In a word; Nepotism. The same clowns promote other clowns because they are scared to promote somebody who will show them up for what they are. I never attempted to get promoted so I never tried to climb the slippery pole. My dream job was in the dog section and so I went all out for that.

Ashley bought Newcastle and ran it like he does Sports Direct. He has top brands made more cheaply and knocked out at a low price. Basically devaluing the brand and taking advantage of loyal customers. He knew that the Toons have a large and loyal fan base and he could milk the gate money and money from shirts and the like while ever he could promise better times ahead. The same is happening at other clubs like West Ham and Sunderland. The board are milking the loyal fans and making false promises just to keep them coming through the turnstiles and buying the merchandise. When Rafa left

I was banging my head against a brick wall for years. £ hundreds of millions were wasted on Blunkett's program of Neighbourhood Policing. When we were called into a meeting to be informed of the exciting new measures that were going to take place I stuck my head above the parapet and listed at least 6 reasons why it was ill thought out and would fail. Of course my thoughts were dismissed out of hand. Ten years and £ millions later they have abandoned the scheme for exactly the reasons I outlined at the meeting. But in the early days, even though we could see through the smoke and mirrors, they

Nothing new there mate. Police management is a constant cycle of returning to a position where they moved from a few years before. A continual merry-go-round and they will be using reasons to make the move that were dismissed as nonsense when they first mooted centralising everything. The police are constantly advancing - to the positions they advance from a few years before. £ millions are wasted every year changing buildings and rooms only to be put back again a couple of years later. Just before I retired we had a Ch. Inspector and a Superintendent both pushing for promotion. The Ch.

Seems to be a regular thing these days. About twelve years ago I was fishing off Flamborough Head in a kayak when the Bridlingon Belle came over and one of the crew shouted that there were five or six Orcas at the other side of the head. I thought that h was having me on but it was in the local papers the next day. Then it seemed to become an annual event.

Why is it that everybody including banks, opticians, supermarkets and clothes shops are advertising their websites dedicated to telling us how to survive COVID-19? What the feck is it to do with them?

The Merc' S Class saloons seem to be good value. A lot of quality car for little money.

I can't see how the owner could have put all those advisories right at that price. Possibly a tame MOT tester.

Yes, the Ford V6 was an old iron engine whereas the Rover V8 was alloy and so it was much lighter. They bought the engine from Buick. First time I drove one was delivering a Rover V8S to a guy. I was late and gave the motor some welly on the M1. It touched 130mph on the clock and then I noticed that the oil pressure was half what it should have been. I nearly filled the driver's seat. I stopped at a phone box and spoke to the garage service manger. Turns out the American V8 ran at a much lower oil pressure than normal engines so all was OK. If they had put that lump in the Stag from Day 1 it w

One or two people have pulled alongside our motorhome at traffic lights intending to get to the single carriageway first and failed. That five cylinder turbocharged Merc' leaves the Renaults and Peugeots standing ?

In the olden days Triumph and Rover were the car of the middle classes; doctors, solicitors and the like. The Toledo was a small car for their wives so they could have the Triumph brand, wooden dash and door cappings and thick, comfy seats without the 2 litre engines. I think the Toledo was 1300 and 1500 and replaced the Herald. Then the Dolomite replaced the Toledo and they did that in 1500 and 1850. They brought out a sports version called the Dolomite Sprint with overdrive on third and fourth gears. The Dolomites were lovely cars and second hand great value for money. Once Triumph beca

The Stag was typical of British engineering and car design of the period. Triumph and Rover were arch enemies vying for the same customers. When they merged under the Rover-Triumph and Austin-Rover companies they still maintained their rivalry. When Triumph set about designing the Stag they were influenced by the American market which accounted for the majority of UK sports car sales and the Yanks would only buy V8's. So even though Triumph had a perfectly good straight 6 they needed a V8. Rover had a V8 based on an American Buick engine, but the Triumph designers wouldn't entertain having a R

It's the V8 sound that does it for me. Even the Stag, although it was a shit engine, sounded gorgeous under throttle especially uphill. The plume of white smoke in the mirror wasn't always a welcome sight though. ?

My BIL has one of those. He drives it up an old cart track to his allotment and carries his spade, rake and loads of other rammel in the boot. Then on a Friday night he washes it, cleans out the interior ready for shoot day on Saturday's where he has a gun.

The biggest town around here is Angouleme and every September they have a three day vintage car rally. First day is the concourse, second day, Saturday, is when they all drive around the department, hundreds of them from big Yank police cars to an Isetta Bubble Car. Imagine driving 150 miles in one of them. We usually drive out to the route and have a picnic while watching them all go past. The third day is a street race around the old town. It is as close to the Italian Job as you will ever get. I went with my BIL and a pits ticket doesn't get you within 100 yards of the cars. It gets you int

I used to work for a Rover Triumph dealer. We got the police 2.5PI and the Rover V8S and latterly the SDI 3500 in for service and repair. On a Saturday, when the garage side was closed and just the sales room open I got chance to drive them around the 1/2 acre gravelled car park. Drifting three and a half litre cars sideways round the corners ?

I'm surprised Gansher. I thought that you'd have gone for the saloon version. More room in the boot for the swag. Must have had a few fun rides with the Sweeney's 3 litre Granada on your tail ? I had three Beetles, three MGBs, a Triumph 2000, a Triumph 2500TC and this....... The car I really wanted was a VW Karmann Ghia. Even plod on a push bike could catch one of those but what styling. A poor man's Porche - literally.

If you read the tabloids it seems that the opinions of journalists is more important that scientists or other experts. It is all about one journalist calling another journalist out over their own personal understanding of an issue. Why anybody cares a schit about what Peers Moron thinks is a mystery.

The best advice I can give is to regard large barbel differently to the ones that you have been catching. You won't find the larger barbel swimming with the mid sized fish. But they will be in the same river, maybe in the same area. Just not in the same swim. The Wharfe is a lovely river and I have had plenty of doubles out of the Boston Spa / Collingham areas. But I didn't catch between 4 and 11 per session. Lucky to get 2 because the bigger fish are more solitary and are found in deeper channels, close to tree roots or between weed beds, not out in mid river with the 5lb - 7lb fish. Look

I think that BGD may have been taken in for re-programming, After all, that old, shabby, work-shy hippy come peace protester has now been replaced by a shiny new Sir Barrister model complete with KCB PC QC. Just an ordinary working man ?

The shoot I used to be on neighboured a large country park. About ten years ago there was some sort of study carried out for the Countryside Stewardship scheme. They found a greater diversity of wildlife on our shoot than in the country park. Trapping and shooting vermin works better for nature as a whole.
