The group monitoring fishing vessels dispute this claiming that it is not a rare occurance. Which is why they were out there recording the incident.

Floating carpet of dead fish highlights France’s ‘lax’ attitude to overfishing WWW.FRANCE24.COM Some 100,000 dead fish were thrown back into the sea off the French coast on Thursday by one of the world's largest fishing vessels. While the crew dismissed it as a... How the Hell can they justify that? Politics aside, there must be some way that excess quotas can be landed for a reduced price or a percentage reduction of their quota and used for pet food or fertilizer or something useful!

An old mate gave me his 440A Match about 12 or so years ago. He bought it new in the 70's and hardly used it. I use it mostly for waggler fishing for roach and bream. This was taken on a day out on a tidal canal. Brilliant reels.

I bought an ABU 506 with the money from my paper round and Saturday job. It is well used so the new one can replace it. The Mitchell is the same model used by Richard Walker to land the record carp in 1953. I have quite a few old Mitchells including another half-bail from a couple of years after this one. The area where Mitchells were made was traditionally a watch and clock making centre. There are around 6 or 7 other reel making companies from the same or nearby towns, some of them better than Mitchell in some respects. I have three of these in various models. They are as smooth

Back in November I took a punt on some reels at an auction. I only had crappy photos to go on, but the Mitchell caught my eye. To save postage and customs charges they went to a friend's in Lincolnshire and from there to a customer's in Cleveland. They have smuggled them over along with some Flatpack mole traps. Given that the ABU is over 50 years old and the Mitchell around 70 years old I'm chuffed to bits with them.

Just remember that bloodhounds work ourely on ground scent. The disturbed grass, soil, etc of the footprints. Dogs like spaniels air scent. They pick up particles of scent carried in the air and those that have fallen to the ground along the track. Dogs like GSDs can do both and some favour ground scent, others air scent. If you cross two types you don't know what type of tracking dog you will get.

€5 including a battery travel alarm from the charity shop.

Is that the sum total of the Spurs trophy cabinet?

No. It suggests that she made a cry for help not realising that once her story became public it would become a police matter. Not many people realise that now it doesn't need someone to approach the police and make an official complaint. It can be investigated if someone else reports it on their behalf even if they don't know about it or want to pursue the complaint. Or if the police are are made aware of it by other means as in this case. Whatever you think, she is the primary victim. Naive yes, but still the victim.

HMP are going to have a cracking football team with Greenwood, Mendy and Sigurdsson being transferred in this year.

You are a loss to the social services ?

More like when they spoke to the victim she made other allegations. Questions like: Has he done anything like this before? Lead to further offences coming to light.

That isn't the case these days. The laws regarding rape are complicated and not always easy to understand. There are some elements of the legislation that have been amended as a result of pressure from groups campaigning on single issues that arose in high profile cases. As such parts of the legislation are unbalanced. If there is any evidence that this offence took place then the police and CPS can bring a prosecution even if the victim does not co-operate. This is to stop the large numbers of abandoned prosecutions when the victim is intimidated into dropping the allegations. That caus

I fished a sretch just downstream from Ripon many years ago. Day tickets were from the gun shop in the market square but it doesn't look like they are still in business. There are some good stretches at Boston Spa about 20 miles away.

There are one or two niches where old tackle can be worth more. Fibreglass rods with famous names from back in the 50's to 70's Richard Walker, Fred J Taylor, Peter Wheat and others will be sought after. But most fibreglass rods, especially coarse rods, are almost worthless. Split cane rods will always sell if in good condition and reels from Mitchell, Alcocks, Youngs, ABU and some others could attract good prices. Also, many centrepin reels fetch good money whilst others go for nothing. You have to research everything as it is all too easy to under or over price items of tackle.

I think that any mole trapper setting out has to take anything initially. Then it is possible to hive off what you don't like and concentrate on what is best for your own situation. I regard my job as a paid hobby, but if I had taken on every enquiry I have declined over the last two years it could have been a full time 40 hours a week job. If someone set up properly out here and took on farms, communal areas; parks and playing fields, gardens and rodent jobs they could make a killing. Far too much work for what I am prepared to do.
-
The problem I had is that I could only set around 100 traps a day and anything extra meant putting in extra time. I could roll traps over to other areas if I was confident that they had done their job, but that meant the job running over the time I had allocated to it. I am not geared up to farm work and don't really enjoy it. Once I have new garden jobs fettled I can pull up, check the garden and any permanent trap sites and be off to the next call in 10 minutes unless I get offered a cuppa. If there are any new molehills I can usually sort it with two or three traps. Some of them haven

I don't. I used to do three small farms, about 100 traps maximum, in and amongst my usual garden jobs. But it was too much hassle. Farmers asking for quotes for specific areas then when I turned up to do the job asking: "While you're here could you have a look at........" Or they would make the call in March or April after I had made it clear I would only do the clearances in December and January when the stock was indoors, the grass wasn't growing and my garden jobs were quiet. So now I don't do any farm work or equine jobs. Just gardens on a regular fortnightly visits basis. I work 3 da

A true legend of British comedy. He worked and wrote jokes for most of the greats. In the Radio show I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue he was hilarious week in and week out. RIP

I've never owned that many traps. Not even including the ones I've lost ?

Those old seat boxes can fetch sixty quid in good condition. If the buckles can be polished out it might be worth doing. There are people who collect vintage tackle, but usually these sort of collections often contain run of the mill stuff that isn't desirable. Only a few fibreglass rods are worth more than a fiver. I admire what you are doing.
-
From a buyer's point of view buying job lots can be the cheapest way to go. But as regards getting the best price for this lady I would suggest sorting out any good stuff and listing them individually. That canvas seat box looks in good nick and could fetch a tidy price from a collector.

When I did farm work I used a fishing trolley that had been modified to make the wheelbase wider. It was harder work getting on and off the farmer's quad than pulling the trolley. I would take thirty tunnel traps, ten Talpex and thirty Putanges along with the markers and covers in two 60l plastic containers.

A few years ago I went to a vintage car street race. One of the races involved 11 race prepared Porches piloted by Nigels and a duck egg blue Mk.1 Escort repmobile that absolutely trounced them. It was a Lotus engined jobby. And yes, the specialist sports car makers dipped into larger firms parts bins to save money. Even the Jag XJS had the same indicator stalks as an Allegro.

This is one of the facts of modern life. I suppose it happened to a lesser extent with the Austin / Morris / Riley / Wolsley cars of old,but when I was looking for a SUV 4X4 I found that many were almost identical to other makes. There is a lot less choice of models than you think.
