a lot more sense than a normal blade and has been used for decades by ancient people so just putting the finishing touches to this made with an old angle grinder diamond cutting disc found on the floor and a little scrap of ply, sanded back to show the lamination, I,m on week two, keeping as busy as possible but still struggling like mad, everything seems a bit surreal
  7. Always admired the way Agnes, the Inuit woman on life below zero deals with her butchery, fish, seals, carribou or anything else she uses an old Eskimo tool called an ula, one blade for everything, so I’ve just made myself one won’t be doing any volume of butchery but for the odd bits and pieces I do get will be giving it a go, cost nothing but time and as I have a lot of that on my hands at the minute who cares, an old angle grinder blade discarded on the floor and a scrap of ply sanded down to show the layers of laminate ?
  8. Here you go mate a picture says a thousand words ?
  9. I see sand martins on the Gloucester sharpness canal most years if you want to see some closer to home, they must nest near purton as that’s were I normally see them on the water ???
  10. Low and slow, was going to get the spit out, but got carried away with other things so 3hrs on 100 degrees in the oven will do, got some of those part cooked rolls you just finish off in the oven should keep us in pork rolls for a couple of days, job done
  11. Mid day, boned out a belly of pork, stuffed and rolled with spices and madras paste and a tray of ribs in spicy tomato, days are just so long when you can’t go to work or out in the van mooching, trouble is will be skinning up by 3pm to try and stay still, starting to understand how zoo animals feel ???
  12. Been out scavenging along the high tide line early doors, something I did as a kid for fishing floats, sadly a lot more hypodermic needles and clipper lighters today, but did get one crystal waggler, one jointed pike plug with wire trace a decent hard hat and best of all a 10kg bag of instant light charcoal, passed a few hours and I can have a bbq later
  13. iPad for me as well mate, phone screen would be to small for my eyes, I struggle reading texts as it is
  14. Done a few nights fishing out there in the past they sound like there in your swim when they start roaring at 4 in the morning, gets the arse twitching for sure
  15. Snap, I loose or break one or two a year, would be in tears if I’d payed more than a score for one
  16. Google earth is your friend when looking for these gems, I use it all the time to look over land before I go mooching, find isolated parking spots and ways in and out of places ?
  17. There is a house near me with one of those little electricity sub stations in the garden, I was doing some work in a neighbouring house some years back when a funeral car pulled up at the house with the electricery in the garden, got chatting with the guy were I was working and he said to me the house is cursed every one that lives there has died of cancer within a few years, was it just coincidence who knows, but anyone that thinks government cares more for them than money should look into how they reacted after discovering the link between tobacco and cancer, in short they put asbestos filte

Bit off topic but how’s Walt/Darren doing not seen much of him and remember you saying he was having a few issues ?? Hope he’s good ?
  19. It’s ok branding him eccentric but he was not a decent man, he Inherited longleat through birthrights and shite on his family, don’t really have an effect on me but a wanker is always a wanker even though people don’t like to talk ill of the dead ??
  20. Another tool bites the dust, seems this virus may have a mission ???
  21. Have had one for years mate great battery life and good torch, I have a rat tail switch and gun mount with mine as well makes a good little air gun lamp, think I got mine from abroad when the American police used them ?
  22. Out of likes or my iPad is playing up ?
  23. The Trent had some massive fish in years back if my memory is right didn’t it have a few power stations along its length that warmed the water, the carp are still there just not sat in the warm water outlets anymore
  24. Most rivers and canals contain good carp if your willing to look and they get a fresh stocking every time we get flooding, in 2007 I think linear fisheries in Oxfordshire lost around 3000 fast growing fish into a tributary of the Thames,( just one example) I spent the best part of 10 years catching canal carp from all around the southwest never done anything bigger than mid 20s but all on my own terms competing with the fish and not every man and his dog, what part of the country you in ? Sure there is something near you ??

    Hygiene

Was told many years ago by a vet, when they actually cared about animals first and money second that if a dog could clean its own cuts it would be fine, but cuts were they can’t lick will turn bad,
