  1. Is the white and fawn dog a full greyhound? Nice hounds there.
  2. Took the words right out of my mouth John. Hurling for definite
  3. Nice greyhound bitch Over the next few weeks you will soon learn what is suitable for her, and how much you can trust her. It could take six months before she is fully habilitated to your ways. As regards ferrets, having her muzzled on lead, with the ferrets running around her, and give her a firm No! and tug on the lead, should work. Do this everyday, till the ferret can walk over her toes and she won't even glance. If she is too mad for them, and this method doesn't work, then just keep her away from ferrets, or if totally necessary try something a little harsher, last resort
  4. A few years back, I spent from start of season till the end, three to five days a week, minimum 5 hours a day, and didn't get a single pull. I only saw a few caught, mostly in the Ridgepool (where there easily caught anyways), and just behind the boxes, where most the local lads have it covered all the time. Everywhere else is just a waste of time. I watched more salmon being caught by Otters than I did fishermen! If you want to spend a good days fishing on the Moy, forget the salmon, go out into the estuary and fish for Seatrout, that is where the fun is to he had.
  5. that's the type of JR I like. Best of luck with her
  6. What game was there to hunt on that ground? Was it worth it?
  7. Hi Borderlad, all is yet not lost mate. There are still some very useful greyhounds. It just takes a while to find them, and the same goes for the collies. If you look out on remote farms in Ireland and Wales, there are a few hardy collies still doing the job. But the situation is changing fast! Not long before these small old time farms will be closing up.
  8. Please keep us updated on this pups progress. It sounds like an interesting lurcher mix
  9. thats a fine Goldie Romany A bit off topic sorry, but is the American Goldfinch kept in captivity or for crossbreeding? Surely a beautiful bird
  10. Skycat, its been asked over and over on these forums and there is never an answer.
  11. I have said this on here before; if your serious about crossing a greyhound with a Poodle, then why not instead use one of the working poodle types that are in Europe. There are some very hard working breeds, like the Schafpudel, Pudelpointer, Barbet, Irish Water Spaniel, etc. Why use a shitty inbred KC bred puffball? If you want workers, breed from workers
  12. Stunning looking bitch I hope you have many years of enjoyable mooching together
  13. Well Mack, some lovely well bred pups there. A real credit to you. I wish you all the best with them Talk soon
  14. Very sad news. I remember some of the photos he posted on here, of a real high quality. My prayers are with you CW and Adrian's family. RIP Furdy
  15. That is a handsome looking hound. Lovely May I ask the breeding?
  16. Supposedly 800 rabbits were shot locally last summer by a group of trigger happy hooligans. All rabbits were left where they were shot. I try to make use of everything I catch. Otherwise it is reckless, and mindless killing.
  17. I used to say whippets, but now believe greyhounds have superior intelligence. Greyhounds actually are easy to train, they learn fast and once they cope onto something, it's with them for life. But few people bother to find this out for themselves.
  18. Well John, I share in your sentiments. We certainly live in paradise here in the West of Ireland.
  19. Yes it could be a shot to the neck. I have seen the local rifle lads shooting farm and pet cats. Just another target to them.
  20. Hi everyone, Firstly I must say, Picardy x's are not my cup of tea, but I am interested to hear how they are all doing in the field. It's been a few years since I heard about this lurcher cross being produced, and its about time now, that most people would know the full qualities of their dogs, their capabilities, faults, etc. Photos and stories would be great, thanks
  21. A few pheasants!? thats more than I see here in a whole season. You should get or carry a shotgun with you, and add some more to your gamebag.
