  1. maybe he is a throw back to a heavy collie type? Perhaps try getting yourself between the rabbit and the hedge
  2. Yes, I remember when there were rabbits everywhere. I just took it for granted at the time. Now there isnt a single rabbit for miles! Mixy has a lot to do with it and the farmers want rabbits gone as soon as any arrive. I was told grouse were everywhere as well, but I have only seen a couple in my entire life. Never heard a corncrake either I wonder if a change to mechanised agriculture, slurrying, have anything to do with it.... mink? over hunting?
  3. She is great. good breeding as well keep us updated, thanks
  4. Did she hunt up much when you first got her? What is her recall like now? FH, its good to see another working grey. I think they are deadly when you get a good one. Keep us updated on her next season May I ask what studs she has on her pedigree? Is she about 25 inches and about 58lbs?
  5. hi mate, I am glad to see you out again. I will be out for the magpies with my lurcher now. I already have been working the river banks for mink with my teckel. Nothing better than a bit of pest control to keep you and the lurcher happy during the off-season. keep it up!
  6. exactly even some spaniels are too big and cant face some thick cover, so I have seen
  7. Depends if you are poaching or not (barking). I use a Teckel and he is deadly. He will find anything and has a great voice. Very obedient as well if you put the training into him early as a pup. I have tried a lot of dogs in cover. I recommend a large sized terrier that doesnt go to ground. Sometimes the staffie cross terriers can be silent but deadly. Fox terriers are fairly good as well, and you cant beat a good Jack Russell.
  8. I had noticed that the american lure coursing folk like to use the highly perfected Show bred greyhounds. I dont know why? they literally have destroyed the greyhound. If you ever look back at the pedigree of show bred greyhounds, they are descended only from one or two greyhounds that won some big show back in 1880's. Straight backs, narrow deep chests, and a neck like a giraffe!!
  9. I'm surprised no one has said it yet, so I will; "Feck using a rifle.... my BullX could take that lion!"
  10. Hi Dan, I have a bitch from Crash and she is deadly Just the sort of greyhound that would do well in US. She has a nose like a bloodhound, and can find anything. Plenty of gameness in her as well.
  11. good post CW. That about sums it up....
  12. I think mostly in the East Coast states lamping is illegal. But it may be possible to lamp possums and racoons during the hunting season with a permit.
  13. most "hunters" I know, that arent on the internet, talk even more shite than the hunters do on here! Honestly the amount of crap I hear from them is unbelievable.
  14. Brett Lee is fabulous. His son Crash is superb..... What son of Crash is the next dog in line that is breaking the records, winning, and set to be the next big sire?
  15. This site is just a bit of craic. Dont take it too seriously. If you take the internet seriously then you will be greatly disappointed
  16. So our finance minister seems optimistic that the recession in Ireland will come to an end here later this year. What do ye reckon? I personally think it is going to get worse. There are no jobs, everyone I know is unemployed or part-time work here and there, and we can hardly survive on the dole. Building trade is finished. Big companies are leaving as well. What's left for us now? Is the recession over then?.....
  17. A real gentleman with a real lurcher.

  18. IL, it seems most kids these days, seem to think they know everything, even though they truly dont understand, what they say they know.. I dont know why, but it may be due to the availability of information in the media.
  19. I reckon the less weight the better, so I would go for a small greyhound track bitch.

  21. jackdaws are lovely pets. Those pictures bring back memories of my own I had
  22. Get yourself a pet cage and keep the dog in there with its bed and a blanket over the top, whenever you cannot watch him. Make that cage his bed/den. Give the dog plenty of exercise as well.
  23. when he is old enough, and walking about, take him out to the field and let him snap at some craneflies, he will enjoy himself
  24. alright mate. Let us know how you get on. I fed a mixture of minced chicken, egg, apple and rice. Try to get the fella to feed himself, when he is physically/mentally able, or else your feeding him could retard his developement. Letting him go hungry for a while to get him to feed himself, is a painful experience (on the ears!). Sometimes I felt like strangling the little screecher!
  25. I took in a fallen rook as well. My best advice it put it back exactly where you found it. More than likely the parents are feeding it. Rooks are cranky baxtards, and not as pleasant as a jackdaw. I have had jackdaws and magpies as well. Rooks will wake up the whole house every morning demanding a feeding. It's the most annoying sound on Earth!! Also I found that the rook started getting fat and wasnt developing as it should. Its feathers were terrible as well. The struggle to survive is what makes these animals healthy and thrive. Remember that it is all natural, whether it liv
