Same here matie..but, I did see a lovely example in the `s when I jugded a lurcher show in Anncrum in Scotland..wasnt so much the colour though, the dog was so well put together and I had to put it best in show,, sometimes you have to look past the colour, but I certainly wouldnt have one

Yip agree.. deer jumping up in front of you in this way in woods are usually one in the bag..and we have all done that, and I would be so disappointed if any of my dogs missed a chance like that.. But chase a roe and it jumping into Harwood or Kielder Forrest or some of the big woods where I live, and that will be the last you see of that white arse again.. Seen them jump into a strip would with the dog following, and out the other side and the dog getting it in the next open field..but again, everyone who had a deer hunting head on (Pre ban) will have seen similar. Roe are no great challe

Hi Bill I bought this lens on a whim and discovered I could get more of a reach with my 300m & 1.4TC be lucky if I've taken 200 shots with it, still in case. Lol I bought mine second hand, had it for 3-4 years, and sold it on ebay for more than I paid for it..this is the thing with good glass, they hold their price fairly well, something that Sigma and Tamron lenses will never do

to be honest roe deer are easy pickings for a good deer dog! course may go on for a little while but if the dogs been slipped -90 % dead!! Have to agree with you there matie.. Roe are pretty fast on a straight run, but once the dog starts turning them, 9 times out of 10 they were yours..if they get into a wood they are gone, have only ever seen one taken once in a wood.

I use Canon, but I do think Nikon are better. But I've got too much £ worth of gear to change....maybe one day I might. The lens will be far too slow, for taking any decent image on anything other than the brightest of bright days. There will be too much blur that you'll struggle to shake off as you will not have the reserve to crank up the speed. In order to advise on lenses, i need to know what you will be photographing. Photographing both Foxes and Birdlife. same sort of thing i want to get some decent images of . good luck fella. . Hello Hjckcff, first of all my p

We used these too, made them up for a lot of lads when I was a fitter for the local bus company, Lucas square eights..we use to smash the glass out and it made the beam even better, they had a black metal cover over the bulb which used to get bloody hot.. an oldish show pic..a mottly crew..

Not had one of these lenses,,got a 50mm 1.8 and I just got that this year If I want a close up I just use my 300mm..ha ha http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/35mm-f18.htm They are just over £100 new. Aye, all the best, look forward to seeing some of your images Taken with the 300mm f4, with 1.4 tc fitted

Go for the Nikon 300mm f4 matie, one of the sharpest lenses on the market, add a 1.4 teleconverter and it will still be sharper and faster than the Tamron or Sigma above, And, it will last 10 years plus, and, you can knock nails in with it..A grand new, but second hand they have come down in price since Nikon brought out the 300mm f4 with VR......Lesst han £500..around the same price as a Handcock collie creyhound :-) but will still work if you shout at it..

These are slow lenses..soft all the way through, not well built..
