  1. You've only got to wait another 7 weeks pal. Can't you hold on?
  2. Where I live and grew up are a lot of rabbits and you may (or may not) be supprised to hear that EVERY single dog that I have seen in my area will chase rabbits no matter what the breed. All dogs chase rabbits. If you want your dog to chase rabbits then basically all you need is A DOG. If you want your dog to catch rabbits then all you need is A FAST DOG. Yes you increase your chances of having a dog that will literally work 24/7 by choosing a dog from working parents but if it's just a bit of lamping that you wanna do then you'll do well with a good Ped Whippet or Beddy Grey etc (Re
  3. Well in Dave. I wish that I was achieving numbers like that!
  4. Are they well known for being a bit head strong?
  5. Got a mate who is looking at getting a Saluki Greyhound. 2 Questions: 1. What do people think of this mix 2. Does anyone have an experienced/ semi experienced Saluki Greyhound for sale? Needs to live in a kennel (outside), be a proven worker and be fully stock broken Cheers BBB
  6. Horses for courses. They are a rabbiting dog but capable of more. if you stumble across something bigger then dependent on the individual dog you might have some joy. Definately capable of catching Hare but with Fox and anything bigger I'd just use another dog personally. Wouldn't want to put my whippet into to much of a sticky situation personally but I've got my Beddy Grey that can tackle bigger stuff. Love whippets to death but it's good to have something bigger as well
  7. I'm sure there's more to it. I'm going nuts trying to find that study again. They laid out the specific parts of the brain that were encoded to each of the genders contributing to the offspring. I would think that it would take a little investigation to sort out the specific contributions as far as temperament, emotional reactions, etc. In my experience with hounds, if you've got a sire that fights at the tree your going to end up with the same in the offspring. The first line of dogs that I had any extensive experience watching were bad about fighting at the tree on bear. The first fe
  8. Also - always train your pup on its own (one on one). And no harm in working the pup with the older dog enitially but I think that you can come across a few issues; like the pup not retrieving when another dog is there (due to having rabbits snatched from it by older dogs); also - you could find that the pup will get used to the older dog doing all of the work and therefore might 'hold back' when pursuing quarry because it knows that the older dog will catch
  9. , and easier still , put the pup in a cage , until it bit bigger , by then the older dog would know that it staying there lol, and it prob get used to it in 8-9 days anyway , the old dog will put it in its place , and it will stay like that unless the the pup/dog wants to change things when it gets older This is how I would do it too
  10. Hello and welcome. This forum has the odd idiot knocking around (especially in the lurcher forums) but is useful and interesting. The key is to ignor the haters and take notice of the good guys (which there are a lot of). Good luck with your Lurcher pal. Lots of contacts for very good pups on here!!
  11. I use a game sack. Could fit about 15 rabbits in it.. but I don't catch anywhere near that amount on a night out! It works for me
  12. My young dog didn't start to jump until he was 12 months.. he's over 2 years old now and still slowly progressing st his own rate.. I haven't forced it one bit because I actually prefer him going under
  13. Fair play mate.. I didn't get my ped whippet out until he was 9 months old
  14. A mate of mine recently got a lurcher out of none working parents and it works very well. I think that nurture will play a big part in the way that any dog turns out.. Even with Hancock lurchers

  16. Northernlight is your man. He's got what spears to be a very very handy line
  17. I know a lad who got a brindle pup from that line. Sired by Ginge - not seen it work but it's very fast and strong. I was impressed with it but like I say - I've never seen it tested. Just remember this though - all Whippets will work!!
  18. Bit double standards from your previous postWhy? The title to this topic should give you a clue I don't think that my dogs catching the odd summer rabbit while walking the countryside constitutes hunting out of season pal. Some people are ever so funny!
  19. Bit double standards from your previous post Why?
  20. Can you recommend any good ones pal?
  21. I believe you but the one I that was a member of I left because of the lack of respect. No respect for their quarry, no respect for land owners and no respect for their dogs. 'Crazy Lamping Cpursing Crew' I think that it's called. Was added by a mate but I left after less than a year
  22. Fair play mate. Must be some dog!!
  23. I'm going to helping out a Gamekeeper with feeding up and checking Larson traps etc in the evenings after work. Will take my running dogs with me to catch any ground game while I'm at it! Should keep them sharp during the summer!
  24. Them lads on Facebook wind me up like nothing else. I left one group because they are a bunch of scum with no respect!
