  5. Aye it was good to be part of..both organised and private meeting.. Not sure what year, this was taken before digital so was early 90`s, its a film image, scanned in...it was the Border meeting in Scotland on the Lmmermuirs, it was a 32 dog stake so not sure without trolling through what the results were.. You used to get fined £5 for loose dogs, I had to pay £20 at one meeting for (accidently) slipping my dogs off walking over the hills so I could get another course, ha ha..

  11. No whippet matie Put collie cross in, kept the smallest or one of the smallest bitches each generation, lurchers to lurcher crosses focussing on using the best around where I lived at the time, dogs what I believed would suit and click with my bitches best, and used some dogs related to mine After 6-7 generations my bitches were levelling out 23-24 inches weighing about 40-45lbs Dogs, these were not as consistent and ranged from 24-28 I focussed on bitches, and we did the same with our deerhounds so both were considered to be good bitch lines
  12. Aye gets some pics up matie.. Some of the main physical differences about Doxhope first crosses when comapred to others of the time, was that they were smaller, stronger, lighter and nimbler. What happens after the first cross is dictated by how the dog is then bred, putting it to a greyhound, or other dogs with deerhound or larger breeds in them will in most cases knock that size back up..thats fine if you like big dogs. These are deerhound crosses, so work has to be done if size is to be kept at a sensible level, or brought down further..Ive never been a lover of big lurchers or first cro
  13. Its not just with dogs, its the same with any stock, the importance of selection of the females, and no kennel is stronger than its bitches.
  14. They are full deerhound pups,,as are these; Even at this age, where you can look at their feet, AHHHH I still dream about Doxhope deerhounds feet. These are first crossers, between 1990 and 2006 there were only 5 litters of first crossers actually bred at Doxhope kennels, Alan is a great guy, great slipper knew his dogs he had a good running deerhound bitch Corrie There was another good lad Chris Gilcrest from Cumbria who used to go to the deerhound coursing, and fox mad with his deerhound crosses
