  1. Sorry mate not being rude but just saw this, yes they are fine I still have one here somewhere think most of us thought we were the bollacks buying are first proper catty like that

  3. Just spatchcocked and seasoned a chicken wrapped in cling film to absorb all the flavours will put it on the coals in a few hours have some fresh tiger bread french sticks and a few pints of Cornish rattler to swill it down with, life on lockdowns not so bad ?
  4. Can’t get your link to work mate, how are you doing, must be struggling your on here? I,ve not seen so much of my local area since I was a kid, even cycled down to hallen yesterday and back along Blaise, my bikes almost as old as me but was quite nice don’t no how much longer I can last though, take care mate hopefully see you in better times soon
  5. Funny enough I was on the quantocks just before lockdown, what a lovely part of the world that is and very overlooked because of the more famous hills and moors around it, the view from the bridge is probably better than the reality of walking it but I can’t drive to my normal walking spots so I just got to make do with what’s on my doorstep,
  6. Sadly mate another old saying people should heed a bit more is,,,there are no friends in business, sad reading back over these pages makes me realise why I have become more of a loner as time goes on, each and every little dirty trick that hits you through life makes you pull further back, I,m at the stage now I spend around 90% of my time alone and am happier than ever
  7. Don’t know if it’s been mentioned as I haven’t read everything but if your after seeds give barneys farm a look, and may I also suggest Gorilla skittles, best smoke I’ve had in a long time ?
  8. I think the mynah bird is a member of the starling family and they can hold a conversation, had one years back that swore like mad during conversation ?
  9. On my local lock down exercise walk this morning along the foreshore and realised that as a kid to get to the other side of the river involved waiting for the tide to be up and a penny to the ferryman who would take you across, the river is the county line and back in the day the pubs on the other side stayed open longer than on this side, so if you missed the ferry back it often involved a drunken swim back across the river, today it is a 10 minute drive on the motorway the little green shed used to have a turnstile inside that you put your penny in before boarding the ferry which was just an
  10. FairPlay mate some lovely grain on that, nice work
  11. Just a spec in the sky but have had a pair of peregrines circling above the house for a few days ?
  12. FairPlay my internet is going a little bit mental, ?
  13. To be fair I wouldn’t expect to be hitting things like him but shows what can be achieved with a practice and some simple tweaks

  16. FairPlay mate nice to see you and wee man getting out, how you getting on with the catty, have put this video up in the catty section but shows what can be achieved with one, I’ve done it before by just wrapping the flatlands round the fork if you dont want to cut them down but either way makes them very usable and a lot less effort needed so more usable for weeman ??
  17. Wood pigeons are a bit dopey at the moment so thought I would go out for a little bike ride and harvest a few but like you say every time I spot one and get my catty out someone seems to pop up out of nowhere, think an early morning mooch may be the only way as these newbies don’t seem to start until 9am, had a few hours on the foreshore yesterday morning and saw no one until 9 then it’s like someone just opened the door and they are everywhere
  18. Salt content in drift wood is really bad for wood burners as the salt condenses and rots the flu and even the stove over time, I could run about 10 wood burners on the stuff washed up by me but won’t touch it, breaks my heart as I love anything that’s free and still usable ?
  19. Some of the dogs I,m seeing dragged round by the lard arses look like they are experiencing there first bit of exercise like the owners, one of my daughters workmates has even had neighbours knocking the door asking if they can borrow his dog so they can go outside for a walk, it’s like the twilight zone ????
  20. Yesterday afternoon after beach combing and pork rolling I started to make myself an ula, always fancied one since watching Agnes hailstone chopping up everything and anything with hers on life below zero, looks like it makes a lot more sense than a normal blade and has been used for decades by ancient people so just putting the finishing touches to this made with an old angle grinder diamond cutting disc found on the floor and a little scrap of ply, sanded back to show the lamination, I,m on week two, keeping as busy as possible but still struggling like mad, everything seems a bit surreal
  21. Always admired the way Agnes, the Inuit woman on life below zero deals with her butchery, fish, seals, carribou or anything else she uses an old Eskimo tool called an ula, one blade for everything, so I’ve just made myself one won’t be doing any volume of butchery but for the odd bits and pieces I do get will be giving it a go, cost nothing but time and as I have a lot of that on my hands at the minute who cares, an old angle grinder blade discarded on the floor and a scrap of ply sanded down to show the layers of laminate ?
  22. Here you go mate a picture says a thousand words ?
  23. I see sand martins on the Gloucester sharpness canal most years if you want to see some closer to home, they must nest near purton as that’s were I normally see them on the water ???
  24. Low and slow, was going to get the spit out, but got carried away with other things so 3hrs on 100 degrees in the oven will do, got some of those part cooked rolls you just finish off in the oven should keep us in pork rolls for a couple of days, job done
  25. Mid day, boned out a belly of pork, stuffed and rolled with spices and madras paste and a tray of ribs in spicy tomato, days are just so long when you can’t go to work or out in the van mooching, trouble is will be skinning up by 3pm to try and stay still, starting to understand how zoo animals feel ???
