  1. I sold my three proper guns before I moved out here. Just got an air rifle and air pistol now, both springers. And this afternoon one of the adult magpies discovered just how accurate the rifle is.
  2. There have been a few magpies about and at least one has gained the knack of feeding off the bird table. I set a pop-up tent out as a hide and whilst waiting for a magpie a crow settled into a tree about 45 yds from the hide. Then all hell broke loose. Thec crow's partner started cawing loudly and performing fly-bys. At least three magpies gathered just out of safe shooting distance and a jay dropped by to see what all the fuss was about. I could have shot the jay, but waited for a better shot at the others that never came. As dusk fell I went out to the crow, lopped the wings off to use the f
  3. Look at City. They have spent billions and gone through how many top managers and they still, after ten years of massive investment haven't achieved the CL success they set out to do. Liverpool broke the mould but now it has been done it will be much harder for other clubs to follow. City and Liverpool have the top 2 places sewn up for the time being. Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal are rebuilding and have good platforms already in place and Spurs now are an unknown quantity, but still have some good players. Then you have Leicester who again have invested and have a good manager and squad plus
  4. His wages would be massive no matter where he goes. Breaking into the top 6 isn't going to be an easy task. The best they can hope for is to settle below that and fight it out with Wolves, Everton, Leicester for a place in Europe. No offence but Poch' deserves better and I think that he will get better offers.
  5. I hope that they get a good manager. But honestly, why would Poch want to start re-building again? He's shown that he can do that despite having the tightest Chairman in the League. Now he could just slide into a successful club like Real or Athletico, Juventus, or even Citeh if Pep gets binned. Then Alli and Kane have new futures.
  6. I can't see Kane and Alli going up north. They will want to move somewhere to have a good chance of winning trophies from the off not start all over again re-building a team from scratch. Same for Poch for that matter. I can't see him taking the Toons job.
  7. They should never have let Rafa leave. A top manager who was prepared to put his reputation on the line and stay with a relegated club should have been kept on.
  8. So where did your 99% of all premier league footballers come from if you didn't make it up?
  9. And they only have a career spanning 10 - 15 years on that money if they are lucky and stay healthy. It is a long time from earning top dollar to getting you old-age pension.
  10. It is easy to be a charitable socialist with some one else's money.
  11. Yes, you are right. The other aspect that none of the press seem to realise is that we are only two months into a game that could go on for years. Who comes out of it best won't be known for a long time yet.
  12. There is only one big club up there and has been for a long time. Middlesborough and Sunderland are just Yo-Yo clubs these days.
  13. Given that the current owner of Sunderland wants out already it will be interesting to see one particular fan's reaction should an Arab businessman or consortium buy it.
  14. There was a program on France24 on TV last night in English about the Swedish situation. Unlike the British press this did not sensationalise everything or try to point the finger of blame. It interviewed four experts, each in a different field what they thought of the Swedish decision not to restrict the population in any way other than advice. What came out was the despite Sweden having one of the lowest overall COVID related death rates, when compared to population in millions it has one of the highest. The man who set up Medecins Sans Froniters (Doctors Without Borders) in Sweden argued th
  15. My friend had a Mitsubishi RV Wagon when he lived in Cyprus. It coost him £2,500 and he loaned to to me when we were over there. Absolutely phenomenal. It looked like the type of car you'd have if you had four kids but under the bonnet it was a full blown EVO, automatic, 4x4 with traction control. You could put it on sand, floor the throttle and it just glided away faster and faster with no wheels pin or drama. But when Stavros pulled alongside at the traffic lights hoping to nip in front of the people carrier when the lights changed it blew him away. It was the big thing amongst the Aussie su
  16. About a third of the way up the top section. Sixth time out fishing and never cast more than a 60g lead. It wasn't cheap either.
  17. When I was in a sea fishing club we used to meet up once a year to have a BBQ and melt down. I knew a bus dismantler and got some long chrome tubular handles that were sawn up into one foot lengths and squashed down at one end. We would fill them 3/4 full with molten lead then once they had cooled squash the other end and drill holes in for the split rings. We made and lost hundreds over the years. But they only cost us the price of two split rings and a big hook so we couldn't complain.
  18. I have the two-piece Korum 1.75lb 12 foot rod that will handle 5oz weights. It is now a three-piece rod after casting a 2 oz weight.
  19. They haven't got Socks on their teams ?
  20. I reckon that it will only fall as a political entity. The trade will continue between EU countries on current terms but with each country being able to set its own arrangements with non-EU trading partners. So the Bulgarians and Romanians will revert to buying Russian tractors and old German cars, lots of countries will revert to importing Japanese and Korean electrical goods and companies like Phillips and Renault cars will go bust because they won't be able to survive without the protection that the EU gives them. I think that the € will be abandoned wholesale and Europe will be a bett
  21. Micron is getting desperate now. The French economy was already going to the wall and this is his last hope of saving his job. There is absolutely no chance of him getting re-elected at present so he's trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat to get some extra funds. p.s. Anyone else noticed that he wears a rug?
  22. Latest news is that restrictions on walking, running and cycling are to be lifted on May 11th. No mention about fishing but I can always cycle to the river ?
  23. Yes, but do the maths Wilf. You need at least two years before you can breed a bitch that you bred from G1 and another stud dog. Then you need to let the pups from G3 to mature so that you can see whether the genes that you want to produce have carried through and there are no unwanted genes. That is at least three and a half years from day one. And then you need another blood line for the next generation which increases the risk. The earliest you could put G3 into stud would be three and a half years so it is nearly 4 years at the earliest to get the G4 pups. And another 2 years and at least
  24. I know what you are saying Wilf, but your second generation pup won't be born until year 3 so given the maturity that you mention it will be four years before you know that the genes of the original pair have been carried through two generations. Of course you could put a bitch into pup at less than 3 years, but it isn't something I would do.
