Right on the money, My specialist subject. From the onset, I've currently got all next winters black cherry vodka on go Next comes the damsons when I do both vodka and gin. Desertdog. Don't in any way want to be patronising Got a huge allotment and if I say so myself it's pretty much weed free. 2 things. My old man said that if you didn't put it in the ground then there's no point in it being there. It's a weed. Pull it out. He also taught me the idea that if you cover your ground with next years muck (we lived on a farm) it makes weeding so much easier in as much as the buggers have to force there through and therefore are spindly. Absolutely the bollocks. Went down Boston,(North Bank) Lincs, night fising. Had a bag of bleak/bleek for deadbate. We had a hell of a night. Back to Northamton in the morning and cut the things up into about 1 inch sections. I kid you not, each and every one of the things were jumping about in the bath. Gave my good lady a right fright. Anyhow. Back to the subject. Jellied and with black pepper, up to the local The Headlands if anyone reading knows it, and YES proper snap.

Glad you got a good crop pal. I went to mine on Tuesday and had a hatful. (runner beans I'm on about)went again today and filled a basket. It must be true what the old guys say. Pick loads early and you will reap the rewards later. Can't deny it is a hell of a crop.

Well. For what it's worth. Don't muck the ground for parsnips. Not sure why but they reckon it makes the plant split it;s roots and you end up with not a lot. On the plus side with carrots. 2 of my allotment neighbours have sowed in half blue barrels and they have done very well. Learn every year don't we/

No mate. To be honest I didn,t expect any results at all, Earlier on in the year I asked about the carrot fly and how to prevent the little booger. I just did the trench, riddled the soil and hey presto. A first for me. Germination seemed the same as all the other root crops. I say again, first time I've been able to grow parsnip. Result.

Well guys. I k now this topic is a bit stale but I'd like to let you know that all's well. Don't know where to start really. Early spuds very good. Arran Pilot. Bit of scab but otherwise ok.Cabbage. cauli very good and taste good as well Peas. Main line took a bit of a hammering but all in all a good crop. All in the freezer. 2nd crop not so good but again in the freezer. Strange not too much pea moth. Carrots outstanding. For the first time ever I riddled all the soil before seeding to a depth of about 10 inches. Good result. Beetroot very good. Pickling well. Shalllots same. Making a ton of
