  1. I would just add to my earlier post and suggest you visit an RFD who can let you try before you buy, there are a few around if you look hard although you may need to travel. You could of course visit an active range and see if you can see anyone there using the cat or compatto who might let you try one out. Phil
  2. Hmmmm, tricky one because I really wanted a Compatto waiting and waiting for it to be released but when I got my hands on it, I really felt somewhat disappointed. The gun felt crap, cheap plastic stock which just did not feel good in the shoulder. There were plenty of niggling issues as it seems with most new model rifles nowadays which I believe have been ironed out. We have a member, seamaster, who is not on so much of late and he had two, one good and one not so good. I am a recent convert to FX Wildcats with a .177 and .22 so I will fly the flag in that camp. I personally think
  3. Good info, I hope he can get it sorted, he does not need that happening. Phil
  4. Well the rat perm is looking good. I met with the dairy farmer today and invited to go on Friday to look around the farm but I got the thumbs up plus he said the farm across the road has loads of rats so an introduction is on the cards for that one as well. Just need a woodland shoot and I will be totally made up. Phil
  5. I have only got back into live quarry shooting last year after a long lay off and have one perm of 250 acres with airgun and shotgun shooting. It offers me pigeon/crow with both gun types and rabbits via the rifle. If possible, I would love a good rat perm and a woodland shoot and I would be more than happy with that. I have a meeting tomorrow for a rat perm so fingers crossed on that. Phil
  6. Interesting mount set up Si. As a matter of interest, why don't you use a Reach Forward mount which will allow you to open the distance between mounts which would perhaps produce a more stable mounting position. Just a thought. Phil
  7. I am not sure about BAR and sweeping statements. I only know personally of three impact owners and they are very happy with them plus one of our members, the chap who now has a YouTube channel with the odd competition chucked in so draw your own conclusions. I did read on AGF that FX have over 1000 impacts on back order so perhaps some QC failure may be happening. Phil
  8. Hey Sean, I see you have just bought a NiteSite Viper and WHAT a price. I know a dedicated night scope may be the dogs danglers but a Pulsar is too expensive for me and even the D700/800 is bloody high. I can pick up a Photon for about £300 but as said usually need an extra lens to give the best results. My Viper suits me but it must be said that I don't do a lot of night shooting so cannot justify spending more, perhaps if that changes I may go for a D700/800 add on and confess I would love to try one but having never seen one in the flesh, don't really know what they are like, only k
  9. Depending on distance Mark but 90% of the time x10 otherwise x6. So why did I buy a scope that does x20, in all honesty I just found the image very crisp and clear although the recticle was much finer than I was used to, avoiding them like hell as I never thought I would get on with such a fine cross hairs but it took no time at all. Phil
  10. The problem for me anyway with high mag is that the slightest movement makes target acquisition much harder and if you are free hand shooting.................forget it. Whilst I have MTC Mamba Lite scopes on all but one rifle, I love my MTC Genesis 5-20 x 50 I have on my HW100, nice glass, fine recticle and although my eyesight is not so good now, I have no issue with this scope at all. Phil
  11. Ah, see where you are coming from. In truth, I had to have a reference for my shotgun anyway and as I was renewing that at the same time as applying for FAC so only needed one more ref and job done. Interestingly, the perm was much easier than I expected. I gave the farmer's name / address and the approx size of the perm which in this case was 250 acres, the farmer was not even contacted nor did I have to walk the firearms officer around the perm. I know it is still an FAC but I think air FAC is not given the same level of importance as a live ammo FAC request. I may well be totally
  12. Hmmm I guess I was just lucky then Walshie. Phil
  13. Yes a good point but I have to say, I found it to be really hassle free but I may just have been lucky perhaps because I was not asking for live ammo FAC. Phil
  14. I have forgotten what the topic was......
  15. Quite agree David, my point was it is an FAC end of, however having the ability to reduce power for confined area if needed. I was not suggesting to use it in none FAC approved perms. Phil
  16. The very first gun was a Gat spring pistol, 30 shillings or £1.50 Then onto the rifle, BSA Meteor .22 and I think it was about £5 Phil
  17. Remind me, what ft/lb is you Rapid and what weight are the piledrivers. Cracking groups though. Phil
  18. 1966 to go on a BSA Meteor .22 and a local farm manager gave three of us school boys permission to shoot rats on the potato dump,.................great days, I remember the three of us sitting on empty tin drums with a shared bottle of lemonade and a fag..................I will stop because I am starting to ramble..........yes it may be an age thing before you buggers comment. Funny, I can't remember what make the scope was but I think it might have been a Tasco. Phil
  19. Just nipping back to FAC air for a moment, I was in Pickering Guns today where the owner, Rob, is a keen FX user. I spoke to him about the Royal and although he doesn't stock them, he said the feedback he has had regarding them was very good. Now I doubt for one minute this would float your boat Mitch but I was looking at an FX Impact FAC that he had just taken delivery on today. I don't really like the look of them but the adjustment available to the owner makes this a very versatile piece of kit but sadly my pension will not run to one without selling a few more guns. The thought of
  20. Wise words from wise members. I second the second hand route which will give you the chance of buying a better quality gun than your budget may extend to if buying new. Phil
  21. Still think you should buy Ethan one of those Jimmy, after all he will be able to take you around the fields as age creeps in mate. I KNOW. Phil
  22. I would prefer a week day but not much good if you lot are going on Sat, the joy of retirement, visit places when it is quiet and quite often cheaper. Phil
  23. If you look at new fac airguns, they all seem to be around 30ft/lb for .22 and 40-50ft/lb for .25. Just cross checked my FX booklet 2016 while doing this which is the same as above with .177 at 18ft/lb and .30 at 75-80ft/lb Phil
  24. if its springers only its birds in the bag shooting springers off a bench is cheating atb si I don't think I could even hold the TX free hand long enough to aim straight................................................well that's my excuse sorted Phil
  25. Mitch, it might be worth checking with your perm owners to establish if they have been contacted by the police previously regarding FAC usage on their land, if they have and it was successful for the shooter at that time, keep that one at the top of your references if needed as it will show on their system and automatically pass. Just a thought. Phil
