  1. Must admit Ive gone the last 4 years with only one lens, a 300mm, but over the last year Ive added to my collection a 50mm..both Nikon lenses. The 70-300mm as mentioned above is a good lens for what you say you are after, Ive used one in the past, and you can get Nikon ones off ebay for less than £100 (without VR)
  2. Ive got two others coming out next year matie, a lurcher book, and a ratting book..the reprint is third on my list. You know I will see you ok on a copy..when they come out, call in before you buy one, kettles always on in Doks hoose
  3. He couldnt PM me matie, he was blocked..ha ha ha If you dont get one off your missus, I will sort one out for you when you come up ratting.. Im doing a reprint, in hardback with a few extra chapters and lots more photos..
  4. I think we have all seen odd colours, Ive had many blacks, some fawns from the Scottish border area, we used to longnet an area near Powburn in Northumberland in the early 70`s, and we used to get pied coloured rabbits, some almost half and half, and even a black, white and tan couloured rabbit from there one year
  5. Never had a collie cross, and not many people worked them where I live, but thats a nice looking dog..
  6. Thats exactly my first action upon finding someone like that, rob them! oh well i believe in karma ,your obviously not so sensitive? I did totally make it up you know....ha ha ha and has no link to anyone living or dead, or any events past or present Meanwhile back at the thread..no, not found anything of interest in the countryside
  7. We found a car ticking over, and a pipe from the exhaust going into the car..had a look in and the guy inside looked well and truely f****d..we had a look in the boot and there was loads of camera gear, so we started to get it and walked back to our parked vehicle and put it in..we had a look through the glove box and got the guys CD`s and sat nav..my mate searched the guy and got his wallet, and took his wedding ring..then he started to grunt..so we hauld him out the car and got him into the fresh air..I ran back to our vehicle and had to bring all the bloody gear back and put it back in the
  8. Just through interest what are/were the first crosses too big for? Thats a cracking question matie..One that I certainly dont have an answer for.
  9. I used to run a first cross he was out of Thorn the same sire as Axel, he was a black dog with a bit of white on toes, tip of tail, and chest i think, but the bitch out of Axel and the first cross bitch was equally black and white, Omanyra says this is to do with the genes, and only happens when you put deer x grey back to deer x grey When you are breeding first cross deerhound x greyhound, as with any F1 you lock away the recesive genes, but, they will manisfest in the second generation, whether you put the dog to another first cross, or any other dog/cross. The dominant colour in deer
  10. The dog on the right is the sire to Axel..
  11. Nuttal from Clitheroe, yes the terrier man, bred them using Enterkine deerhounds, a really good kennel that produced some cracking working deerhounds..I think There was a guy in the Burnley area too, that bred some good stuff years ago Merlin, a first cross..
  12. Ive got a few images of some of Alans dogs, I will check with him and see if its ok to put them on here.. Ive only ever worked two first cross deerhound x greyhounds and they both slew (if there is such a word) fox, as did every pure deerhound that I owned and ran..but as Jigsaw, foxes were never my kink, but if they came in the beam, we killed them..No they are not specialist fox dogs, but dogs that are still left from any working lines should do fox if brought up to them in the right way, as you would a lurcher the modern deerhounds might, if encouraged, rip a rossestte up from time to
  13. I must admit I love the look of some rough coated lurchers, deerhound crosses and Beddy crosses, but, the two best dogs Ive owned were smooth coated
  14. Always liked Beddy crosses, seen a few on, but never had one myself..nice fit looking dogs matie
  15. Calm down dear, its only a commercial.:-)
  16. On ocaision Ive tried similar in the past, and as much of my lamping took place 1am onwards the dogs performance wasnt effected..
