  1. I personally wouldn't recommend a greyhound as a hunting dog to anyone. Every chase could be their last.
  2. So last year we had the terrible flooding. I reckon we are in store for some more this coming season. I honestly think that we are again unprepared and we are in a worse place this time than last year. We still have the bumbling bafoon as Taoiseach and the economy has gone to hell. I think if this winter we get some bad weather and nothing is done properly there will be a nationwide revolt. I am surprised we have all held out this long. Flooding, Arctic conditions? I wonder what awaits us? just a reminder
  3. I reckon, it has a lot to do with what the fox would have heard before, like in an area that only has hares, then a hare distress call works well, but if its in an area that only holds rabbits then a rabbit call will work better. Some foxes react well to rat and mice squeeks. Another fox might come in for a mating call. I have used electronic callers, but have found they tend to scare the fox away. I find making the sound manually works much better. I usually whistle between my teeth for rabbit sound, squeek my lips for rat sounds, or squeek on my hand for hare. Usually the main reason the fo
  4. Those two orange dogs are beautiful beasts. Surely there most be Irish terrier and Deerhound in them
  5. very good, thanks for that excellent thanks
  6. complete and utter Chinky shite! In a normal situation they would have both ran away from each other, its only because they are trapped in close quarters that they are getting on each other's nerves. Thats not even a fight. Stupid youtube shite. Some people seem to love this stuff. Just wait till someone posts the baited bear dog fights, or baited puma dog fights, or the wolf killing sheep vid, there is numerous old copied "animal versus animal" video on the net and they are all set up, for bloody entertainment. Watch the discover channel, or BBC wildlife for the real wildlife entertai
  7. Its all fantasy lads. What would a Karabash x saluki grey be able to catch? Humans? Possibly wild boar? I imagine they wouldnt be any good working in a pack, they would just turn on each other, then you would have to contend with a pack of mongrel monster beasts all fighting. Imagine the independance and ferocity of the kangal crossed with the stubborn aloofness of the saluki! Its just ludicrous fantasy. Speed and determination kills quarry, not ferocity.
  8. Dont feed too much cabbage. You are better off with cooked veg; brussells sprouts, turnip, carrots, garden peas. Dont buy lambs's liver, its a rip off, just ask for a Beef liver and you will get a massive bag of liver for free Dont feed too much liver, a small tablespoon of liver every other day is plenty. Lamb bones are the best. Beef bones can be very hard and splinter. No harm in giving some porridge or rice to give them an extra carb boost for the winter or during a week of hard work. They store carbs as glycogen in their muscles I usually avoid pork, but feed it if I ha
  9. I know a fella who has the racing type IG. It is a deadly little thing. Very fast and agile for an IG. I reckon modern whippets get a lot of their traits from the IG.
  10. well done to you, you son, the ferrets and your dogs! keep it up
  11. Hi Jamie, interesting clip there. I can see there is some differences to the way those rabbits are like compared to in my particular area. Those rabbits (in the clip) all seem to be sitting well out, and seem to be just running around aimlessly (perhaps?), and the dogs that are used are very greyhoundy, running wide with big turns and long strides. A dog like that wouldn't neccesarily do too well over here. Over in my area, the rabbits tend to be very close to the hole, and dart fast straight for the warren, if the dog doesn't snatch the rabbit up on the first turn, he usually looses it. So m

  13. Well Blue one, the smallest I saw was in a photo on a greyhound forum, and the bitch had a genuine pedigree. She was 23 inches tall and about 40 pound weight.
  14. There's more rabbits down that way, and so more running dogs. Up my way, its all springers, pointers and setters. Same situation, a dog is only there to make a quick few €'s
  15. I assume that the fella who owns the dog, is the man taking the photo. Its probably his son who is holding the dog for the photo. The old fella, could have cancer or something.
  16. All of Facebook is a scam. It's an intelligence gathering operation.
  17. Best bet is to walk shoreline and river banks at night with the lamp and early morning. I'd say there is good craic to be had with the terriers There are none locally where I live, but they arent too far away. I have the traps set anyways. Kill all mink!
  18. that is a fine dog you have there!! With that much collie, and still having a decent running dog physique, I reckon he should have plenty of staying power for the hares as well. Let us know how he progresses. I really like him
  19. Nice tune, thanks for sharing. I like D&B as well. I usually set my alarm in the morning to a D&B tune. Its better than a cup of hot black coffee to wake you up for work. I like this one at the moment
