One of the best working dogs (and nicest, calmest dogs) I ever met was from the same breeding. In his case it was Taffy x Sally so son to dam. His owner said he'd "knock over rabbits left right and centre while waiting for other stuff." Coincidentally, at the same time, I had one bred the complate opposite i.e. Richard x Linnet so his was 3/4 Sally 1/4 Richard and mine was 1/4 Sally 3/4 Richard...mine wasn't as fast but he was more obedient and completely indestructible.

how about  1/4 wheaten  x 3/4 grey or 1/4 wheaten x 3 /4 lurcher , reckon from good stuff you get good alrounder

I have owned and seen a few 3quarter greyhound lurchers over the years i don't know if its coincidence but the best ones that come to mind was when the greyhound was the sire in the breeding.

had a blue merle 3 quarter bred dog from hancock  late eighties came to me at six month old from a lad who could no longer keep him real handy dog caught rabbits for fun and loved the sharp end of stuff and caught few hares too but to be fair they are not a lot about me knocked over a lot of roe with him too he was deer daft obedient too the only thing with him was he was manic and never really switched off pure work horse you could have worked him 24 hrs a day if he saw you put a coat or jacket on a  he would pace up and down his kennel all day i even had to move the ferret hutches inside the porch as if he seen you get them out he knew what you were up too apart from being manic and on the go all the time he was a likeable big dog and i liked him a lot

My mate has had 2 off him and Luke you said always on the go,the only fault I could pick with them as they were always a 100mph dogs no matter what.1 snapped it’s leg and got pts and the other killed itself running into a wall both were merles to.

funny you should say that the dog i had was the same 100 mile an hour but always 100 percent he was killed  at 7 year old hit a tree chasing his favourite thing bambi

My best ever catch dog was sired by hancock's Taffy. His dam was a very greyhoundy mongrel lurcher. Definitely the fastest lurcher off the mark, and up to about 200 yards, I've ever owned. I suppose not strictly a 3/4 bred, but you'd think his dam was a greyhound, so more or less a 3/4 bred.

I caught loads of hare and deer with him. 

Seen quite a few 3/4 breds from hancocks. Can honestly say I'd be happy to own all of them. Very versatile, efficient working lurchers. All border collie bred.

Don't know what the situation is now with them though. Was it last year they stopped breeding?

Oh yeah, wouldn't own another dog with beardie in though. My old dog's sire was taffy, and though my dog was a great catch dog, the twat did my head in on more days than he didn't. 

Edited to add, just to reiterate, I'm aware that there are people out there than can hack the beardie mentality, but it's just not for me.

I had one off him many years ago. Sire was Stormin Norman a half cross over a greyhound Bitch . Beautiful athletic muscular dog 27 tts. Great feet ,retrieve to hand ,would jump ,ferret , great with stock but would not enetertain Charlie . At 2 years old after I don t know how many attempts we called in a little vixen on the lamp to within about 20 yards away. He pulled into his lead and I let him go. He sprinted up to her slammed the anchors on and bayed like a terrier. I gave him to a chap who worked him on deer and kept him till he retired. Shame really I liked the dog . Saying that I ve seen 1 from Hancock years later that made short work of foxes. Good and bad in everything I suppose

yeh prob ,  lol, any 3/4 running dog 1/4 none sighthound  ,  but prob the pit or the collie be more popular to out x to than the wheaten or gsd, the bel mal be another good out x, these are popular with the army, and police these days, maybe one day somebody might give it a go

A mate has a Hancock bred 3/4 it can catch but won’t carry a not the brightest juk I’ve come across ,yet another mate has a Hancock half x beardie/grey out of there last litter and not being a Hancock’s dogs fan this bitch had well impressed me , but like all dogs from there he said it was hard work as it was scared of its own shadow to begin with (hence Hancock’s dogs ain’t socialised)

My eldest lad had a 3/4 bred, sired by merlin, from hancock. Had one of the best temperaments, and easy going natures of any lurcher I've ever seen. Was easily trained, and was an extremely useful dog. A few of lads off here saw him work. Opened some people's eyes as to what some of these hancock 'jacking' bred lurchers are capable of, if you let them mature a bit before expecting a young sapling to slay all and sundry in it's 1st season's work.
