Unforgiven is my personal favourite.

My Dads favourite that is, westerns are like songs I've always said, its hard picking "one" favourite.

High Plains Drifter for me

De Caprio's recent ,The Reverant, absolutely brilliant ,id love some one to make a film of Blood Meridian by Mcormac mcarthy ,what the wild west must have really been like!

blood meridian, what a fantastic book i think it would be hard to do the book justice in a film

My thoughts exactly, sort of thought Reverant sort of captured the bleakness, and hardships of life back then, you would probably get a triology out of something as epic as Blood Meridian ,its to big for one film.

if they did make a film of blood meridian and a few directors have thought about it ,Stanley Kubrick ,ridley scott ,and the coen brothers did have plans to at one time or another ,they would have to cut so many of the scenes of violence out that it would just not work and Cormack mcarthys descriptive dialogue can not be put in to film in my opinion, I think its a story that needs to be read and not watched, how could you cast a character like judge holden the child raping ,fiddle playing indian scalping ladies man ,marlon brando could of done it maybe ,he,s the picture I had in my head when I read it, a bit like the colonel in appocalyps now but a lot more deviant ,part of me hopes they will one day make it and part of me hopes they don't. but for everyone in to westerns they should definatly read it , its a classic

and the Alamo big john = Davie crocket gets killed in it

Can you name another classic (or two) that The Duke dies in..??

He died in The Shootist. And a war film ,Sands of Iwo Jima or something similar.
